Asari have been redesigned in the same vein as Dragon Age's elves.

I think that most alien races in ME are too humanoid, and should be re-designed. Right now they look like humans in costumes.
I agree, that's the reason I like to theorize that the Protheans simply designed or changed everyone.

Everything looks human in a costume if humans design it to be relateable with them. Deal with it. When you are going to play a game designed by aliens do please call me. Heck even good old Star Trek aliens were humans with something different.

Some asari, like Samara, Morinth or Benetia (except her voice) are ok because they represent very different personalities than the conventional asari chick. I especially like Samara as for me she is the only asari that look really alien (her face, voice, theme, etc., not considering bewbz here). Other asari might just be normal women.

Maybe some asari want to be normal alien women. How being normal is just a human thing?

You can see that salarians don't act like normal men, neigher krogan nor turians. Why asari? That is the thing, they don't look alien because they are too human, which is the point.

I cannot just deal with it, because this makes such story much less immersive than it could be with truly diverse aliens. I just cannot take these "cospay aliens" seriously anymore.
In other words - Rachni are really good example of aliens for me, while Asari or Turians - are bad examples.

Again I saw plenty of salarians/drell/turians having normal "human" behaviours in the game (smoking, going to the disco, party and have fun) heck you had the krogan poet on Ilium.

I would actually love to have a Rachni companion; like a young queen or something. Aside from bringing a nice bit of variety to combat, it would be nice to have a squad mate that would expand on the alien side of the setting and didn't bombard you with tales of a troubled childhood, about how much they hate their father, or how they are struggling with [insert current hot topic social issue here].

Yup you would have plenty of trash talk about their singing and how they are discordance within them....how their children listen to them and so on so forth.....fun...REALLY fun. I can't state enough how glad I'm none of you design this game.

In P&P RPGs I found really alien options for characters rather problematic. You have to devote o much time to think about the differences that often you are not playing Kl´Klikkt the rachni warrior but the rachni. I mean your species as a defining trait becomes dominant, not your background or character. And there are some problems with really different aliens. Can I fit through this door for example or can I use this tool?
In case of squadmates, dialogue would probably concentrate more on the species and less on the character. XY the exposition mouthpiece.

Lots of people loved Legion despite the fact that it was a literal non character (no really "we are a terminal for the geth") and every single dialouge with it in ME2 (other than the nonsensical armor piece exchange) was simply exposition for the non-Heretic geth. Bases on that, I don't think that a rachni companion would necessarily be unpopular simply because it isn't all that relatable by human standards, though recurring characters may suffer from being limited to the exposition trope due to the difficulty of actually writing alien perspectives, especially considering thay Bioware didn't even manage to write the humanoid aliens consistently according to the characteristics of their species (Wrex, Liara and Tali being prime examples).

QUARIANS: Mostly alien, a bit sexualized with seductive positional posing. Nothing too much there raising a red flag, but female quarians then take the cake with massively oversized hips. Intended to garner interest from ME1 fan reaction to Tali possibly. Led to the Tali Sweat thread. Of only questionable moderate offense.
The Asari's are fine they have become a symbol for Mass Effect
DO NOT TOUCH THE QUARIANS! I will target the Halo rings at your house if you want them to be re-designed! if they show a face properly then no problem but a total re-design?

Ehh tbh I was always thinking that part of the love Legion had was because many people hated Quarians and Talimancers thus making their killers popular. I'm not really a big fan of Legion and how they handled the Geth, I still prefer ME1 Geth, mysterious and deadly machines not the victimized version we have in ME3. I'm not really the guy to speak about Legion as in my canon playthough I gave Legion to Cerberus and in ME3 supported Admiral Gerrel in his war of annihilation of the rebellious machines. It felt good to me. Organics good vs Synthetics bad
On a general note I agree with BW difficulty to write consistently even the humanoid aliens and you think they would do better for the more exotic type of aliens? Let's be honest as pointed out by yourself they would be limited by their extreme alieness and difficulty to relate and evolve a relation with them that changes over time. Let's just stick to the basic and do that right.

I was one of those people that like Legion in ME 2.
Yeah, it was essentially a walking, talking Codex entry, but at least Legion offered something that approached an alien perspective; which of course was all jettisoned out the airlock come ME 3.
Having a companion fall under the exposition troupe is a necessary evil (IMO), its the price I would be willing to pay if it meant that we could get something like a Rachni companion.

There's an aesthetic issue here. Geth - and Legion - have an ultimately bipedal and humanoid build. The rachni are giant insects.

In ME1 the geth were also portrayed as victims. Sure. They were fodder enemies for Saren. But in dialogue with Tali all of your options sided against the Quarians as perpetrating a genocide against the Geth. The most supportive option Shepard had vis-a-vis the Quarians was - after Tali calls you out on how her people were effectively massacred - to say she might have a point. You also, I believe, imply the Quarians were slavers.

I think what bugs me the most about the Asari is that they have the exact same eyes as the hummenz until they do the whole mind molestation thing. . .I kinda wish they had different, non-human eyes at the very least. Squid heads and no-ears aren't enough.
