*takes a deep Breath* Let's party. Continuing from here.
4. Alexej Davids, the brightest Star of Andromeda. Human Sentinel.
Background Synopsis:
Alexej, at 32 Years, has it all. Fame, Money, Talent, Success. He did come from a poor working Family and he became so much more. His Biotics enabled him to become an absolutely fantasic Musician, specializing in precise Applications of this Power to actually play several Instruments at the same Time. This Talent allowed him study with a Stipendiate at the most prestigious University of Andromeda, where he excelled, even though he doesn't come off as a terribly studious Person. He graduated and launched his Career as one of the biggest Stars that exists in Andromeda - similarly strangely, as classical Music does not exactly fill Concert Halls in this Day and Age. He became a Figure of public Interest... until he vanished one Day. And that Day is when he privately contacts the Player for safe Passage.
Personality:
Alexej is cocky, but if one expected Arrogance, they're actually looking in the wrong Places. Instead, he is kind of reclusive and gives off a Vibe of the "fragile Artist". However, he also gives off the Vibe that that is incredibly fake and the Player is allowed and encouraged to poke through these Holes to actually reveal... yeah, he's a Jerk. His Success went straight up to his Head and he thinks he deserves better than what he's getting. The Player however, can shut him up quickly, if s/he threatens to expose his Hiding on the Ship to the Public, which he begs the Player not to do. This is up to the Player, however, if they do it, they will find Alexej dead in his Cabin after the next Landing. He is a deeply dual Person, whose Respect you can initially only gain, if you present yourself as a very cultured Person.
Appearance:
Alexej is a white Human with visibly slavic Roots. He has long, flowing blonde Hair and a three Days Beard, which only looks semi-good. Luckily, he won't be showing off that Beard most of the Time, as he is wearing a featureless white Mask over his Face to conceal it. He wears a modified and somewhat armored Mestro's Outfit, however, nothing below that if he's in a breathable Atmosphere, where he exposes his Chest to the Elements. Admittedly, it looks good, he is well trained and he's aware of that. However, he always protects himself through some Tech Armor, wich is incorporated into his Design, especially on the Shoulderpads and along his Head and Sides. His most important Posession is not left from his View, as he always carries his most beloved Violin with himself, except in Combat. He doesn't let anyone near this Instrument and if the Player chooses to destroy it because they're an *******, they'll have to kill Alexej.
Combat:
Alexej is about self Preservation in both Defense and Offense, with precise Attacks and renewable Armor. Tech Armor is the latter One and always used, when he comes under Fire. He detonates it at Will of the Player, but sendomly on his own, as he is fragile without it. Warp is a Technique he already used for his Concerts, where he played some off-Instruments using only this Power. Now it's used as his primary offensive Ability. Barrier Drain works similarly to Energy Drain, except for biotic Barriers. This is the only Way, Alexej can get a biotic Barrier himself and he is eager to use it on Occasion. A Player can learn it, if he's loyal. Dominate, however, is his exclusive Loyalty-Ability, which can take over an organic Enemy for some Time, forcing them to fight for Alexej.
Approval/Morality System:
Unlike Jaya, Alexej is self-confident enough not to give Approval everytime the Player is on his Side. Instead, he approves of Players being civilized in Conversations, displaying themselves as culturally astute and covering up Holes in the Cover of Alexejs Facade (and especially his "Vanishing") up in Front of others. The last Point especially is something that can easily lead to Loss of Approval, if the Player chooses to give Hints or even unveil Alexej's Identity to Strangers. He also dislikes if the Player doesn't care or actively dismiss cultural Aspects and Value, he thus is very much pro-Establishment. Lastly, he also dislikes Players who ridicule or insult Others in Conversations, saying that this Behaviour does not befit the Captain of a Ship. But, damn, he likes being flirted with, that's for sure.
The other Squadmates generally display a bit of Disappointment in him, as he may be a big Star outside, but inside he's just a reclusive Asshat. He also doesn't think too high of them: He thinks Kara is very immature, while she thinks he's too stuck up. Nassha only views him peripheral and fails to have any Interest in what he cares for, leading to him judging her as an "uncultured Nerd that only cares for electronic Shrieks and big Explosions" - the latter due to a Movie he overlooks her watching. Jaya and he get along better than any other Pair of Squadmate (so far) and he tells her that if she'd been a little older, he'd totally go for her.
