Think BioWare is scamming us with the new gen consoles? Any ideas?

Okay, I'd like to start with unlike some, I do not think they are trying to scam us out of our money but I do think there should be some kind of compromise.

I have explained my thoughts in why BioWare has cut everyone off from old gen consoles half way through the game instead of waiting until all DLC's have been released. Why they included old gens in the first place (seeing as some think that shouldn't have happened) and ideas on how maybe they can make things better for everyone on the blog below:

http://www.madeline-...cf286eab022eb9d

http://www.madeline-...om/#!blog/c1old

For those who want a quick re-cap I'll try and make a long story short.

1. Too many people were / are on old gens to not be included, BioWare would have lost a lot of customers leaving them out.

2. They are being cut off half way through instead of being allowed to play all DLC's because future DLC's are said to be too big for old gens to handle. But understandably this is going to upset a lot of people because they won't be able to finish what they started.

3. This is going to cost a lot of money to buy the new gen, buy Inquisition again, the DLC again (if already bought it of course) and most just can't afford that and maybe shouldn't pay for the game again?

4. Coming up with ideas to help both BioWare and customers. I read a good idea that this has happened to other game companies and what they did was, they sent the new gen game to customers for free if the customers sent them the old gen game.

I was talking to someone about this and we thought it would be a good idea to get one free download on new gen of the Hakkon DLC for those who already bought it on old gen.

Does anyone else have any other good ideas? Hopefully someone from BioWare will notice and come up with something that can please everyone to a certain extent.

Please keep it clean and no nasty comments. Thank you.

Edit:

Thanks guys for all the comments and your views, it's been great listening to everyone else's thoughts. It now seems (as some of us already wondered) that BioWare may not have had a choice in any of this and EA pulls all the strings, either BioWare has very little if no control over what deals and offers they can hold on their own games! BioWare would have to break away from EA to be allowed to do anything.  :bandit:

I believe JoH is already 'free' for those that purchased it on old gen.

Yeah, if I remember right. Purchase on old gen came with a free upgrade to PS4/X1. The other DLCs would have to be purchased again (Spoils of the Avvar, Flames of the Inquisition).

Oh that's good. The Avvar and Flames ones are weapon and armour packs aren't they? Players might not mind having to re-buy those because if they are item packs surely they won't cost too much, especially another £12.

Yes. If you purchased Jaws of Hakkon, or Spoils of the Avvar both of these will be downloadable for free once you upgrade.

You will, however, have to buy an new copy of the Base game. I  personally believe that a hefty discount should be offered to those who purchased the original game on last gen.

The game is already heavily discounted. It is selling for less than $30 on PS4 and $20 on Xbox One right now. People are acting like it still cost $60.

I've already expressed my idea, and it isn't really mine.  Look at Minecraft.  $20 on Xbox One, but only $5 if you already own the 360 version.  Everything you bought for it on the 360 transfers over freely, unless it isn't supported at all on the One.  (A couple of special-occasion texture packs didn't make the jump--those were always free anyway.)

A 75% discount on the game, and the inclusion of all DLC for free, seems equitable enough.

They should have provided a large discount, or to be real a free copy of the actual game along with free copies of the DLC because they will loose a large pool of consumers. With that said i wonder if the game would have been better if they had released it for current-gen and PC only, it certainly would have caused less backlash.

Right now, yes. But will it still be by the time the next DLC comes out?

I doubt that people who have been unable to afford a current gen console will have dropped everything the second they heard this news, to go out and buy a current gen console.

The price will continue to drop. By Fall it will be dirt cheap.

Not in all shops, some are selling it for over £60. Also how long will that last? What about the people who can't afford to get a new gen console for another few months or more and the game has gone back up to £50?

That's a good idea and sounds fairer than not doing anything for your customers. If you get a big discount it would definitely help.

I mentioned this one, I don't think it would have caused less backlash most likely more because a lot probably even most of their consumers were / are still using old gens, so many would have been left out. They would have lost a lot of customers.

Very true. I would LOVE to play Dragon Age on new gen but I'm one of those whom can't afford one right now myself either.  :crying: I definitely can't afford a new gen, fully priced game (again) and the DLC's (again). It's too much for one game. I'm not rich.

You think so? Will have to look out for that. As I mentioned above, I'm one of those who can't afford the new gen, and to also replace the game and DLC's I already bought.

Yes the price wil continue to fall. I paid 79.99 I believe  for my copy on pc and now it's 59. the price in the coming months should fall from there.

Yea I went to a gamestop and got it for $40 I was surprised because other ones in my area had it for $60 but yea there are places that have it for $30-$60 they just have to look around like I did.

Well, I suppose the only positive news for you is that the DLC will be free for you. But yes. The rest is a new overhead.

