Asari have been redesigned in the same vein as Dragon Age's elves.

I imagine he wouldn't have sweat glands. When it gets too hot, Thane probably just sits with his mouth open to let out excess heat.

I dislike the Asari, because they were specifically created as fanservice only towards straight male fans.

Do you dislike James Vega, Cullen, Iron Bull, and Dorian because they were created specifically as a fanservice to straight females / gays?

The Asari were created way back, probably years before ME1 came out.

It was rather obvious at the time that ME is the kind of game that had a target demographic that was dominated by straight male fans.

Why *wouldn't* a developer try to "pander" to it's main audiance?

(Even today straight males are probably the biggest demographic for ME-type games.)

But no matter the reason that led to the creation of the Asari, the fact is that they developed throughout the story,

and we met some very interesting, non-stereotipically-Asari characters during that time.

Whatever they were before, they are now a legitimate and inextricable part of the ME universe.

Regarding the Drell, while success is debatable, it's obvious that the intention was to create a female-targeted eye-candy.

The drell do sweat. It's why he has a boob window, so sweat moisture doesn't buildup on his chest.

Sweating though scales seems…problematic.

As for Drell…I don't even want to think about it. I hate even typing this, but I keep getting this feeling that Thane would smell like an aquarium full of iguanas and would have that spiky scaly feeling if you rubbed your hand the wrong way.

Lmao I know right? I simply can't understand why some people here think girls would be physically attracted to lizard-like aliens? Just because the one Drell main character in the games has a "manly" lone cowboy personality? Yeah no.

Like I explained in that post, I don't dislike the Asari solely because they pander to a certain audience, I dislike the fact that only that audience was taken into account when designing the game. Of course I'm not surprised a video game is primarily trying to please its male fans but that doesn't mean I have to approve of it. I also mentioned that I like most of the Asari characters individually, it's the purpose of the race as a whole I dislike. Anyway, like you said it's been almost a decade since the first game was released so I'm expecting better from Bioware this time around, whatever they choose to do with the Asari.

Oh c'mon. Changing something that important to this universe would only cause shitstorm. I know that, you know that and BW knows that.

I think they were mostly ok, imo.

Some characters did seem a Little weird, or overdone or overly sexualized.

Geth getting brain washed was kind of pointless to bring up since every species was gettign brainwashed and reaperized by the Reapers. Indoctrinated people, Cerberus(reaperized), husks of every species, indoctrinated agents of every species.

Overall, I didn't have much of a problem with the characters in general, though some story moments were somewhat lacking or could have been more realistic. The mass Effect series had lots of good story tellign thoguh, even if there are a few places where i personaly would have liked to see something lightly more interesting or modified.

The Asari, however were ok imo.

Are you kidding me with the last part? You can't even compare them. The Asari look just like human females with blue skin and tentacle things instead of hair to make them look vaguely "alien". The Drell are weird lizard-looking humanoids. What features exactly are supposed to make them look attractive? That slit on their chest that looks more like a surgical scar than pecs? Their "frog eyes that stare into your soul" according to the OP (wtf??)?

The entire race of Drell actually were invented by Bioware to appeal to female audiences, they flat out said so. I can't find the actual interview it was stated in, but it's quoted in the wiki.

"The creation of the Drell species was the outcome of designing a male alien love interest that was required to be an attractive and stealthy assassin. The appearance of the resulting character, Thane Krios, then formed the basis of the design for other members of the drell species."

And Thane was kinda popular romance option. So it worked.

I was under the impression that he actually wasn't all that popular, considering the treatment his character got right along with Jacob (though the latter is much worse), but then FemShep has few options in ME2, with Garrus being the sole solid option.

That was a major fail then.

It's not like there were a lot of options for FemShep. As ugly as Thane was his story was more interesting than the ridiculously bland and uninteresting Jacob.

They can easily find a reason for asari redesign. They can't make asari-asari baby because they can't reproduce but asari-nonasari baby might cause DNA evolving and BAM, asari don't look so asari. But I don't really mind their look. Every asari but Samara looked pretty ugly for me. Even those ones in skimpy outfits looked bad because their butts and breasts were saggy. The only question is here if we want to keep alien looking like human with tentacle wig.

That is simply stupid. Changing a beloved race because the sjw crowd find them offending/Stupid [insert what whine you prefer] is just so wrong on multiple levels.

Ask for your own race instead of demanding to change something many of us appreciate and love. Asaris the way they are part of ME.  Deal with it.

Ask for a new race whose specific met your prejudices and ideologies and leave what made ME till now as it is. Thank you.

The actual... I don't need another race. I'd like asari to be another race instead of being blue humans. How is this SJW? It's nothing about social justice.

Well that is how asari are so they aren't going to change them just because YOU don't like them. A lot of people like them as they are.

On another topic regarding the asari:

Fearing the possibility of birthing Ardat-Yakshi, I wonder how the asari will convince other races to breed with them since those races need to concentrate on building their own populations. Are they going to try to homewreck some krogan, turian, salarian, quarian, and human families. I doubt an asari wants to face an angry krogan or turian woman.

Find someone willing and unmarried, then raise the kid in your own family instead. Krogans and salarians don´t have human family units anyways. Even if the genophage is cured, it´s a good question, wether the krogans would implement a one male-one female family system. Probably not. With that amount of kids, two providers for so many dependants wouldn´t work.

If the salarians keep the 90 to 10 male to female ratio, there are enough males to share. Even if not, they still don´t have families.

Oh Andromeda will be a fun galaxy, krogans (if cured) and salarians dominate by population numbers, the rest eh, yeah, you can have some planets, too.

Could be that quarians with their focus on the community wouldn´t mind so much if they consider asari as part of "the fleet." Bang the asari, it´s community service and good for the fleet. ;)

Yes the Asari should be changed like DA elves, whiny, going extinct, and hunted for sport by their social betters!

There's an entire new galaxy and you want the same old races? It's probably going to be a small human crew and the rest will be all newbies.

Well, Krogan are confirmed to appear...and as far as I know they showed cg models of an asari and a salarian on some private fan panel.

A lot of the details from that supposed leak of a Pax fan panel line up with details from the later leak that spoiled the Andromeda setting, so I think its looking legit.

I have no problems with old races being in the game, but definitely don't want them all to be old races. I mean if the ship we're on is a mission from the Council or something I can see it having multiple species. But I'd like the majority of the squadmates to be from the new races.

According to the leaks there are two new species, one of which is hostile.

Of course, grain of salt & all that.

Seems likely. I doubt BioWare would introduce new species and have both be hostile.
