Yup it's free forever as long as your friends download before July 21st
Correct. The download is available for a limited time, until 10am PDT on Tuesday, July 21. Once you have downloaded the trial, you have full access to DAIMP on PC.
If you decide to upgrade to the full version of DAI, your progress in DAIMP will come with you.
If you have some friends that have been on the fence, or you're just trying to fill up a party, it's a great time to recruit some new players :-D

This would be so awesome...if only I had any friends. ![]()
Nah, it's still awesome...some of us (not me, i'm happy clappy damper) have been complaining about people leaving and no new people...here's a solution!
Inb4 inevitable 'i only bought this game for mp'
Are you sure it's not just a trial until 21 July, where you can play 6 hours of the campaign and as much multiplayer as you want for the duration of the trial? It seems kinda silly for them to give away permanent access to multiplayer for free.
From what I've gathered, MP (and the 2 free DLC) are unlocked forever, so you can play to your heart's content. They did something similar with the ME equivalent, IIRC. It's a good deal, and I've passed the message along to my husband. I'm not into MP myself, but he likes it. He's held off on buying DAI because he had no interest in playing SP (he hates games with a lot of talking), but who doesn't like free stuff?

We'll see. The way it's worded it sounds like you can play a limited amount of the SP but an unlimited amount of the MP for the trial period. If that's not the case, their legal department is bloody horrid, as this is false advertising in a way that screws the business, not the consumer lol.

You have to remember that MP continues to generate income long after the original sale. People buy platinum with real currency, so it's in their best interests to swell the MP ranks. Plus, they're giving away a digital copy of the game. The production costs are already covered through preorders and initial sales, so at this point, they're only paying for bandwidth. They can afford to give away copies for free if it means more platinum sales down the road.
Why not make the multiplayer free and stand-alone?
Like they did with games such as Uncharted 3... There is already a monetary component intergrated so it is no loss for the EA/Bioware to make this free... Also it's P2P so not like it's costing in hosting.

Good to know, hopefully "searching for a game" will not result in myself creating a lobby from now on.
Next thing: remove the mp region lock plz.
Bioware, could we please get some confirmation as to whether the multiplayer access is permanently unlimited, or unlimited until July 21st? I just want to know so I can appropriately inform my friends ![]()
@scene_cachet
That is actually a really good idea...
My friends don't like DAMP.
Not much of a dig, since all two of them already have it.
Deep...
I wouldn't wish DAIMP on any of my friends.
I lol'd and I'm in a meeting over the phone, luckily I muted my phone.

Billys response was posted straight after this with his statement starting with "Correct", so I assume that's what he means otherwise I'd think he'd have clarified further.
I can see where it can lead to confusion though, using the words "trial" and "unlimited" together to describe the multiplayer segment of the game may lead to confusion.
I'm a little wary myself since the authentication part of the game starts at boot or log into dragon keep so I can see this blocking you access once the trial is over - that is, I'd have thought the trial checks occur before you even access the multiplayer part of the game.
Nevertheless, I'll plug it into the forum part of my diablo3ladder fansite where there's a fair amount of exposure for gamers with similar interests (forums deserted there but the post links are featured in every page at the side bar so it'll be highly visible for those regular users)
Nice. I bet I can finally get my sisters to join me now.

Pretty cool deal!
Will let all my friends know! (Some of them wanted to play, but didn't want to give the full Price of DA:I currently)
Minor correction: Free "forever" would assume that the server(s) that download your profile settings will remain up forever, are not subject to being bought out, or EA/BW isn't outsourcing part of the MP duties to 3rd-party middleware. Even though the game is P2P, there may be server requirements that could make the game dysfunctional if services were stopped.
