For me it would have the be the Baldurs Gate books. Absolute garbage especially if you're a fan of the series. The main character is basically just a dumb musclehead who uses brute force to accomplish anything and the side characters from the game are basically butchered in every way possible, often killing many of the loved characters off from the game in terrible ways. Minsk is a bar owner who works for Bodhi if I remember correctly and he has red hair... RED HAIR! <_< it doesn't help that events often happen without giving context as to why and the writing is just poor in general.

How about you guys? What's the worst novels you've read and why?

The Host. If you think the Twilight Series is awful(and it kinda is), the host has pacing issues like nobody's business. >.<

The beginning and one specific "memory" sequence near the end were neat, but the rest didn't do a damned thing for me.

Same author as the Twilight Series too isn't it?

Dream Cat. Some classmates and my teacher and I read it out loud for laughs in class my senior year of high school. Absolutely abominable.

Catcher in the Rye, overrated and tedious to read.

If we want to keep it to sci-fi/fantasy, everything written by Terry Goodkind.

Catcher in the Rye is more like one long rant crammed into a book that takes the protagonist in weird directions. I wouldn't call it the height of storylining, but it was certainly memorable.

Same author as the Twilight Series too isn't it?

Unfortunately, yes.

The Last of the Mohicans- Boring as f*ck. Took me months to finish it.

A Wrinkle in Time- I've had to read this twice for school (Elementary and High School.) I STILL don't understand a f*cking thing about it. Confusing as hell.

There are probably others but I can't think of any xD

I found the ending to this book artless and depressing. It made me feel like the author had suddenly tired of writing about his characters and was a bit lazy with the final chapters.

Eragon.

Not that it's a bad book, obviously a lot of people love it and it's follow-up titles. I just never liked it, tried to get into it and couldn't. I also hated that one chick.

Twilight. I never did finish that. I maybe finished about this __ much of the book and then tossed it in the giveaway pile. The thing is, is that it's not the type of book I normally would read and I only started reading it because my co-worker at the time was like "OMG, you have to read this book!"

I did not mind the book but the bloody film. That was a wreck. And such an abrupt ending and no follow up.

Dombey and Son - not a bad book, just an overlong and dull one by a normally brilliant author (Charles Dickens)

Most of the books I read are nonfiction and tend to involve subjects I'm interested in

can't recall an awful one of those

Stephen King's Under The Dome

Only got this because of the TV show which I did not enjoy thinking that the book might be better. It's better in parts but the resolution to the story is a real let down.

Ah I was interested in reading this one a while back but never got around to it. Guess that's for the best X3

I have a lot of respect for Stephen King. He's written some amazing books and I read ton of his works as a kid but he can be a bit hit and miss.

Does hearing excerpts from 50 Shades of Grey on the Honest Trailer parody count? Because then that book.

If not I think it's the first book in Shannarah (did I spell that right?)

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. But this one sucked! It took great effort to get to the end. I never like leaving a book unfinished no matter how bad it is.

Twilight. Pure garbage. I was tempted to read the 50 Shades one just to see how bad it is, but decided against that for the sake of my sanity.

Jurassic Park. While it's a well written book, I personally did not find any of the characters likable and as it went on I just wanted for all of them to die. Like, holy sh*t, they're the complete opposites of their movie counterparts. Some of the most obnoxious people I've ever seen in a book. Also a tad too much science talk. I get that things need to be explained, but there's no need to dedicate half the book for that. I just didn't enjoy it at all and in the end felt somewhat disappointed.

Metro books. The main characters are kind of dull. First one's an idiot and the other has about as much personality as a brick wall. Also nothing much really happens in the second book, it's more of an awkward love story.

Oh don't knock it. It is a good book, it's just the final act tears it all down for me.... This is just my own POV.

You may love it to bits.

Come to think of it it's been a while since I've actually read a SK book. Last one was the cell phone one and that was just sort of so-so.

I've kind of wanted to reread the Stand lately but that's a topic for another thread.

The A Song of Ice and Fire series.

If I wanted to read about food I would read a cook book.

Also I agree everything by Terry Goodkind is awful.

If I wanted to read Ayn Rand I would bash my head against a wall.

At school we had to read a book called stone cold. Now I liked some of the books we read at school Of mice and men being a great one but not this one.

It's supposed to be a book about homelessness the struggles people face and why it happens. It does have a lot of that and handles it well but it goes to **** when the plot moves away from that and starts to focus on some psychotic military man murdering random homeless people because he's insane. It's so ****** bad. Especially the ending where the protagonist drops 100IQ points and does something completely and utterly retarded.

Hated both. Watched the movie first. Someone said the book was ten times better. I tried to go in with an open mind. And after 3 attempts I couldn't get through it.
