A couple of questions to players with regards to Double EXP weekend

This isn't a question about the event itself, more than it is about the rate of progression with the double EXP gains and how players were impacted by it; in terms of enjoyment. Did you all feel as though it felt more natural when the double EXP bonus was applied, did you not think that much about it, or was it something you found unnecessary? Lastly: Do you think the double exp bonus should become a permanent increase (not just weekly), or should there be happy middle ground between the current rate of exp gains and the double exp bonus (or maybe no permanent exp increase at all)?

TBH, when playing double EXP weekend I had the most amount of fun seeing my character progress in a long time (save for dealing with the undead creatures), and I felt that I wasn't just gaining levels at a painfully slow rate. It made playing certain classes like the Assassin, Alchemist, or Hunter more enjoyable, since it was much faster getting the necessary abilities I needed; rather than it being a boring task. With that said, I don't think I'd go for double exp across the board, but maybe somewhere in between (1.4x maybe?).

First, they need to "normalize" XP generation. I mean, a Keeper can easily get 10K XP by simply existing while an Assassin will kill 90% of the crowd and still get 2K. Fix that first, so every character are able to easily generate the same amount of XP.

After that, if you really need an XP boost then OK I'm all for it. But my guess is that after they fix the low XP characters, you won't need the double XP boost anymore.

Damn near forgot about their issue with gaining XP.

Between Thursday and Monday I promoted 22 times.
In the 3 weeks leading up to patch I only promoted half a dozen times coz I couldn't find games.
This promotion boost was not only fun, it also gave me the boost I needed to clear NM stress free and get my first complete in HB.
I now find grinding Perilous for lvls unrewarding!! lol
I don't think it should be a permenant fixture but would love to see it as a weekend/fortnightly norm, even if it was only a x1.5 bonus.

I'll chime in again with my suggestion. Add an ambush xp bonus for killing enemies shortly after exiting stealth. This would also help the hunter and alchemist who are also on the lower end of the xp spectrum (especially hunter).

I prefer that you still get promotions at 20. I freaking hate the promotion system at all. Starting from level 1 again and again because without that you have NO progression at all.

I did enjoy going from 1-20 in a single game. I liked it alot but I don't think it should be an everyday thing. Maybe every other weekend or something

Managed to gain a nice 20 promotions from this event.  Since I generally PuG, I found the leveling process to be less painful from lvl 1 which meant more time playing at a difficulty level more suited to my level of promotions and gear.

I like promoting characters but I'd rather stay playing in a difficulty level thats appropriate rather than being railroaded into threatening for even routine just to gain a couple of levels as a courtesy to access higher difficulties in PuGs (that loading screen needs to be updated where it recommends character levels per difficulty - nowadays, a lot of enemy monsters are just hitting me for single digits)

Best part about it was getting from 1 to 20 in 2 rounds of perilous. Every time 2 people would promote the other 2 would have characters at level 16 to carry the other 2. 1 promotion per 20 minutes is a pretty nice pace. Though imo it's best suited for weekend events. If this was the usual pace we'd all be rocking +100 stats in a week or 2.

Hi there, good fun yesterday. Hope they repeat the double xp event fairly regularly. I need it far more than you do :)

Hi, some fun runs yesterday.  Good to see you again, glad we got teamspeak sorted - much clearer than the native voice chat.

Hope we'll get another XP event and that it gets communicated more effectively as it's a rather huge incentive for players to get back into the game (Diablo 3 tends to make a homepage announcement when these occur) - instead, I ended up finding out by about it here on a different thread as if it was added as an afterthought.

I felt it was meant as more of a reward to the people that already play the game, rather than a "come back to DA" incentive.

I had no idea about it until I saw my levels go up faster then came on to forums to see why  :D  It was a nice thing to do.

Nothing wrong with it being announced in advance of course.

It was fore sure more fun. If not permanent double xp, I wish they would at least make final levels not such a drag. Once I hit level 15, I feel like dead fish gasping for bubbles of air.

Play Nightmare at 15.  You will either gasp in the fade or hit 20 fast.

At the start of the event every one of my characters was level 1. After about a dozen games they were all at around level 15 and I'd had enough. So... it was a nice bonus but didn't do that much for me.

How about bonus XP for new players so they can get a few promotions under their belt? Start playing at 2x XP. After 10 promotions it drops to 1.9x. After 20 it drops to 1.8x. And so on until you hit 100 promotions and stay at 1x XP.

As an occasional player I find that every time I hop on for a few games my friends have pulled another 10-20 promotions ahead of me. Combine that with the new weapons they have and I struggle to get kills.

It usually goes something like this. I run up to a group of enemies with my Legionnaire and just as I raise my Firm Tournament Axe above my head some Duelist fires Broadsides over my shoulder and kills the entire spawn. This is repeated for 15 minutes. By the end of the game I'm bored and I go play something else.

Yeah, heaven forbid, the rest of us get to play the same game as the no lifers.

One perilous game and two nightmare games can get you from lvl 1 to 20.

I am yet to set my foot into Nightmare. You know what happens with dead fish if you throw it into Nightmare? It turns into dead whale. Watching you from fade from very immodest angles... pervygermaniaplz.png?1

The most enjoyable part of double XP is going from lvl 1 to 15 in one run. At 15, most builds are fun and/or viable.

3 runs per promotion was great, don't get me wrong.

But I would be just as happy with regular XP and having to do 5-8 runs for a promotion, as long as I was lvl 15 with 1 lvl one run. Being lvl 1-11 is boring and tedious.

It's kinda why I support having abilities coming earlier into the character trees; though I'm sure that's a piece of work in and of itself.

Keep it on the roster as a weekend event option. I'd rather have something that like to look forward to or be surprised. If people are reporting 30-50 promotes in just 3 days... What do you think would happen given a week of that? A month? Even hearbreaker would soon become trivial. Keep it as an event to maintain the stable game progression already in place.

Some passives are important for class enjoyment too. Assassin without IWNH passive ruins stealth builds. But in general I agree with you about abilities coming earlier. Some people have proposed a horizontal skill tree that sounded kind of interesting

I'm with you on that one. Even when running perilous, it can take a while getting to lv20. After the double XP weekend, leveling up with the standard amount of XP feels like a slog.
