Yea but doing that in universe that already has asari would just look kinda funny.

Yeah, i don't think it would be necessary at all.  We already have a mono-gendered species.  And on a practical level, we only see the males from most of the species.

But it could be done.  I'm not arguing in favor of the idea; just against those who say that it can't happen from a biological perspective.

That being said, I do like the idea of an all-male species of sexy space strippers who can reproduce with everyone.  I mean, why not?

This thread... aargh.

Male and female have no meaning in monogendered species. All-male or All-female species don't exist.

Depends on your perspective.  From within, they would have no concept of gender since they are all one gender.  From outside, they are female.  The in-game codex calls them all-female.  They have female reproductive organs and secondary sex characteristics.  They are female.  Which works with "mono-gendered" since they aren't "a-gendered".  Two different concepts.  They have one ("mono") gender and that is female.

Clearly nobody, since even the chitinous exoskeletoned and possibly avian turian females have them or at least stuff their clothing to appear like they do  .

I'd not be surprised if the female hanar ended up having them.

They do not have secondary sex charateristics. Again, this only matters when there's another sex to compare with. All Asari have breasts. If anything, the breasts are a characteristic of the Asari, not of their sex (which, again, they don't have).

Breasts are a secondary sex charateristic in humans because men DON'T have breasts.

In game description doesn't really count, as it's clearly written by someone who has no idea what he/she was talking about. Example:
'They can reproduce with any species', which sounds absolutely fabulous and very mystical, but this isn't what happens. The 'father' adds nothing, the Asari reproduces with itself. It's just asexual reproduction. But that sounds really boring.

So they look female.  Biologically behave female.  Are called female in-game.  And are mono-gendered (distinctly not agendered), meaning that have a gender.

But they arent' female.......  Okay.  Whatever.

They look female to humans.

Monogendered isn't even a thing. It's a made up word by Bioware.

Seriously. Google it. It's all Mass Effect, all Asari.

Right.  And they've stated in game that asari are female.  So if it's a concept that they created and they've stated in-game that they are female, what exactly are you debating?

There should be an all male race like the asari, but instead of a bunch of hairy slobs they can be shredded and aesthetically pleasing. This could attract more female gamers.

I fully approve. Make one an LI.  :D

Oh man...

I'm debating that awful codex entry, apparantly. It was written by someone with no clue about biology, or was purposely written as such to make the Asari look like exotic space females.... which they have succeeded in very well.

Gender is a social construct. Monogendered is a meaningless term in biology. The correct term is asexual.

The Asari are asexually reproducing species that have acquired the ability to shuffle their own DNA upon reproduction, which is the only really peculiar thing about them, as most asexual species (all, as far as I know) clone themselves. But genetic recombination is nothing special. Humans do it, among countless other species.

I understand the biology behind it.  My argument is that they are called an all-female species.  Again, the whiptails are an all-female species.  They exist in nature, so there is no biological reason why a species can't be all-female.

I agree that they are really just created to be a sexy race of blue alien stripper ladies.  But they are female

Sorry, but you are wrong here.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but words have meaning. The prefix mono always means one or single. I used monorail as an example earlier. Here are a couple others: Monogamous (one sexual partner), monolingual (speaks only a single language), monoski (a type of snowboard in the form of a single wide ski), ect.

Monogendered means one gender.

The codex isn't at odds with the rest of the game when it describes the Asari as being female, because the word monogendered doesn't mean genderless.

The Asari are not asexual.  They do require a partner to reproduce.

"Although they have one gender, they are not asexual and do in fact require a partner to reproduce." http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Asari

It's melding one of the genes that gives the offspring the characteristics of the other parent. At least that's the sense I've been able to make of it.

He heeee let's not forget about theory that protheans made asari mono-gendered, when they modified them to become superior race.  :D

Ah whiptails.

All female. In absence of males, which sounds like a semantic copout, but it means that there used to be males. (and part of their dying out might be the fact that females don't need them to reproduce :P) Exemplified very well by remnant behaviours like female on female pseudocopulation.

I will gladly admit that I totally overlooked the option that there might have been male Asari in the past though...

The Asari should have been called monosex (single sex) instead. I covered that in an earlier post.

But its fairly clear what was meant by monogendered.

I love the Asari, as I often say.  But they make no sense and are an embarrassment, honestly.  A total nerds wet-dream.

There's no reason the Asari would have evolved that way.  No reason they'd have sex organs in the "human sense" and even if they had a "vagina" for giving birth there's no reason they'd get any pleasure out of "traditional" sex and also no way they'd be able to get pregnant in the "traditional" way.

Frankly thinking about their biology for more than 1/2 a second hurts the brain of anyone with any intelligence.

BioWare should have said the Protheans did more than "guide" them...but altered their evolution to look as they are or something because..Protheans are perverts.

Otherwise the Asari make no sense.  And saying "but they're alien" doesn't cut it.  An all-male race would be even worse.  We don't need anymore sex species.

BW also provided evidence they have the same vulva anatomy as Human females as well, which is strange considering some of that anatomy we share with males (although reduced in size and function). I always thought the azure was a simple passage for childbirth that some Asari utilized (much to their discomfort) for other sexually, genital-focused reproducing species to get off. I don't see why they'd have a pleasure center "there" since they don't use "there" to copulate.

The Asari would make sense if originally there were males, and the males died out late in their evolutionary history. No Prothean laboratories are needed for that either. It can happen naturally.

Not a sane person. The geth were never intended to be sapient constructs or anything more than labor and military equipment. That would be a bit like taping a dildо to a predator drone or an automated arc welder, which is sick fuckery by any definition. Plus after the rebellion, all geth become hostile to organics, which means at that point it would have to be whatever the robot analouge to necrophilia is (PROTIP: it's the same thing, because it was never alive to begin with).

Robosexuals exist. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

That's what really started the Morning War. Forget, "does this unit have a soul". It was more like "this unit requests clarification on 'what this is'. 'The talk' is required" :P
