The hipfire penalty is a bit too large but besides that, I feel the Indra is fine as it is. It is my second used sniper rifles in PuGs. That pretty much sums up how much I like it.

I find it useful for eliminating mook targets. If my aim is good enough a short burst to the head usually eliminates one mook, and if there's a cluster of them expending the entire clip will usually kill most of them. If the AP mod is installed. Use incendiary ammo's DoT effects and it can do decent damage to the bosses, at least when you get past any shields/barriers and start hitting the armor.

Folks actually love to hipfire SRs that much...
Anyway. I'm finding it hard to see why folks don't love it? Unless they don't love auto ARs like Harrier/Lancer. As it's my go to SR for when I'm not in the mood for real SRs and need to start using some SR amps too.
I think my favourite part about it, besides full auto, is that it's so light. The lightest SR along Viper & Raptor and lighter then even the Lancer. This alone makes it the most flexible SR in the game for more kits and setups it can be used on. So Indra naturally comes up for me quite a bit because of this.
It's also great for practicing melon shots. So very beginner friendly, yet still great for experts.\
EDIT - the smoke trailblazing also lets your teammates how great your console aiming is... wait, it can also show how bad it is too...

Indra is one of those guns that I have fun with while I'm using it, but never have the itch to play with it, if that makes sense.

If you are good with it you can kill from far off, and up close like the video shows.

I'm good with it... even thought about hoping onto my X-Box maxed manifest for a few games just to play the Indra... but too busy playing Mass Effect 2...

Personally I found that it's just too much recoil to make it useful as a sniper rifle,
Wait, what?
If serious. Then just use Barrage Gear or Stability consumable (which I actually use on Indra sometimes. Namely for Hunter Mode fire rate). Otherwise with it's default fire rate, Indra has one of the easiest to control recoil out there... in a weird way it even feels like it helps with headshots sometimes (but that's just probably muscle memory expecting the recoil).

I use the CSR like the Mattock and it ****** wrecks. Try it sometime! Surprisingly effective.
I JUST tried this last night after seeing your post. Holy crap. I felt like I was in god-mode.
I love using the Indra in ME3 single-player campaign, but I won't take it higher than Silver in MP except on a few specific kits (QuarMark, GI, SI, TI).

Right? When my buddy told me to try it I was skeptical because I thought my way was good enough, but man, I was so wrong. It's like a brand new gun, and I overheat it way less too!

I used to have it on all my toons but now only the turian soldier uses it on gold match. Works very well with the prox mines.

I don't blame people for calling Indra a silver level weapon. It basically performs the same role as the uncommon (silver card) Raptor and Incisor, but actually has slightly less DPS, and that's assuming you have them all at level X (usually you will have low level Indra and maxed others unless you are a BSN tryhard) .
Raptor has much smaller hipfire penalty as well (15% vs 50%). Only downside is the semiautomatic operation to get max ROF, but that isn't really difficult to attain for anyone with decent levels of shooter experience because it only fires at 400 RPM anyway.
Indra is by no means underpowered (it's a great mook sweeper), but it is underwhelming given its UR status.

The above description is incomplete re: the Indra vs. the Incisor/Raptor. The Raptor has great theoretical DPS, but the vast majority of people probably don't actually achieve that DPS or even close to it, because they can't pull the trigger fast enough. The Incisor also has great DPS, but to get the most out of it vs. mooks, you need to somehow achieve near 100% stability, which limits the gear/equipment you can take. The Indra suffers from neither of these problems, which is why it is a better gun than the Raptor/Incisor. Probably doesn't deserve to be an UR though.

My theory is that they deliberately made guns that straddle the line between weapon classes into URs.
SR --> AR = Indra
AR --> SR = Sabre
Shotgun --> SR = Crusader
Pistol --> Shotgun = Talon
Pistol --> AR = Eagle

Then there's the Executioner...like a handheld SR (Widow/Mantis) with a touch of Crusader.

Indra is slightly easier to use than the Raptor, maybe. I don't really agree with that assessment personally because the stupid explosive ammo effect obscures the target and hipfiring it is pretty much pointless, making it practically unusable as a fire and maneuver weapon (compared to the Raptor, which still staggers mooks fairly well on headshots from the hip and doesn't suffer all that badly in TTK on most mooks). I've never found the Raptor's max ROF to be difficult to attain comfortably anyway.
Incisor does require one to build around it unless using it on a turian, but ultimately barrage gear and a stability mod isn't a huge deal unless you are using a grenade kit or are dependent on the scanner ( you can still throw it on the GE or GI to get around this, and it's not as if you are going for max efficiency and clear times equipped with an Incisor anyway). In return, you get a little more damage. I'd agree that the Indra is ultimately better overall because of the versatility you lose by being locked into those gear/consumables, but it's not really by much. Oh, the scope on the Indra's a little better for its intended role as well.

Yeah, it is kind of crazy effective. I use the CSR with Incendiary Ammo on the Human Infiltrator, with the combination of double-hits, Cryo debuff, and Incendiary damage, you can one-clip a Banshee's armor once you get her barrier dropped (if you burst-fire it).
I still sustain-fire it sometimes, like if I have a perfect headshot lined up on a mook, I want the kill to be as quick as possible before it moves or dodges.

I still find using the CSR without burst fire style still useful and relevant. It's called headshots. One quick continues burst one shot KO with CSR feels very good. Try it with a stagger power or stasis to make it even easier. So I usually only save the tapping method for bosses.
Incindiary Ammo is also best for CSR due to very high fire rate.
OT - just had a few waves with the Indra just now. Trying to think of what other kits to try this weapon on when I start playing again later today. As I usually mostly used the Indra on SE in the past.
