Oh and blondes too. They seemed to be a rarity in this franchise.

Really? Cause when I play ME, I don't see a "black and white" game. While there are some you can clearly tell that are white and even fewer that are black, other NPCs and even characters from the graphic novels, are of another race or mixed.

Mass Effect has several asians in it. Kasumi Goto, Emily Wong, and Maeko Matsuo come to mind.
Same with blonds. Armando-Owen Bailey, Conrad Verner, and Kaira Sterling for example.
Not saying I don't agree with wanting more racial diversity, because I do, just pointing out that they aren't entirely missing.

Kaidan is from Singapore (raised in Canada), Kasumi Goto is from Japan. Maeko Matsuo uses Japanese language. Emily Wong is Chinese.
There's plenty of Asians. By contrast, I don't think there was a single confirmed American.

Oh yes. I'd love to create the main character as an asian viking. Asian facial features, long blond hair, muscled. Badass.
I'm not joking.

And then there's Mr. Bahtia in ME, whom I think is Indian.

Kahlee Sanders and Jack Harper are to my knowledge the only confirmed Americans.

Vega is American. He was born in New York and moved to California if I remember correctly. Or was it the other way around?
Considering Emily Wong had a North American accent, its probably safe to assume she was either American or Canadian. Although in the Mass Effect universe neither of those nations exist. They've been combined into the United North American States. That, or she was born on a colony world largely settled by North Americans.

I wish I could see Kahlee and Anderson working together. After the first book, and a few dialogues in ME3 would have been nice to see those two have closure. I would have loved to see Sanders and Anderson lip lock in the citadel DLC if given the opportunity to invite them.

Hardly.
The Americans pulled a fallout and annexed Canada.
Which who can blame them really? Useful resources and vast exploitable land.
And any struggle from the Canadians would be... Rather futile compared to the might of the Americans.
That's how I assume it went down anyway.

It was a similar deal with Ashley. She never mentions it in the games, but the writer who created her stated she is Hispanic.

I don't think any nations as we know them today exist in the Mass Effect universe. If I remember correctly they've all merged into large superstates by the time of ME1. Some cities are merged too. Seattle and Vancouver are a single megapolis in ME1, and the same was mentioned for Dallas and Houston.

I know, more or less.
I'm just pointing out I like to think it happened that way, I mean seriously, whose going to tell America no?
Canada?
Roll a quarter million troops up there and I bet they cave before Christmas.
Do the same with bits and pieces of central and south america and there you have it!

I mean, currently more or less 5 Billion out of 7 Billion live in Asia or Africa, and if the population is growing up to 11 Billion then that proportion would increase.
I suppose you could plausibly argue that the people in space aren't necessarily representative of the people on Earth, but the Mass Effect population make up still seems off.
I can give live action sci-fi a pass on this because they're limited by appearances of the pool of actors they're hiring from, but a computer game has no real reason for it.

>_< So they were weeded out? Did a starship come and collect all the people with skin darker than a paper bag? (reference drop ala Cosmic Slop) is this how humanity unlocked the sciences of the Mass Relays and Mass Effect technology, did they give all the colored folk to the Salarians for "Evolutionary Trials? Morphological Simulations? Exogenic Assessments?"
Also Mordin says that humans are ideal for genetic testing because of the genetic diversity amongst its species.

What about fat people? It's like everyone works out daily for an hour. In ME1 we had one heavyset cop - Eddie Lang. How come no more? Mass Effect: home to the beautiful people - except we don't know what's under the masks or behind those pressure suits.

Everyone uses mass effect fields to lower their body mass, making them thinner. ![]()