Loyalty Mission:
Alexejs Loyalty Mission is unlocked after the Player visists any of the Hub Worlds for the fifth Time after Alexej joined the Crew (or after some Point in the main Plot) and has a small Timer as to when it has to be done, namely, if it's later than the third Mission done after it's acquired, it will become unavailable. In that Case, Alexej will be found dead in his Cabin afterwards just like in the Case when the Player chooses to reveal his Identity to the World at any Point in the Game. He will unveil that he wanted to escape some shady, but influential People that he made a Deal with when he was younger. He will refuse to go into more Detail, but the Player can ask any of the three Mafia Princesses if they know what he's talking about, at which Point they'll promise to look into it.
However, this does not come to much fruition before the Loyalty Mission is undertaken, where Alexej shows the Player an emptied Concert Hall, where he tries to lay a Trap for his Pursuers. He reveals that he has Spread Rumors that he's going to play at this Hall within short Time and hopes to ambush them before they find him. The Player has the Option to investigate, where he reveals that they are Part of a familial Syndicate that helped him at basically all Points in his Life. They got him the Stipendiate at the University, they bribed his Professor to give him the Degree, they even made Promoters put him over more conventionally popular Musicians. However, when the Time came to pay up, he had irresponsibly blown away most of his Wealth for a Life in Fame and Success and thus had to go into hiding.
When the Pursuers finally show up, they will, surprise, surprise, be Members of the Sionis-Family Syndicate. You will have several Options as to how to deal with them, especially if the third Member of the Squad is one of the Mafia Princesses and additionally something depending on the potentially already happened Conclusion of the Sionis-Family-Arc.
- The Player can sell out Alexej to them.
Alexej will leave the Squad. The Player receives a Ton of Credits.
- The Player can kill them in Battle.
Alexej will be loyal. The Mafia Princesses will not take Part in the Fight, unless they're loyal. If you actively refused to do the final Mission of the Sionis-Family Arc, this is the only available Option here.
- The Player can negotiate that Alexej's Work for them is considered his Payment for the Family.
Alexej is loyal if succesful. This is only possible if either 1) A Mafia Princess is in the Squad, at which Point she negotiates that with her Dad. Or 2) The formerly loyal Mafia Princesses are the Leaders of the Family after you failed to save their Father in the Arc's Conclusion. OR 3) You saved Roman Sionis in the Arc's Conclusion, but none of the Princesses is with you at the Moment. If you didn't bring any of the Princesses and did not do the Arc's Conclusion yet, you can still negotiate, but Roman Sionis will decline your Request. If you do this Mission before you even have recruited the Mafia Princesses, you do not get this Option at all.
A loyal Alexej is a more open and personable about his past Life as a Star and becomes much more outgoing amongst the Crew, flirting with them and trying to use his Star Credentials to get them into Bed. It doesn't work. The only Exceptions are the three Mafia Princesses who's mere Presence will reduce him into wimpy Servitude, which will often be ridiculed amongst the Crew and potentially by the Player, too. However, he will ask the Player for Allowance to broadcast his Music to his Fans all over Andromeda, which will actually be an important Decision regarding your further Relationship, regardless of romanctic or just friendly. If you allow him to, you will get a Mini-Side-Mission, where Pirates will track you down when you want to dock a Hub World the next Time. It's really short and you kill them all.
Romance:
Alexej is romanceable for both Genders if the following Conditions are met. A) He has to be loyal.
The Player has to have presented themselves as culturally well-versed. C) The Player has to have allowed him to broadcast Music from the to his Fans. If A) isn't met, he will be flattered by your Flirting but ultimately say, he's not in the Spot to be in a Relationship right now. If
isn't met, he will dismiss the Player as a Barbarian, who would never have a Chance with him. If C) isn't met, the Romance can only become a Flingt, but he would not want to commit, as the Player doesn't support him in what he does with his Life. However, if all Conditions are met, the Relationship can progress beyond a simple Fling and become serious, with Commitment and Stuff. If it stays a Fling, another Romance can be chosen still.
