How did you get light-hearted and funny tones from this trailer?

Harley cocking the bat and ditzy response to Boomerang's "crazy" comment hits some humor, but yeah, it's fairly heavy.

Par for the course for the SS, especially the New 52's version of it.

We absolutely need a different short form. Because...

Here's a good question, which SS member is gonna get killed off in this movie? :P

I imagine they're gonna play up the emotional connection of either Flag or Deadshot. Both of them will probably butt heads as being the "leaders", then come to an understanding. Deadshot has a kid, Flag has a girl, that's who they fight for. Then they also become buddies. And one of them makes a sacrifice or what not.

Or they'll kill off one of the no names like Slipknot or El Diablo :P

I'm banking on Diablo (was featured in the trailer), unless they decide to dial up the personal drama and off Deadshot.

Or both.

One does not simply kill off Will Smith, he gotta save Earf :P

I'm thinking Slipknot because he's by far one of the most useless villains I've ever seen, maybe they'll kill off Killer Croc

Doubt they'll kill Croc. Unless they don't feel like dealing with that makeup in future movies.

Slipknot might bite it early. Waller exerting her authority, maybe.

I thought those shots were trying display the twisted child like nature of Harley Quinn. Maybe I've been watching too many Marvel movies because I didn't think were funny but rather accurate to the comics.

They weren't, but they'll come across as lighter humor to those unfamiliar with the character, which is a lot of mainstream folk despite her geek cred.

I'm coming right out and saying it, this movie does not look good. In fact, it looks like the most tonally confused train wreck I've seen in some age.

Like, "Hey, what's big right now? Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy? Cool. Let's do a light-hearted movie about a team of misfits joining together then, and let's make it covered in enough grim-dark edgelord sauce to make it fit the rest of our films".

They're going through the motions of either trying to make it funny or trying to make it serious. I can't tell which one, but somethings gone terribly wrong between how this movie is being shot, and the content of the film itself.

I think the idea was more "Ok, we have our new Universe. How do we introduce more Batman too it without making a new Batman movie? What's a relatively popular, yet still sort of unknown property Johnny?"

"Uh, well people seemed to like those Suicide Squad episodes of Arrow."

"PERFECT!"

How did you get light-hearted and funny tones from this trailer?

Harley Quinn, The Joker Mobile, That Panda Costume, The Sheer Silliness of the premise complete with "We're some kind of suicide squad" and the fact that its completely biting Guardians of the Galaxy.

The stupid music, the cringey dialogue, and the filters on their camera though make it out like all of DC's other "uber-serious" films.

It's why I say, this film is a train wreck and a mess, that doesn't know what kind of film it actually wants to be. Batman knew it wanted to be dark and serious. Superman didn't know if it wanted to be Dark, Profound, or Inspirational. This movie doesn't even know which side of the extremes of the spectrem it wants to be on.

Calling it now. Wallers is going to shoot one of them in the back of the head when things go south as a "shocker moment" to show how cold and ruthless she is at her job.

Why would Waller shoot one of them when she could blow their head off with the miniature bomb in their head?

Could be both. That's kind of what Suicide Squad stories do best: mix bloody chaos with borderline hilarity.

But see if it does that then it doesn't really know what it's trying to be. That's a straight fact  ;)

Hell the Premise isn't all that silly. It makes alot of sense to me.

You have all these criminals and assassins with advanced skillsets and superpowers, and you have borderline suicide missions where you don't want to waste soldiers lives on to complete.

If I was a government official in the DCU and I heard Wallers pitch I'd be chucking all my money at her for those head bombs.

And like she said if something goes wrong they get the blame

Because thats neeeeeevvvveeeeeerrr gone wrong before. Especially for the United States. That's why Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan are working out so well for the US. What with all those regimes we backed in secret and all that plausible deniability we had for the stuff they did.

Yeah I'm acting this salty now. The stupid fake choir music of this trailer killed any good mood I had.
