It has not be officially confirmed dead by Bioware. The Catalyst has only been presumed dead at best thus far. I'm curious (and slightly concerned) that the Catalyst could make a return. It is the only character in all four Mass Effect 3 conclusions that potentially survived and Bioware may use it as a means to connect all four games together. The Catalyst also has the capacity to survive hundreds of thousands of years and presumably has the ability to travel to different galaxies too.  

 

We can be sure that Commander Shepard will not return in ME:A due to clear statements from senior Bioware officials. However, with no announcement from EA or Bioware whatsoever that the Star Child is out of the picture for certain, it remains an (unlikely) possibility...

There are literally not enough gifs, vids or any other forms of communicating the word "no" to respond to this. I'm sure some will try. But there's not enough no in all the multiverse to adequately cover this. Can God negate a concept so hard that even he cannot express it? I don't know but even that would not be enough to cover this.

Fantastic. The Catalyst should be the new ship's AI, analogous to EDI in ME2 and getting an absurdly sexualized robotic platform in the next installment.

It should also make frequent use of horrible Anikin Skywalker references in its dialouge, and be a romance option with terrible pick up lines that compare the PC to sand.

Why would this AI not have a back up? If it is dead that's a logical failing by Bioware just like the idea that you managed to defeat all the reapers. They may not appear in the next games though.
