I've got to admit - I tend to find the hacking-style minigames in ME1 and ME2 somewhat tedious, but then I get to ME3 and find myself missing them.  I'm honestly hoping that they make their return in ME:A.  What do y'all think?

Minigames:  yay or nay?

If yay, what kind of game would you like to see?  I definitely prefer ME1's game and ME2's bypass game over ME2's hacking game, mostly because the latter gives me a headache.

I'd like for there to be a casino aboard out ship, with much better gambling mechanics than last time.

Yes please. They just need to be a bit more varied than the ones in me1 and me2. The same thing over and over does get tedious. But completely removing them was even worse :(

we had a mini-game in ME1 and ME2 ? I dont recall..

Hum....honestly , the only mini-game I would bother with is a card mini-game .

Take Mass effect 3 , they got ride of all kasumi furniture to put a lousy poker table YOU cant use . No..only one idiot can and during a cutscene and he has to be alive . Otherwise..it just sitting there...pissing you off .

GIVE ME BACK my bar......

Let me drink , let me get toasted...let me mix my drink and while you are at it...Put some music in there I can turn on and off !! And of course..it also mean Let me SIT at the bar......

No thank you!  I rather enjoyed not having to depend on how quickly I could maneuver a keyboard (or drive that danged mako) in order to succeed and/or move on to the next part of the adventure.  If they have to be there, then perhaps a casino like they did in the shore leave DLC.

Mass Effect had the Tower of Hanoi on Noveria, like many of BioWare's games; I am not certain if that counts as a minigame or not. Hacking was an optional minigame in ME1 though, which actually differed between the PC and Xbox versions. On the Xbox it was basically Simon Says, IIRC. The PC minigame was like Frogger.

Mass Effect 2 had a minigame on Tuchanka where you fired at little apelike pests. I can't remember how the hacking minigames went in ME2, or if they existed in ME2 or not.

Optional mini games like a casino: Yes please.

Mandatory mini games like decrypting, bypassing etc are so ME2, we don't need that crap again. :P

Mini-games for relaxation, immersion and killing time, they should not be essential for the game progress.

Dunno...I kinda liked them lol

I just wish they done it in a better fashion . Tie it to maybe your class? a techi would be able to hack....and get a better reward . I wouldn't mind opening crate instead .

Minigames are useful just to briefly break up gameplay and give you something different. I feel exploration will already do way more of that than I want. So I doubt it would be a good idea.

On the other hand, clever puzzles that naturally fit into the normal game interface would be pretty cool.

Yeah no. ME2's dull minigames were terrible and brought down the game.

The spaceship minigame is tedious as well and should be reconsidered.

Poker, and maybe a very quick hacking game for popping open doors. A less annoying version of the circuit puzzles from ME2, maybe, just for a taste of immersion. Nothing significant, though.

Gambling mini games again would be nice just add a few more of them on top of the ones we had already?

So you rather just watch the ominitool animation than actually try to hack stuff? They just need to get more creative with the minigames,I think they offer a very welcome change of pace. But I guess taste is taste lol

I didn't mind the ME2 mini games.  The Peak 15 one from ME1 though needs to stay away.

You mean reactivating Mira right? God I lost hours of my life trying to figure out that one... until I finally gave up and slapped Ominigel on it and moved on with no regrets lol

Precisely.

The mini games often interrupted the flow of the game.

At some points they weren't necessary, like claiming minerals in ME1. Why does that need to be decrypted? :P

I'll be the first to admit that the hacking minigames of ME1 and ME2 were pretty boring, but if they can design a good one (I'm assuming nobody here wants to see bad minigames), I wouldn't mind seeing a Deus Ex-like system whereby hacking and other game mechanics can be used to find noncombat resolutions to encounters (i.e. disabling alarms, cameras, etc.).

I remember thinking that playing through Samara and especially Thane's loyalty missions in ME2 was kinda tedious, because while it was cool that they wanted to design a mission that didn't emphasize violence, they just didn't have enough developed non-combat mechanics at their disposal to make the experience particularly dynamic. Following that Turian politician and pressing space bar every so often just didn't do it for me, sorry.

I actually was able to figure this out fairly quickly, but that's just because I recognized it as the well-known Tower of Hanoi puzzle. Bioware used it in Knights of the Old Republic as well.

That I agree. But they could put on a "arming a beacon" minigame, it would make way more sense. I mean, I liked the change of pace, but I agree that the lack of variety made them get old really fast.

Spoiler

Never played STKOR  I started playing bioware games with DA:O and ME1, basically wen I moved from the consoles to the PC. It looks like a great game, but from the videos I've seen the combat isn't exactly my cup of tea.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post :pinched:

BioWare was (in)famous for putting Towers of Hanoi into all their games, which is why they stopped. During the Citadel DLC of ME3 you find a Towers of Hanoi game in the arcade but Shepard refuses to play it. ^^
