How do you keep your motivation high?

Do you still mostly play one character or do you switch them frequently?

Do you still experiment?

Do you get your motivation out of different Teams and different people you play with?

Or special occasions like Tournaments

Out of higher difficulties (for example make Platinum to your default difficulty)

Or out of Challenges?

Or still grind for something?

Or still try to improve your skill?

When I started I usually sticked with ONE character - each a couple of hundred hours.

Drell Vanguard --> Drell/Geth Infiltrator --> Human Adept --> ///////

then I came to a point where I started experimenting with most other characters

TODAY I often get a new idea for a certain  setup / Kit / weapon / combination

when I am working and then I really look forward to getting home and try this out ;-)

But most of the time I have my 3-4 favourite characters that I take turns with and play a couple of matches in the evenings with.

I am glad though that these 3-4 characters have changed a lot over time - and still do change.

Also, when I meet new people I play with,   I notice that it can be a huge boost to motivation.

The store keeps me motivated to not play.  Retirement is bliss!

That, and the game is pretty damn old now.  There's nothing really left to achieve...

Small or large retirement breaks. Or playing the whole Trilogy in single player mode again (what I'm doing right now) also greatly increases my interests in ME3mp (since gameplay is so poor in sp & and much easier/no challenge at all, greatly making me crave mp). Not being able to play as other races in sp is another reason too.

Otherwise, on the mp side of things, it's playing with setups that don't completely dominate the game. Part of the reason I enjoy playing with the weakest and crappiest pugs I can find, while others complain about how they can't stand to play with such weak pathetic pugs.

Not really being interested in new games and not really gaming all that much keeps me interested

Like for this alone.

i rotate every game when pugging or with friends, or solo or try to progress on one thing (like aiming heads, or aim tracking). New builds idea often come from here, lately the melee drellguard or the 100% sabotage QFI :D. I ll soon try the melee qfi which does some insane damage.

I like most kits and play them all. I tend to stick to good/OP weapons though.

In fact it never changed after the first few months where i only played the novaguard and then the SI

Define good OP weapons. ie. Is Indra among them?

And what about weapons like Locust, Carnifex, GPR, Revenant, Argus, Striker, CAR, Graal?

All fun, and most of them are pretty good, if you know what you're doing. Locust, Striker, Carnifex, Graal are all OP on the right kit.

Disclaimer: I have never managed to make the Argus fun. I finished the challenge and have never picked it up again.

They say the freaks come out at night, I personally see to that by logging on after 10pm ;)

Argus is one of those weapons I have to use some sort of stability on, either via Turian Passives or the stability module bonus or weapon mod. However, if you can make it headshot reliably, it is pretty fun.

I still haven't even used the Argus enough to compete the challenge

When you have Valkyrie X the argus kinda sucks

Yes, Argus needs to be perfectly stable for all 3 shots to land in the same melon spot to make this weapon any fun. But having said that. I'm not too crazy for it either.

The single, most important reason I love this game is variety - and that's the reason I still play the game, though not nearly as much as I used to.

I switch kits after almost every game. There are a handful of kits that I clearly favour, but also lots of kits I really dislike playing with - often because they're so cheesy and OP that I'd feel like I need to take a shower afterwards.

While I really like optimizing my builds to suit my playstyle, I very rarely just try to make a kit as powerful as it can possibly be. In most of my PUG games I'm running with some obviously non-optimal loadout ranging from Avenger FQE to Locust Justicar to Scimitar Senturian to Widow SE, and I love it when I'm able to be effective with a particular setup not because of what it does for me, but because of what I do with it.

I use a wide variety of weapons from common to UR, but I dislike weapons that are AOE, very inaccurate or require lots of trigger spamming (like most pistols). Just like with kits, there are also several weapons I generally don't touch, as I find them too cheesy for my taste - I like powerful weapons, but power needs to come with tangible drawbacks.

A major part of my enjoyment and motivation comes from improving my skills in one area or another, whether it's shooting accuracy or positioning and movement or something else. Ultimately I'm a man of simple pleasures such as headshots.

Oh, and I'll never get tired of Claymoaring, that goes without saying.

Agreed that it can be made to work well. I've just never seen the fun aspect, always found it a bit of a chore. But if you say it's fun, maybe I need to try it again with the AR Stability Mod, Barrage Upgrade and a Stability Bonus III on the TSol :P

That's also true, since the Valkyrie is lighter and even more effective in that niche.

As above, because Valkyrie, or Saber  which is even more fun.

^ Yes, Saber does it better and is more fun then Argus and Valkyrie for me too. But I also use stability help on Valkyrie and Saber as well, since all these weapons are headshot focus weapons.

I restarted my manifest, which is my current motivation. Though hitting the UR wall makes me wonder if I should just switch back to my original account.

This new playthrough has motivated me to try new characters/weapons, so that's been fun.

I think what's truly motivating me though is that there's nothing out there at the moment that makes me want to play something else, and I still genuinely enjoy playing this game.

Didn't I make this thread a couple of weeks ago?

How do you keep your motivation high?

Red Bull

Do you still mostly play one character or do you switch them frequently?

All of the above.

Do you still experiment?

Yes.

Do you get your motivation out of different Teams and different people you play with?

Yes, but my husband doesn't approve.

Out of higher difficulties (for example make Platinum to your default difficulty)

Played a Platinum PUG once. Landed in Condor with a level 8/N7 8 NovaGuard. Never again.

Or out of Challenges?

Or still grind for something?

I made that thread too

Or still try to improve your skill?

   ^_^  :)  :D
I'm going backwards not forwards!

I attended a sex therapy session with my wife for couples who have been married over 10 years.  It was supposed to teach us how to keep things fresh.

All except for the crossed out line were on the introductory questionnaire.  Do you happen to work for From Ball & Chainment To Hot Entertainment Therapists?

On topic, I find that making love to my wife motivates me to play video games.  Why, you may ask?  It's not because the buttons are easier to find on the controller, if that's what you think.  It's because every time it happens, one of the kids wakes up and interrupts us.  I guess that's a more evolved way of limiting competition than of pushing your siblings out of a nest, like Nazca Boobies do.  And yes, I responded to this thread with the sole goal of writing "boobies" appropriately in mind.

Dem boobies are pure danger!
