That is a good point as well. Also she's using human armor in Mass Effect 3 if you have the From Ashes DLC installed. The commando armor she can wear from that has an Alliance logo on it.

*Liara and Tali*

Isn't she at that Point working for the Alliance? Or am I remembering wrong why she actually was on Mars?

She is...but since Asari can wear armor designed for humans (ME1 & ME3), and are unable to wear armor designed for Turians, Quarians, or Krogan (ME1), it is one of the things that debunks them doing some sort of mental shape-shifting routine.

Not if only their facial features change as a result of this psychic manipulation.

I covered that in my previous post...

Film exists in the Mass Effect universe. If the Asari were capable of doing some sort of indoctrination to make other people see them in a different form, it would only work with people that had actually met Asari. That isn't the case for about 90% of humanity, which still lives on Earth. They'd be seeing the true form of the Asari on the nightly news or in movies. In LotSB Shepard can also see Asari he or she has never met in the Shadow Broker's video archives, and they don't look different from other Asari. The stone carvings of primitive Asari in the temple of Athame on Illium also show them in their familiar forms. The same is also true for the sign for the Chora's Den, which is in the shape of an Asari.

If the Asari were doing some sort of mental shape-shifting it would also make it impossible for any doctor that isn't an Asari to treat an Asari patient, but from Huerta Memorial we know that isn't the case.

It's a joke, the writers were poking fun at the obvious plot hole that asari look nothing like all the other races yet they're supposed to find them hot.

Been thinking every race perceives them differently and they do have a Telepathic ability...

What if they look like this

Wait, Drell were made for female fanbase? Damn, missed something. Garrus is hot, not this weird one which blinks in that very wrong way.

Also, I really liked how elves looked like in DA2. I romanced Merril (too skinny in bed tho).

But do we need all old races in Andromeda? I would understand all those thug races like Batarians and Krogans but other have no reasons to come here. Also, we will get new race, yes? Let's hope it's not another recolored human. I want something like Na'vi. ^^

How is Na'vi recolored human? If that's how you think human looks like, I have bad news for you. Actually good. You live in different universe.

Oh come on, they're a little taller and have a strange face. Also, they're blue and ears. They're as close to recolored human as you're going to get.

If you say so then Drells are recolored human as well. Every rance that has skin isn't recolored human. They have whole different proportions, different skull - their faces are far less human then drells'. Also, they use tails to gain mental conection with trees. Na'vi are shaved cats with humanoid posture. They are as far as we can get from humans without making every unit of race looking almost the same. Because that's problem of other races - it's hard to make any difference among them while Na'vi look differently.

It's like when that late Batarian barman says humans all look the same.

When we first played Mass Effect, back in the day, we were probably impressed with all the aliens. But were they really alien as alien should be? Does that thematically fit with the core theme of exploring strange new cultures?

Let's consider.

KROGAN: Yes, seem mostly alien, pretty different. Fleshed out nicely in ME3 genophage cure arc. Kind of fleshed out in ME2 Tuchanka hub.

TURIAN: Yes. They have distinct physical appearance as well. Different means of conducting selves. Fleshed out kind of with Palaven and Tuchanka missions in ME3. Also Turian Sentinel.

VORCHA: Yes, inhuman mook things to shoot. Nuff said. No need to try and understand these. Could be fleshed out more instead of just mostly a codex entry.

VARREN: Yes. Slimy lizard dogs with great intelligence.

HANAR: Yes, space jellyfish cultist things

VOLUS: Yes, amonia based lifeforms with a simialarity to all of us: they like money too, just like us.

ELCOR: Yes, Slow talking elephant-dog hybrid things.

BATARIANS: Yes, Arrival, Colonist and Ruthless backgrounds, BringDownTheSky, that mission with the javelin missiles, several Shepard-batarian interactions that can result in usage of high velocity projectiles.

SALARIANS: Yes, lizard people. For real.

GETH: Yes, robot things that keep getting brainwashed to do the Reaper's dark bidding. Oh yes.

Let's get to the offenders, shall we?

DRELL(Thanks to QMR): "the female fapbait equivalent" with exposed pecs, super masculinity, and frog eyes that stare into your soul. Not actually a super serial offender at all, really!

QUARIANS: Mostly alien, a bit sexualized with seductive positional posing. Nothing too much there raising a red flag, but female quarians then take the cake with massively oversized hips. Intended to garner interest from ME1 fan reaction to Tali possibly. Led to the Tali Sweat thread. Of only questionable moderate offense.

ASARI: Blue skinned alien space babes that happen to exemplify every attractive female trait in humans. Because they're totally not meant as sex symbols. The previous statment is a bunch of hooey and a half gnawed on by a grundsau. The visual design of Asari suggests that the entire intent of them orignally was to play entirely into this trope because you love the asari, don't you? Yes, everyone loves the Asari. But does that allow the attempts to flesh them out to actually bear fruit? The issue here is that unless something changes, Asari will be thought of first as blue alien space babes and not as aliens.

Which is why I propose the following:

I'm glad I could "acquire" the following image.

1311982839703.jpg

And to answer the question?

Greatness happened.

This is exactly what should happen to the Asari. They'll look even more alien and exotic to their fanbase, and they'll seem more plausible to all of us.

*yawn*

I don't see what's so great about the redesigned elves of DA2. They look horrible to me.

The Asari are great as they are. Whining and "waifu-wars" aside, if you look past the "fapbaiting", the explanations for the similarities to humans actually makes sense.

You *would* expect from the Prothean empire to design races according to their whims, or just play with genetics out of boredom.

And not design them according to their own appearance?

I mean, otherwise that would mean the Protheans that engineered them had some weird fetishes.

There are more considerations for an alien geneticist designing new races than merely producing the best sex toy for his race.

I believe that in the ME universe the Protheans either made or changed the humans to suit a future role of a client race.

They probably streamlined many races into a relatively similar look: Humans, Asari, Batarians, Drell, Quarians, perhaps even Turians,

and planned for them to fill different roles in their empire.

The Asari were probably meant to fill a higher position or caste within the Prothean system, based on their long life-span, natural biotics,

and their melding ability - that in a way - is somewhat similar to the way Protheans are supposedly able to do psychometry.

The logic behind not making them all look like Protheans is very simple: The Protheans are to remain the "Gods" of their time, the "lesser" races should not look the same as them.