Others: God, that was originally the worst Idea of the Bunch I had. At first, I didn't want him to tie him into Sionis, but it wuld be confusing to introduce another powerful, Mafia-like Organisation (which I found most fitting for the kind of Story I had in Mind). I hope he turned out as good as Broganisity's Take on it.
5. Khoran Thavit, the Stowaway. Drell Infiltrator.
Background Synopsis:
Now, this is not your usual Recruitment. You will more or less randomly get a Side Mission on a Planet that's not noteworthy, some Backwater Colony, where some Refugess tried to do their own Thing, You get there, you do the Mission - maybe delivering medical Supplies and being paid in some Sort of precious Metal - and you take off. However, when you land the next Time in a Hub, where you're supposed to bring these precious Metals, you'll find that they're not there anymore. Your Companions will assure you, no, the last Time you landed, they were still in Place. And thus, you need to collect a little Set of Clues, that ultimately will lead you towards Khoran Thavit, who was a Stowaway on your Ship from that Colony and wanted to steal that Stuff to start a new Life.
You will have several Ways of dealing with this Intruder. You can ill him, you can turn him over to the Police or you can recruit him on the Grounds of that being the Way they will be able to do something with their Life. In any Case, you will be able to give the precious Metals to the Businessman who originally gave you the Sidemission that brought you to that Frontier Planet and complete this Task. However, if you offered Khoran the Chance to join up with you, he will gladly accept and join the Crew with his particular Set of Skills. However, both Parts of the Mission can not be completed anymore, if you leave the Hub World after you were informed of this Development: You can neither recruit Khoram nor recover the Metals if you left the World after he stole them.
Personality:
Khoram is all about being invisible to People. The Drell where never the most noticed People of the Galaxy and the Colony he stems from is actually their only Settlement in Andromeda, as there are so few of them there. That Frontier Planet is perfect for them as a somewhat reptilian Species, but other Races do not seem to be inetrested in that Planet and thus leave it by the Wayside, unnoticed, invisible. Khoram fits in there perfectly. He is a shy and not too overly smart Guy from a Frontier World, silent and submissive. And thus, he reacts very positively if the Player shows Interest, draws Attention to him and puts him in the Spotlight. He also greatly approves, if the Player shows care to the little People, who would fall under the Radar. And he disapproves greatly if the Player panders to the Powerplayeers or cuts him short when he actually speaks up - which Players can do all the Time. He also dislikes rash Actions, epitomized by the Use of Interrupts.
Appearance:
Khoram is a small Guy, short and slim built - but he has these big, deep Drell Eyes People seem to like so much. His Skin has a more yellow, bleak Tone to it, while the Crests on his Head especially show several black Spots, almost Wasp-like on his Scales. He wears not much Tech, he simply doesn't have the Money, but he prefers long, dusty Coats with a Cowl over his Head to hide his facial Features when necessary. His Equipment is overall very old and not at all shiny, in dire Need of Replacement, which the Player is able to provide for him, FOR GREAT APPROVAL! of course. Overall, while he is not a super-attractive Hunk like Thane was, he is still not an ugly Guy and has a really charming, innocent Smile, if you can get him to talk to you and pull of the shadowy Hood.
Combat:
Khoram is about high Damage Spikes as long as he is visible and vanishing when he is not doing anything. His Tactical Cloak is the most important Tool he does posess, using it at every Time an Enemy takes him into Fire and vanishing, even at the Beginning of Battle. The Concussive Shot is used as an Opener as soon as he gets out of his tactical Cloak, preventing Enemies from doing anything against him as long as he's there. Decoy is used, when Enemies attack him and his Tactical Cloak is not useable at the Moment. The Player can learn this Ability if Khoram becomes loyal. Shadowstrike however is exclusive to him, unlocked when he becomes loyal. This allows him to vanish, get behind the targeted Enemy and take a devastating Stab into their Back, often being used as a killing Blow.
