So for some reason all my companions are refusing to use abilities in combat. I've checked the tactics and made sure they're all active but companions keep only using basic attack and nothing else. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

yep, I found that by switching to them and making them jump,, they start using their abilities again.

I remember seeing something ages ago (like when the game first came out) where their AI would break in the way you describe, but nothing in recent times.
(The poster above is referring to a bug that really started after Patch 7 where characters will lock up in combat, refusing to move or do anything, which doesn't sound like your issue here.)

The combat Gameplay of Dragon Age Inquisition is the Bug.
The Dragon Age Oigins ones were perfect.

Yeah companions have been locking up a lot lately. Really frustrating when you're in the middle of executing some combos and they miss their cue. Ruins everything.

Yes, the companion freeze has only gotten worse after some of the patches. Or maybe I just noticed it more. Either way, it's there, in dire need of fixing. I always cure it by switching to the frozen companion and jumping. Any ability button will do, but only Jump is guaranteed to work every time. (Others might be in cooldown or lack mana/stamina.)

I've had that problem with Cole and Iron Bull, but luckily the others haven't been affected. I think it started around patch 7. As already stated, if you make them jump, they snap out of it and return to normal.

It has been happening a lot more, especially after the last patch. I wandered into a fight today and didn't notice I was the only one fighting until I was almost dead. ![]()

By the way.
The combat Gameplay of Dragon Age Inquisition is the Bug.
The Dragon Age Oigins ones were perfect.
DA2 shits on both.

Yup, it's making my current playthrough a pain in the arse. I'm a duel dagger rogue and my tank, be it Cassandra or Blackwall, seems to always freeze at the worst possible moments. Before you know it, you've got half the demons in Thedas on your back and you're tank's standing as far away from you as possible, staring at a tree. *disgusted noise*

It only happens to Blackwall for me, and now that you mention it, only since the latest patch.
