This... this is like magic. You herded the Halla on foot?

*checks for pointy ears*

I always herd the halla on foot. It's a bit of a PITA, but it helps me keep far enough away to avoid spooking it. I start out down by Var Bellanaris (curse you, elven language, you know the place I mean) and circle around to come at the halla from the riverbank, kinda from the west-southwest. She'll run east-northeast. As soon as you see her hesitate, circle around northward. She'll run due east a bit. Circle north a little more and she'll run southeast, straight into the Dalish camp.

It doesn't work *every* time, but it works four times in five.

This one is, for me a real PITA.  It's easier mounted, but use the run feature judiciously.

The goal is to herd it.  You're not running it down, or scaring it.  If beasties attack, it's got some HP, but best to just dismount and deal with them.  Even better to reload and travel somewhere else, if you saved before starting.  If it gets spooked, it runs up the first darn rock it finds and gets stuck.  Argh.

It does run off and do stupid stuff if it's panicked, so follow it and try to put yourself between it and areas you don't want it to go.

It needs to make several mistakes before it goes in the right direction. It probably has a different AI from the rest of the other non-hostile animals that roam around. If it didn't, it would take hours to try and get it to the right place.

I think it's pretty random. The first time I killed it before I realized that it was tied to a quest. Second time the quest completed on its own because apparently the halla had ran that way on its own or I made it run without paying attention. Every since then I have had to run around the area a few times as I try to steer it in the right direction. It's a very frustrating quest to say the least.

I accidentally herded the halla back to the Dalish camp right after i decided it wasn't worth the effort and got ready to leave.

So I gave up and just rode off, but it turned out that as I was leaving, I found the camp and got the message of Mission Complete. I was like, what? How? Therefore I can't provide any advice on herding hallas.

I did this while riding my velociraptor.

I've never had trouble with the halla. First off, kill any wandering wolves between the halla and the camp. It won't follow you so you have to herd it. Get on your mount and carefully approach it (from the opposite direction of the camp). It should begin moving towards the camp. If you get too close it may spring into a random direction.

Edit: You don't even need this quest for the Dalish favor quest.

Yeah i've only ever taken it on once just chased him around and eventually got it t othe camp and to fight of the odd Venatori or Freeman character but it wasn't that hard to do.

Gordon isn't really a free man. He is bound to another franchise for the rest of his half-life.
