Indeed, the salarians love themselves some potentially dangerous biological research. I wouldn't be surprised if they brought their Yahg along with them as well.

I don't think there is any real reason to exclude any established species apart from laziness (and wouldn't really want any excluded).

Liked for this.

I'm just postulating on which would need the biggest asspulls. Rachni are at the top of that list, followed by geth, then batarians, quarians and drell are all about even.

Nah the Rachni, have the best chance of making it to the next game compared to all the others you listed. They survived the attempted genocide of two separate cycles; one being the 'pro-tier' Prothans; and they eluded Reaper detection of the previous cycle (relatively) unscathed.

I think that it would be more than reasonable to assume that the Queens from the Rachni Wars would have sent out more than one ship with a single egg in order to preserve the species. Plus you have the Salarians, there is more than enough genetic material left from Peak 15 on Noveria and the Queen/Not-Queen (if the player kills her) for the them to bring back the species; I mean they were able to bring back dinosaur horses for the Krogan to ride off of a 2,000 year old fossil. The Rachni have penchant for survival out of proportion to their depiction in the trilogy.

They're like cockroaches that way.

Rachni aren't animals... and the queens store their memories in the genetic material... trying to clone Rachni from the leftovers at Peak 15 or from the Reaper version is not going to end well. Think Species, just a hundred times worse. :P

Considering how old the Rachni actually are as a civilization (at least from the Prothean cycle and possibly earlier if we go with the Leviathan speculation), they could have made the trip ages ago even. Wouldn't be too far fetched. The primary possible issue is making them allies with the other species from the get go, since that would imply a canon. Same issue as with the geth and batarians, in other words.

For the record, I'm not completely against a canon that would just let everyone survive and enable them to participate. The only exception would be I don't like the Reaper code geth at all, but hopefully they'd retcon them back to their ME1-ME2 status and leave it ambiguous as to whether they are the same geth that were around in the Reaper war (due to the destroy ending) or some newer creations.

Please. Species has nothing on the Rachni.

The Queen doesn't need us to reproduce, and her biological clock is just fine thank you very much.

Very true. I suppose the Rachni's unique nature would set them apart from the rest of galactic society.

Still it would be nice to encounter something that is drastically different from us and not immediately have it hostile to our way of life.

I am with on this 100%. I want the 'alien' Geth back, not the Pinocchio wannabes with narrative whitewashing on their side.

It's just human(oid) nature. If they can't even get along with or trust one another, than space bugs have an even bigger mountain to climb. I'm not against conflict, but having means to also forge alliances with such species should be there if they aren't directly antagonistic. I quite liked being able to have the rachni at my back (though I didn't really like the implementation of the decisions which resulted in that taking place, too much power in the PC's hands).

The geth just went completely off the rails. I wouldn't be sad at all to see their entire ME3 (and certain ME2 elements like Legion's N7 armor sentimentality) implementation thrown out of the airlock along with a retcon of the entire nonsense Reaper code plot device.

Agreed.

I have always postulated that this was Mass Effect's biggest problem. We should have never been put in a place to decide the fate of an entire species, or to alter the face the entire galaxy. You can't make any meaningful choices out of stuff like that; unless of course you are only dealing with a one shot adventure.

The choice on Noveria should have been the player choosing to call in Council Hunter-Killer squads (Renegade) or let the Queen slip quietly away and then report after returning to the Normandy (Paragon). The queen should have escaped regardless of the player's choice, its just that your actions would determine how trusting the Rachni would be in the future.
