It might be because I'm stuck in the past, but part of me still doesn't really feel a Harley Quinn that seems to be mostly about sex appeal. Not that I'd actually want to complain, Margot Robbie looks amazing in the role. It's just... it doesn't feel quite right to me. But I guess that'll go away once we see more than a never-meant-to-be-released-to-the-public trailer.

There are also some... interesting speculations floating around the net about the nature of Leto's Joker:

I have two real concerns.  The first is the same I have for Batman vs Superman, that they're shoving too many things into one movie and it'll just turn into an incoherent mess.  The second is that they'll try to make these villains too sympathetic.  I mean, I get Deadshot.  In the few Suicide Squad stories I've seen he's the one used to help the audience sympathize through his care for his daughter.  I'm fine with that, as long as Will Smith can sell it, I wasn't completely convinced by what he did in the trailer.  I'm more concerned about Harley and the movie to make her crazy the result of Joker's torture, I'm worried about them trying to make her too sympathetic rather than the weird stockholm-syndrome-ish psycho that she is.

All that said, I'm now sold on Leto's Joker and more optimistic about the film overall.  The one liners weren't great, but I'm hoping they'll stick out less in context.  If they can make all these pieces fit together, I'm hopeful.

I have to admit that the trailer for Suicide Squad looks mildly interesting. It looks like it could be a rather nihilistic and downbeat film, which would count as pretty risk-taking for a superhero movie.

I've heard the current wave of superhero films compared to the era in which Westerns dominated much of the movie-going landscape. Part of what broke Hollywood's addiction to the Western were a spate of films (starting with High Noon and going up through Butch Cassidey and the Sundance Kid, The Wild Bunch, High Plains Drifter, etc.) which shattered romanticized conceptions old West in cinema.

I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that Suicide Squad will be the film to do this for superhero movies (especially considering the quality of the some of the dialogue in that trailer), but I figure at some point it ought to happen. It probably should have been Watchmen, but regrettably, that movie was directed by Snyder.

Does that make Chris Evans the John Wayne of super hero movies?

Ben Affleck and Jared Leto are the same age. So that'd be stupid to make Joker a former Robin with that in mind.

I'm really not sure there's anything to those theories, but I have to admit that this scenario would actually solve just about all the problems I have with both the new Joker and the extremely bitter and radical Batman we got.

This theory does create a new problem in that it re-writes Harley's origin. It's pretty clear in this trailer Leto's Joker is the one to make Harley Quinn and I am not sure how fans will react if she's not linked to the original Mr.J.

Leto is 43 and Afflecks 42.

I just want to reiterate how this theory is stupid.

It's like 22 Jump Street but without it being a running gag.

Joker should be Commissioner Gordon

To be fair, actor age doesn't mean a thing, because older actors play teenagers all the time.

That said, I do doubt the theory will turn out to be true.

Poor Batman.

He goes to all this trouble just to get them in jail.

And then this happens.

Thanks... uhhh.... Obama?

This is why Ra's Al Ghul's solution is the best solution! Kill them all!

Unless it's Arrow Ra's.
That one was so unbelievably lame it's not even funny.

Kevin Conroy would never have let this happen.

Season 1 and 2 are amazing.
3 sucked.
Like really bad.
Got blue-balled by how much Ra's was hyped and how flat he ultimately was.

I wouldn't recommend it... Their version of Count Vertigo might be offensive to fans of Scarecrow.

I'm sure if they ever did get the actual Scarecrow to show up in Starling City for the show he'd be handled horribly.

DC couldn't even let them use Ted Kord or Harley Quinn despite setting them up earlier.

Scarecrow is off the table 100%

Well there's still hope for an Arrow / Constantine crossover.
