Loved having the space hamster around, and the fish made the room look rather pretty so yeah I'd be down with getting another pet for ME:A, especially a varren they're adorable in a vicious kind of way. Though I think I'd be happy with just about any kind of space pet.

Given how Scale Itch is transfered, It only adds more things to explain.

They would need some kind of biosphere to produce food from the Milky Way, as there's every chance that any plants animals in the andromeda galaxy are incompatible biologically as a food source. Varren are tough and a source of meat so would be a good animal to take with them.

The same would be just as true of any planet in the Milky Way that isn't a particular species' homeworld.
