Can you play the game without any companions? Not talking about leaving them at the camp, but not recruiting/getting rid of people. Besides of Alistair and Morrigan, you can chose not to recruit every one else. And you can make Morrigan leave. So are you stuck with Alistair all of the game or can you get rid of him too??

Short version: No you're stuck with Alistair for most/all of the game.

Slightly longer version:

How to get rid of most of the companions.

Spoiler

The true solo experience can be found in Awakening. The opening has mandatory companions, but after that, almost everyone of them can be kicked out or disposed of.

A thing I found interesting when playing solo, when you do the ashes quest, wraiths appear to stand on the other stones for you.

^And they have armor that can be unequipped and added to your inventory.

Sounds very silly but I find solo runs quite lonely - Which is odd because I've just become addicted to Skyrim!

Did anyone tried that? Is it harder?

What do you recommend for such playthrough? Alistair is warrior, so which is better for Warden - rogue or mage? Female for romance ofc (human to become Queen, or elf/dwarf to stay as Grey Wardens together). I also think about keeping mabari hound, cause why not. Worst part is, it doesn't matter, Leliana is still in Inquisition, etc.

EDIT: Or even better - rivalry with Alistair. Two Wardens angry at each other, but sentenced to stop the Blight together.
