So I've never not cured the genophage, because I'd hate to kill off Mordin or Wrex.

But now that I'm going through another playthrough, I've always wondered; how does Shepard explain to the krogan that the genophage isn't cured? Wouldn't they realize that they're still infected once they started bumping uglies, and then refuse to help until the genophage is actually cured?

I think it's only Wrex that later on knows what Shepard has done (haven't played that yet).

I tried it with Wreav and he is apparently too stupid to realise what's going on.

The salarian Councilor writes an e-mail afterwards for this scenario and how they plan to explain it:

Be warned though, Commander. When this conflict with the Reapers has passed, the krogan will eventually realize something is wrong and may seek explanations. When that day comes, our scientists will supply you with fabricated evidence to prove the cure was flawed from the beginning and had no chance of success.

Here is Garrus's dialogue if you sabotage the cure with Wreav and convince Mordin to go work on the Crucible rather than go through with the cure.

Not my Shepard's problem. She took a flying leap off a tall building.

If Wreav is at the head of Clan Urdnot, he can't understand if you've cured the genophage or not.
And if Eve dies you can convince Mordin that Wreav is too stupid and hateful for a cure and that he will seek revenge. You don't have to kill Mordin.

How Biovare even manages to come up with story based on Krogan revenge with Wreav in charge is beyond my understanding of logic and story-telling. Krogans are demilitarized, and there is possibly nothing they can do once they're on Tuchanka. Based on the slides, Wreav and the other krogans do reach Tuchanka again. >_>

If a Shepard chose Control, the Krogans are fudged...

So, how do you actually fake the cure? I remember the dialogue to tell them when you're on Tuchanka, and I didn't pick that because I'd planned on curing the genophage. And then there's dialogue to distract Mordin so he doesn't go into the Shroud. Do I just choose that and later convince him to work on the Crucible?

In my current playthrough Wrex is going to die and I'm not going to cure the genophage, but I want to make sure I get the highest EMS possible from those decisions.

Actually the Salarians sabotaged the shroud so the cure would fail, and "sabotaging" the cure is simply making sure Mordin doesn't repair this original sabotage. Spoiler for....spoilers but you won't be able to do what you're trying to do in your playthrough if you have Wrex in ME2 and 3.

To make sure Mordin survives sabotaging the genophage:

1) Do not recruit Wrex in ME1, or kill him on Virmire.

2) Destroy Maelon's research date in ME2, or don't do Mordin's loyalty mission (this results in the data not being mentioned).

3) Do no reveal the sabotage.

4) When you get to the Shroud, tell Mordin about the sabotage, then use a persuade option to tell him not to go through with the cure.

You get the Urdnot assets whether you have Wrex or Wreav. Wrex brings an extra 75 points to the table by bringing in Krogan mercenaries. Also, by having Eve die you lose 50 war assets. On the other hand, the extra Salarian fleet is worth 150 war assets, and Mordin is worth 25.

It's been a long time since I sabotaged with Wrex but I'm fairly certain that you lose all 300 of Clan Urdnot's assets after he discovers the sabotage pre-Thessia. Eve is the one who brings the Krogan Clans asset (also worth 300), and if she dies or you don't do Tuchanka: Bomb you don't get them.

Could be mistaken.

Just to add. If you don't have enough reputation, there is no way to have Mordin live regardless if eve is dead and Wreav is in charge. This happen to me in a ME3 default playthrough

Lol, 'cause reputation makes more sense than just regularly role-playing. Shepard needs points to say meaningful things to influence certain story decisions. Such a drawback. Sometimes, I don't even think Renegade or Paragon matter at all and are simply there for attitude determination.

You had Wreave in your playthrough so you won't lose anything by sabotaging the genophage, but if you had Wrex than you would lose his and Clan Urdnots war assets after you kill him on the Citadel post-Rannoch.

Actually reputation does make a lot of sense. I'd of preferred it be called persuasiveness maybe. But in reality a persons reputation has a huge impact on how people take their words. And building your reputation is role-playing. Now just having a big rep bar isn't a great implementation which is partly why I'd prefer it be called persuasion or something. If your rep is for being a liar and a manipulative jerk people react differently to you than if your rep is that of being a straight shooter.
