You seem quite stuck on only playing to grind the latest end game items.
Prehaps it is not the game that is in the wrong here, it may be your mindset going in.
I log in a play a few rounds when the fancy strikes me. Sometimes those few rounds turns into many hours in a weekend, other times I'll not touch the game for weeks due to other games out there that also need my attention.

I dunno. I've been married 10 years now and DAIMP feels like a step up.

Yes. No, maybe.
Can you repeat the question?

I can sympathize with the DAI team somewhat. I mean it isn't like they could vary recoil between axes or anything like that.
The combat system makes throwing in extra stats problematic. There isn't any real accuracy or hit probability in this game, so that is gone as a factor. And although enchantments are ok for differentiating the weapons, they don't really make any tangible difference in their handling.

I think it's a fair critique of an intentional design choice. If I didn't enjoy the gameplay as much as I do, the largely RNG nature of gear progression would have been a dealbreaker for me (as it was for my family and friends when we all started together). Thankfully, the devs appear to be addressing that a bit with the substantially increased Hakkon weapon drop chance, duplicate Hakkon drop prevention, and 2k gold chests with guaranteed rare or better items. I've gotten some of the last epic items I was missing from these chests too, though some players out there with much higher loot scores have had much worse luck. Pretty much reinforces your critique.
All that said, if you don't enjoy the gameplay and loot system, I wouldn't feel bad about passing on this game. It's as you say: with the limited time we have, we should probably spend it doing things we value. Your not enjoying the game as much as ME is a perfectly valid preference. I'd follow that and play other games that you enjoy more.

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly but I am not sure what your complaint is.
If you are talking about the Hakkon weapons, you can't get duplicates of them. You get one of each type per account.
Also, they aren't best in class per se. See Heartstring vs Hakkon bow, Yavanalis vs Hakkon staff, Dragon Maul vs Hakkon 2h, etc. Only the Hakkon weapon is restricted to dragon drops, everything else you can buy in chests.
If you only want to play a few matches with a rare weapon, the chest items are more than enough and provide a lot of interesting choices, e.g. guard on hit for assassins and mages. In fact, unless you have a lot of cunning promotions, the Hakkon weapons' 100% bonus crit damage isn't useful. Essentially, these weapons aren't for casual players anyways.
As for your YOLO sentiment, branches of Buddhism have whole sutras devoted to reincarnation and the wheel of Samsara, but I really don't want to talk about religion on a gaming site ![]()

Hakkon weapons are BIS by a long long way. No other weapon comes close to putting out as much damage as they do due to the huge critical damage bonus..
Also, they aren't best in class per se. See Heartstring vs Hakkon bow, Yavanalis vs Hakkon staff, Dragon Maul vs Hakkon 2h, etc. Only the Hakkon weapon is restricted to dragon drops, everything else you can buy in chests.