Approval/ Morality System:
Khoram is decidedly anti-Establishment, even though he is not a bad Person. He approves over favoring the small Person over the Law, he takes Notice if the Player in Turn takes Notice of Side-Characters and offers to help them. Generally he approves if they Player does seemingly unnecessary Sidetasks just for the Betterment of the People there. He does not approve of wringing out the Money for these Missions and is opposed to Mercenary Practices and valuing Money over People. Correspondingly, he disapproves if the Player chooses to work for big Corporations and Organizations, especially if their Interests are clearly self-serving. However, he is not above brutality towards these big Players, while he abhors doing the same to single and vulnerable People.
Most other Squadmates find him kind of dull, not caring about him much. Kara likes him at first, but thinks he's boring, turning into slight Animosity when he speaks up against her Family's Organization. Jaya is much less merciful with him, even insulting him as Vermin, when he tries to make a Point against the Sionis Family Syndicate. Only Nassha can relate to him, as she is a smilarly shy outcast - however he is disturbed by her Detachment from the People and her favoring of Technology. Alexej does not think too highly of him, either, singling him out as a prime Example of uncultured Barbarians that do not understand his Art.
Loyalty Mission:
Khoram has had a long Recruitment Mission, so his Loyalty Mission is a little shorter. It starts out with a Message to him from his Home Colony, where they call out for Help, as they are invaded. Khoram is of course eager to go and help. There is no soft Timer here, as his Drell People have gone into Hiding and your first Task is to locate in the dry Barrens of the Frontier Planet. While searching for them, however, you meet a lot of Mercenaries in the Employment of the Businessman that originally gave you the Mission that led you first to Khoram's Planet. If you already did Kara's Loyalty Mission(s) at that Point, you may recognize him as a Member of the Corporation that is a main Rival of the Sionis-Family. The Mafia Princesses approve if you tell him off, with only Alexej against that.
The Tension comes to a Head when you found the Drell Settlers and attempt to bring them off Planet. However, they reveal that the Businessman originally bought off the whole Planet and tried to enslave them - which is why they want to flee and find a new Homeworld for the Drell Race. The Businessman will have his Mercenaries lock down your Ship on the Ground and personally come over to you to offer up a Deal, in good Spirits as he reassures:
- The Player can sell out the Drell Settlers to the Businessman:
This does not go down as planned. You will have to kill all of the Drell, as well as Khoram who sides with them without a Doubt. You will not get Credits thus. This allows you to kill the Businessman with an Interrupt afterwards or to let him go. Either Way, Khoram and the Drell were killed by your Hands and you gained nothing.
- The Player can refuse.
This secures Khoram's Loyalty and forces a Fight against the Mercenaries and the Businessman. Then you can take off in your Ship, with the Drell, who will leave after you visit a Hub World next Time. Later, you may get a small Side Mission to deliver Supplies to their new Frontier World so they can build up a Settlement.
A loyal Khoram will be more outgoing and friendly towards the Crew, even taking Time with each of them to understand what they are going for. This makes him one of the most popular Squadmates over Time, as he even gets through the Barriers of People like Jaya, who despised him early on. However, there is still one Question left that he has for the Player and that is what they think would be good Homeworld for his People. The Player can recommend one of three World, a Virmire-like Beach World, a Jungle World or another barren World. The Mini-Side Mission about where to deliver the Supplies changes Location according to that.
Romance:
Khoram can be flirted with at any Time and is romanceable for female Players under the following Circumstances: A) He is loyal.
The Player continuously supported the little People during the Game. C) The Player recommended the barren World for his People to settle on. If A) is not fulfilled, he will not brush the Player off, but state he has more immediate Things with his Future to think about. If
is not fulfilled, he will consider the Player not his Type and be rather cold about this. If C) is not fulfilled, he says they can't enter a Relationship, since the Player does not understand what it means to be with a Drell. Kepral is still a Thing, you know? However, if everything is right, he might want to commit to a Relationship, even physical. However, he will decline if the Player had previously had a Fling.
Others: I originally wanted to make a female Drell, but as I thought about it, I couldn't really imagine how they'd look like. So I stayed with a male Drell.
