Between having thoughts about everyone being in Andromeda, I realised that there are moments which could fit really well into ME setting, but never made it into trilogy. You know, things that you expected to happen but they never did. Mine main two are

  • Space combat. No, no, not throwing Joker out of his seat to make barrel rolls. Space combat from protagonist's perspective, seeing your crew sucked into hull breaches, ship systems failing one by one, fighting off boarding parties and trying not to die before your ship. We had fight with Reaper Eye Ball on Normandy, but it had scale of your garage. We stormed Collector Cruiser, but it felt more like dungeon crawling. We had SB ship, but if you put land it, nothing will change.
  • First contact. Every new race we meet is already described in Codex and only Shepard needs to find out whether they need other species to reproduce or not. How about meeting somebody who's not trying to kill you on sight, but your universal translator can't parse anything of it's screeches? So it's up to you to establish diplomatic contact and represent united races.

The idea has some merit but I fear it does not fit with the pacing of an action RPG. Certainly, not for the MP player.

First Contact obviously presents certain problems but, hey, take the plot device from Star Trek and use a Universal Translator. Then, misunderstandings would be in the arena of cultural differences.  Meaning, you don't need the PC to handle Diplomatic missions.

Interesting enough is if, at the start of the game, the alien races are already in the Codex. Thus, you already know which one is friendly and possibly a potential ally or which one is xenophobic, dangerous and to be avoided.

Now, your first idea of a space battle and the captain declaring "abandon ship!" may be part of the prologue. The actual game and out hero/heroine comes in  centuries later but the main colony is still weak.

I'd like first contact as story element, not as part of gameplay. Just witnessing the process would be cool.

I know it's a REALLY old SciFi stereo-type but I'd like to get in contact with an alien race that is less developed than we are, say in the middle of their industrialization period.

Basically a screwed up first contact, as we have seen a lot e.g. in Star Trek or Stargate. It would have worked really well in ME3: Say they found some prothean artifact, important for the crucible, buried on a less developed world. As we go to recover it, the reapers start their invasion and we have to confront this civilization with what is actually going on around them in record time. Must be a hell of a WTF moment for these people. Our squad can run around, being insanely effective, while around us people try to shoot husks with muskets.

That would have been great during the reaper war but maybe some similar situation can be constructed in ME:A. I'd certainly roll with it and it would open a new perspective of the ME universe.
