So let's talk about the elephant in the room: The overabundance of "romance" threads. (or rather gender war battlegrounds)

This overabundance sometimes serves to amuse, and other times acts as a peculiar pressure on my brain area.

(Indoctrination theory? Speculations for everyone...)

As amusing as they sometimes are, those kinds of threads just convince me more and more that the concept of "romance"

should be shot in the head and then burned.

This is supposedly a forum for a Sci-Fi TPS/RPG video game.

Where are the discussions about the Sci-Fi and TPS/RPG aspects? The importance of coherent, meaningful,

and engaging story, the concept of "choices and consequences", etc.

You can almost never find them.

Instead this forum looks more like a madhouse on fire, and the hottest topics have nothing to do with Sci-Fi or RPGs,

but are merely a tame version of the unholy place of Blood Fire Tears and Despair, also referred to as Tumblr.

Video game developers are pulled in a million directions at once, is it a wonder that so many games just fall flat on their face?

This was mentioned in other threads, but it bears repeating:

Dear Developers, please get rid of this monster called "romance" and all the baggage that comes with it.

This is not solving any equality issues, this just creates another battleground for brave internet warriors to spill virtual blood in.

Wait, are the romance threads about a different game?  Because I thought they were about ME, a Sci-FI TPS/RPG video game with romances.

Also, they are not mandatory.  I am sick of the overabundance of TW3-DA: I threads on the DA: I subforum.  So I avoid them.  And my life is much more stress free because of it.

All the ones on the front page currently are obvious parodies, troll threads and other jokes. The only insanity is the severe irony deficiency going on around here.

Some people see it as irony, others are willing to rip people to shreds over it.

I think that if all trolls were murdered brutally with a spoon, maybe game developers could make something half-decent.

Half of those threads were started by people looking to provoke a reaction. (a.k.a. trolls)

Sometimes they develop into a semi-serious discussion, like the transgender thread or the thread asking for a black female LI, but most of the 'Put X in Andromeda' or 'Cut X from Andromeda' threads over the last couple weeks were troll threads.

Whether or not the topics are started by someone looking for serious discussion, I think it is mostly just an effect of there not being much to talk about. Bioware has been very tight-lipped on Andromeda so far. The only thing we know is the setting which doesn't leave much to discuss.

1. The amount that romance is discussed on the forums is not indicative of the attention it's given by the Devs.

2. The discussion about choices mattering, story arc, villains, etc. is still very much present. The reason romance is generally more attention grabbing is because it's one of the most character driven aspects, and it contributes to the feeling of being able to "personalize" a play through.

3. Elcor did this better.

It certainly looks like it if you look at this forum. Some kind of a weird romance simulator with some sprinkles of other, not important stuff.

Romance threads ARE about the TPS/RPG called Mass Effect.  Role Playing a romance is roleplaying is it not?

You're just sick of romance threads.  end it there.  as your seperating them from this game makes no sense.  As they're fall under the RPG part of your complaint...rendering your complaint meaningless

It would be nice if Bioware took a break from it.......for science!

But it isn't happening.

Romance threads contain very little romance. It's about 99% flames and gender/sexuality wars. The last 1% is reserved for mods.

Yes yes, very nice. Just if you don't mind give me the love from over there, I like Vorcha, but not like this.

Also you are slightly... on fire, and I don't like the smell of cooked Vorcha in the morning.

Perhaps you should find someone to teach you how to handle your flamethrower safely?...

Yeah, the forum is reduced to either trying to seriously debate the troll threads that are invariably about romances or alternatively complaining about the drop of the Milky Way as a setting (which typically degenerates into a debate about the ME3 ending and how the setting never made sense). We used to have MP/SP troll threads but those look to have dropped off.

I think that would have the opposite effect. Rather than decreasing romance-related topics I'd bet on it creating more of them, with the inevitable complaint threads.

Do you know, why there is so much Discussion about Romance?

#1. Because it is, quite naturally in Fact, a Topic to which People easily build up an emotional Reaction, causing them to care about it more than about Parts of the game of similar Importance, like say, a crafting System.

#2. because it is one of the few Things we can actually do speculate about and offer up our Wishes at this Point and with the extremly small Amount of Information we currently have about the Game, the Story and so on.