PC is a very different animal, though. Console prices are rarely as easily discounted as a new purchase. A lot of retailers DO stick doggedly to the RRP. They don't discount. If you want a brand new physical copy of the game you may still have to pay through the nose for it.

If retailers were bright they'd seize this opportunity to offer their own in store trade in deals.

Why should they buy a game they already owned again? Even if it's one dollar. DAI cost the same on every console, including last gen. The least they can do is upgrade every previous gen DAI owner to new gen for FREE. Fight for good gaming people. I find the concept of buying the same game twice disturbing, especially the way EA/ Bioware handled things.

Actually, it's the reverse (for consoles).  Physical copies are sold in an open market.  Digital copies are sold in the platform-owner's store, which is a monopoly.  Nowadays I prefer digital copies, but they seldom if ever go well below retail, until much later.  I refuse to pay more than about half price for downloads.  Ironically, physical copies--which I'm more apt to buy at full price--get heavy discounts at online resellers much quicker than the digital.  This immediately comes to mind:  I paid $18 US for a DVD of AC Black Flag for the 360 back when it absolutely would not budge from full MSRP on XBL.  Thank you, Amazon.

Wow it was nearly $80? Didn't realise it got that steep. Glad to see it's going down then. I'm hoping to buy my new gen console in about 3 months or so. :)

Might just depend on the shop you buy it from? Some might just simply be more expensive?

Well if the DLC is free and the game becomes cheaper then it's better than nothing. I've still wasted around £20 odd pound which is annoying but I guess that's better than £50.

Yeah see that's weird, I would have thought it would be the other way around. I mean, with console games you can't do anything but add DLC's if they are released, you can do a lot more on PC - making your own add ons, don't need a physical copy of the game, just download it, and other benefits for example. I would have thought PC would be harder to get the price down. Maybe there's more to put into console games? I don't know.

I have wondered if this is mainly EA influence. They are very money grabbing and care more about their own pockets than customers.

Yeah, it would've been nice, though I don't see this working for anyone but the folks who bought the game through the online store of their console. I imagine people who bought the physical copy would be pretty pissed to be left in the cold.

Costs 65 euros here.

On the topic, I think only correct way for Bioware is to offer free version of the game for those who already bought the game. This way they would have access to buy DLC's and give more money to Bioware.

Hey Panda, cool you commented on here, yours was one of the posts I saw discussing this before.  :)

I don't know what 65 euros are in pounds but I'm guessing around £50 also? Still a lot.

They wont replace them but apparently they are giving discounts on the game and giving the DLC for free to those whom already bought it. I'm wondering how you claim it though.

I guess around that, I don't buy things in pounds that often so I'm not sure ^^;

I know that you get Jaw of Hawkon free, you need just to log in with your PSN/XBOX live account that is same in old and new gen consoles I think and then get it on store free. Sth like that. I haven't heard of discount on the base game though.

Had the game been only for the pc. ps4 and xone and not for ps3 and x360. I would've bought a ps4 back in November before release. I chose not to since it was for the ps3 and I thought, ok, cool. I would worry about getting a ps4 some other time

I do plan on getting a ps4 in October for the Uncharted trilogy. At that time, if the next DAI dlc has been released before that time, I would expect it would be, I will watch part of it on youtube to see if its worth getting. If not I will continue playing the game on my ps3. If I do like the dlc, I will buy a used copy of DAI.

I like the idea about trading in the old copy and getting a free copy for the ps4/360, but I would be concerned if they require the people to provide a receipt for that copy that was purchased for the ps3/360. How many folks still have their receipt after 8 months? Maybe the store where the game was purchased could provide a copy. I believe the store I purchased the game can do that.

Me either but it sounds about right lol.

Yeah I heard that's free. me either, I went shopping yesterday and decided to check out the game price and it's basically the same price, it only went down by £6. I don't know what this "major discount" was all about. Maybe you have to somehow go through the game? Or maybe the games they saw that were on major discount were pre-owned games? I never trust pre-owned ones though.

Fair enough if you could have bought a brand new console straight away but that's you, you're only thinking about your own situation there, many people can't afford a brand new console, even now still, BioWare has to think of everyone, not just those with more money. If they didn't bring it out on the old gens so many would have lost out and BioWare would have lost out on a lot of consumers. So I can see why BioWare brought it out on all consoles as well because I bet they would have lost a nice chunk of money and customers otherwise.

That's a good way in doing it, more affordable way. At least you'll save some money.

They shouldn't need a receipt, wouldn't an actual physical copy of the old game be enough? If they have the game there in front of them I don't see why a receipt would also be needed to prove the customer bought the item when they are looking at the item right there lol.

A store should be able to get receipts if paid by card or on-line but if someone paid with cash, that might be a little harder to find.
