Do you have any companions in your party yet? Or are you playing with just the character you made?

No. The tactics system is an efficient way to set up performance scripts for party member you don't want to micromanage. And it is easy to use.
Yeah but how, all I keep hearing and reading is what you just said.......and it's a lie there is no way to do any of that Not one pperson on this entire site has given any proof at all that this is even a usable menu.
All i see is an ingame list of what is there....thats it....I see no instructions on how to get the infromation on that list applied to any party member and the execution of it.
Every single person in here has epily failed to explain that.
That is only because you are unable to understand even the very simplest explaination, many people have tried. It's like explaining colour to a blind man trying to explain the simple concept behind this menu to you.
By the way have you progressed as far as having more than one character in your party yet, if not that's why you don't see the point in tactics.
Anyway ignore tactics they are beyond your ability to understand however it's explained to you. You can finish the game with out having to master this system....

I am done being polite.
You never were to begin with
everyone who didn't bother trying to help can go screw.
Plenty of people tried to help, to no avail
YOu treat me rudely, insult me, call me troll when i'm having legit problems, then have the balls to tell me I should be polite..
You treat people rudely, insult them, then tell them to be polite...
what a bunch of winners.
Touche
most of you replying don't be rude have no concept of how I have been treated.
Well the other 8 threads you have started on this subject certainly didn't start off any nicer
I have every right to talk like this and if people wanted me to be polite maybe people should have thought about that before trolling my topic with BS instead of helping me.
You do have every right to talk like this, I agree. Understand, however, that in return these people have every right to talk right back to you the same way
(I can't believe I am biting on this again).
Seriously, dude, I treid helping in a thread you started earlier tonight, I really did. That thread was just as rude and obnoxious as this one. At first I figured maybe if we helped you would figure it out and love the game as much as (most) of the rest of us. It didn't work.
So, I sat back and watched the fireworks, and it was entertaining for a while. If you are trolling (even though you claim not to be) then bravo, sir. If not, then I honestly don't know what to tell you. People have explained this to you over and over, and you just don't seem to get it. I will try one last time:
The tactics menu is a place for you to set up how the Artificial Intelligence (from here on referred to as AI) of the characters you are NOT CURRENTLY CONTROLLING reacts to certain situations. What this implies is that once you set it up, it will automatically perform the action you tell it to perform when you have told it to AUTOMATICALLY (redundancy purposeful).
For instance, you want your mage to heal your tank when he gets below 70% HP. You choose "Ally" in the left menu (or box, or dropdown, or whatever makes sense to you) in your mage's Tactics menu (in other workds, click on your mage's portrait, and open the tactics menu... this is you mage's tactics menu, and you know that your mage is selected 1) because you selected him, and 2) because his name is in the top left corner). In the next box you select "health", and in the next box you select "less than 70%". because this is when you want your tank to be healed.
On the right side is the action to be performed... use the dropdown menu to select the healing spell you want cast on the tank to heal him.
Now, back in the battle you concentrate on your tank, and using his Uber special awesome warrior beat stuff up moves, and when he gets down to 70% health your mage will heal him AUTOMATICALLY, and you don't have to worry about it.
That is the basics of the tactics menu. If you can't figure it out now, I can't help you anymore. And if you continue to be rude and obnoxious I am probably going to lose my already thinning patience, and make you feel really bad about yourself (something I don't like doing behind the internet curtain).
Again, if you are a troll, then congratulations on sucking me in again. If not, well, "A Mubari hound has at least as much intelligence as a tax collector"... maybe you don't.

I think I understand your problem, BeyondConfused. Just a hunch.

Please be this.
I will laugh so hard if it is.

1 - This is the button that you use to get to the tactics menu
2 - This button is how you switch between tactics for different characters
3 - This is your "if" statement -- If this situation happens
4 - THis is your "then" statement -- then do this action
I suggest that you look at it, play around with it. We all have to play around with this system to understand it well.
Basicly, you're telling the computer to do actions when conditions are met.
Here is the action for the example in the picture.
"self: being attacked by melee attack" (number 2) ---> "Dirty Fighting" (Number 3)
What this tells the computer to do when you do not have the character selected is... When this character is attacked by a melee attack then he/she will automaticly start attacking, starting with the ability "Dirty Fighting"
Please, someone tell me if that made sense or not.

Someone better explain How you acuallu set up the tactic menu
I open the tactic menu.....now what
See about 10 explainations you have already been given or try this link http://dragonage.gul....de/doku.php/ai. Whic someone already posted.
And why had someone Better explain it, what are you going to actually do if they don't.
If you have only one character in your party by the way Tactics effectivley do nothing because you are always controlling that character.

Not really could you rephrase everything into words of one syllable or less for me.

I tried that. I just wrote "how does the tactics menu work?" into Google. The sixth result down gave me this which isn't bad, but doesn't help the OP.
We still need to know if the OP has actually recruited any companions yet. It's a bit fundamental.

I’ve tears of laughter reading them. Seriously, people, read all of his threads.
His thread, The Lucky Stone is in a league of its own. No words can describe it.
I’m getting a cup of tea and am looking forward to reading the rest of this guys treads.
Then depending on how lazy I’m feeling, I may have to create a poll asking which of his treads is the funniest (The Lucky Stone for me, so far. I want to read it again, it’s that funny)
Suppose he’s gonna call me a wanker now.

Use of grammar is not bad, but spelling is way off despite spell checker being available.
They have managed to set up a bioware profile with a picture, which requires basic computer literacy.
They are called Beyondconfused.
Odd what floats peoples boats on the interbob.

I am beyond pissed off
I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE CLOWNS IN HERE TROLLING IN MY TOPICS LEAVING REPLIES SAYING I AM TROLLING.
EITHER SOMEONE IS GOING TO EXPLAIN ALL THIS OR I AM GETTING MY MONEY BACK FOR THIS RETARDED UNPLAYABLE USELESS GAME
THE TACTICS SCREEN IS 100% USELESS there is nothing at all in the manual about what all these menus are used for
THERE ARE NO ATTACKS THAT CAN BE SET IN IT AT ALL ONLY HEALING MENUS ARE THERE, BUT IT'S STILL DOESNT' EXPLAIN HOW TO SET THOSE OR WHO TO SET THEM TO OR HOW TO USE THEM.
HOW TO SET IT UP
WHAT ANYTHING IN THE TACTICS MENU EVEN MEANS
HOW TO EXECUTE IT
HOW IT WORKS
HOW TO KNOW WHAT FRIGGING CHARACTER YOU ARE USING IT ON.
NOTHING
THIS IS BEYOOND LUDICROUS
WTF
ALL I HEAR AND READHOW THIS GAME IS SO GREAT ITS GOOD IT"S EPIC
HOW IS IT ALL THIS STUFF IF THE SCREENS AND MENUS CANNOT EVER BE USED
I BETTER BE GETTING AN EXPLAINATION ON ALL OF THE TACTICS MENU AND EVERY OPTION IN IT, HOW IT'S USED, HOW YOU SET IT UP AND WHY OR I WANT MY MONEY BACK
BIOWARE CANNOT MAKE GAMES SO THEY CAN BE PLAYED
This is what happens when you leave a child in the public school system.
My condolences to your (probably very disappointed) parents.

Just cause the game is too hard for you at first, you want to get your money back. That a bit of a defeatist attitude. Have you ever actually won at anything in your life? STFU and grow a pair ya freakin sissy. Games are supposed to be hard. And noone else is complaining about the interface so you must seriously suck.
