Do to cost cutting measures you can only build life support units capable of supporting 3 different species, who do you pick?
You have an Ark, Yet can only fill it with 3 races.

When I saw the name I thought this was a rant about only having Krogan, human, Turian lol.
I would pick Human (obviously), Asari (low numbers, but each is worth more than a normal human so the limited capacity makes them worth while), Geth (supreme adaptability, plus ability to work in zero grav environments naturally).
This is a purely practical decision of who I would bring. If we went by my personal fan preferences it would look different.

I have no idea why we would jump to the conclusion Turians are in Andromeda, new info made available?

Hmm? Maybe, I was dreaming, maybe we still only know Krogan and human.

There are several interesting options, maybe some of them could be social experiments like those vaults in Fallout.
1 - Krogan, Turian and Salarian (three races that really like each other)
2 - Vorcha, Volus and Elcor (for the lols)
3 - Vorcha, Asari and Hanar (for the lols)
4 - Human, Turian and Hanar (human vs turian past will lead to possible conflcits and the Hanar to delegate between them)
5 - Krogan, Asari and Vorcha (sophisticated society vs "barbaric" society)
6 - Turian/Quarian, Human/Asari, Volus. (Dextro, amino and amonia)

Quarians need sterile environments, so their life support is probably the most expensive. Denied.
Volus need special cabins with their own atmosphere, life support is very expensive. Denied.
Krogan need to be sedated or they'll fight each other when confined to small spaces. Denied.
Turians need different food than most species, so they don't get on board. Cheaper to just have one kind of food on board. Denied.
Elcor would be awesome and badass but BioWare has no clue about biology, gravity or science in general, so they are total wimps in ME. Denied.
Hanar... let's be serious, no Hanar. Denied.
Asari can do everything humans can do and better. They get a spot and humans don't.
Geth are software, they don't need any life support and can run the entire ship better than anyone else. They get a spot.
That leaves Salarians and Vorcha. While the Vorcha can adapt physically to new environment, that's of no use when the rest of the crew can't do it, too. Their extremely short lifespan makes training them almost a waste of resources. Salarians live longer, learn faster and would make excellent partners for Asari. Vorcha: denied.
So... Asari, Geth, Salarians would be my choice.... and since the Geth don't actually need space, life support or food, we still have some space for humans. ![]()

Do races that can be stored and/or not need life support count? And if two races can survive off the same life support, do both count as one slot?

Human, Krogan, and Salarian Scientists so they can fuse the Humans and the Krogan to get Space Marines.
Bees, flies and wasps.
What's this, a standard BSN thread suddenly plagued by bees!? My briefcase full of bees will put a stop to that!

Human (but only to make sure I get a seat on the ark), Asari (an entire race of hot blue women with deep and interesting culture? Yes please!), Krogan (helpful for the heavy lifting and exploring the harsher sections of whatever new environment we settle in).

You would only take those who could contribute resources to actually building it, without blowing out the cost or risking contruction.
The only species who could conceivably build this would be Asari, Salarians, Humans, Turians and Volus.
Volus would be an extreme additional cost so would be cut even though they could contribute to the construction equally.
Humans and Turians are too busy committing resources to fighting the Reapers so would be unlikely to contribute a lot, and therefore unlikely to be invited.
Neither the Asari nor the Salarians are particularly interested in engaging the Reapers, so it stands to reason they would be more likely to commit many resources to this and would go by themselves. Why take Turians when you could take more Asari and Salarians?
The only other possibility are the Geth, but their standing and instant communication with the Reapers would make them far too risky to be included.

Humans, salarians (candidates must audition for a spot with any musical or dramatic performance of their choice - preference given to anything Gilbert and Sullivan-related), and the elcor (candidates must also audition for a spot but will be limited to performing a soliloquy from Hamlet).

You only get 3, i don't care if they are biologically similar or are mechanical, if you are going to play that game Synthesis happened and broke the laws of the universe making it so that only 3 different species can be on any given ark at any given time.

Well, I agree on humans and Asari - but I would chose the Quarians as the third race (!) because Geth don't take up space, they can be uploaded to the Quarian's suits
(so I got both creative engineers who can fix almost anything and work under less than optimal conditions and a collective AI that can detect and fight threats and help out with building stuff (after all: The Geth are general purpose machines and were primarily invented as a workforce!))
greetings LAX
ps: All in all I would - if resources are the problem - only build live support for a small number of people and take frozen embryos (and equipment to gestate them artificially) of all the races if that's the problem!
