Geth Engineer is by far my favorite kit to use the Saber on.

I don't care about dry tests. In real game the results are going to be a lot of missed shots even when you appear to hit

Watch carefully. He hits a lot, but almost every time he starts spamming it full ROF, he starts missing.

And that's d_naught, probably one of the best Saber users.

Only this guy can full ROF Saber and hit every shot as a headshot:

I was about to reply but then I saw Aedolon writing pretty much my thoughts. He's missing cause his aim is off. Happens to everyone if you're trying to fire at full MM rof. This doesn't mean that the gun isn't pretty much lazor accurate with that power.

Your claim was: "on MM kits it's too fast and you need to slow down, because the crosshair jaws spread like crazy and you start missing even at close range even though the reticle is right on the money". This is simply false, but for some reason you don't seem to be able to admit it.

I downloaded the video and watched the first couple of waves - important bits frame-by-frame. I'm not seeing any evidence of what you're saying. d_nought misses several times, but every time he does, it's because his aim isn't on target. I know how good he is, but even he's not perfect. Please give me a specific timestamp if you know for sure there's some weird stuff happening.

There are a couple of spots that are simply unclear in the video, and the reason for that is that the Youtube video has fixed 30 fps framerate, while the original video is probably recorded at higher but variable framerate.

And hell, of course d_nought keeps missing more when he turns MM on and starts spamming bullets. Less time to aim, what's so strange about that?

In any case, if your reticle is on target and you have MM on, you will hit the target; it's that simple. If you keep missing, it's not because the weapon has some weird spread, it's because your aim is off.

I play the game and I do solos a lot. Saber starts missing, period. The fixed Crusader hits where I aim every time, even with the recoil, but with Saber I get all sorts of weirdness. Either it doesn't register a hit or it misses, I dunno, but I'm telling you how it is  :) If I do a very slight pause between shots, everything is fine, but as soon as I go pedal to the metal with it it's not as good.

After several hours of mindnumbing wipes and a bucketful of Phantom and/or Dragoon excretions shoved down my throat, I managed to drag this kit all the way to the extraction with a decent time:

Quarksman:

16:32 | M-99 Saber | Glacier | Cerberus | PC | Alquinn

As is customary when the time is good, shooting is nothing spectacular.

In retrospect, I probably should've taken the evolution 4a of Marksman, since the reticle bloom is pretty significant and firing at maximum speed makes all the shots following the first one rather inaccurate. As result of that, I often slowed down shooting in favour of higher accuracy.

Protip: with this setup it is, in fact, quite efficient to prioritize killing Assault Troopers during early waves (priority order being Guardian>Assault Trooper>Nemesis>Centurion).

Although most people I see using the TGI use either the Harrier, Lancer, or PPR, I prefer the Saber on that kit.  Probably my favorite kit for the gun.

It has near perfect synergy. Overload for stagger and headshot in cloak will kill any mob.

Try recording your games and check them afterwards (frame by frame) when you feel that kind happening. A lot can happen in a frame or two that a human eye won't notice. I bet it's just your own perception combined with confirmation bias.

I don't solo, but I play the game, and I can't agree with your experience. When my shots miss, it's because the reticle was off target - I know because I've checked my performance from video.

Heldarion, in this case, is simply mistaken. Maybe he hasn't done any "shooting range" tests, and it's easy to mistake Saber's recoil for subpar accuracy anyway. Also, the reticle does bloom even under MM, but the bullets will fly straight regardless.

Even if it is the recoil, that means you have to apply breaks when using it in MM  :)

Well, recoil certainly makes aiming more difficult, I don't disagree with that. Of course it can be negated, entirely or in part.

Personally I don't often slow down because recoil forces me to adjust my aim between shots, I pause when I switch targets or when I time my shots with my target's movement animations. And yeah, I do miss quite a lot, I'm no Heldarion or d_nought. Or Jay.

So it was jut the recoil messing with my aim all along? Makes sense.

I used the Saber on the Salarian Infiltrator when it was one of my only URs. I use it on both the SI & SE because Energy Drain complements the Saber's greatest weakness: removing shields & barriers. Naturally then, Overload characters are also good candidates if you don't want to go the generic MM & HM route.

With that said, the Quarksman & Geth Engineer with the Saber are a match made in heaven.

For those of you that suggested the GE, how would you spec him, specific to using the Saber?

Honestly, I literally never change anything on this class, he's kind of my anti-Cerberus bullshit class. I always run Disruptor Falcon, b/c staggers are everywhere. Usually carry my trusty Executioner for armored foes, when needed.

My build is similar, though I often spec for double-chain Overload for less shield damage but greater CC. Generally I take Assault Loadout instead of Barrage Upgrade, TCPs give you a great damage boost if you use them smartly - and it's especially useful if you end up on Dagger Hazard.

There's little difference between 46664 and 36665, the first one requires more turret micromanagement, but could be considered more team-friendly. In fact, you can distribute points between Turret and Fitness any way you like, it really is about personal preference more than anything else; no-turret and no-fitness both work just fine.

The important bits are HM (BBA), Overload (AAx) and passive (ABB).

Overload 6 shield damage is very important, especially against cerberus, as it lets you one-shot phantoms barriers ;) One chain evolution is enough for CC, at least for me.

I agree with the part in bold but, to one-cast destroy a gold Phantom's barrier, you need to take all the powers damage evos.

But Overload 6B alone isn't enough, you need other power damage evos or a power amp.

I switch between 6A and 6B all the time though, and they both work just fine. I generally don't have any particular problems with Phantoms with this setup. I totally understand if you prefer 6B, but I wouldn't call it "very important".

I do take a power amp against cerberus. And also in general, if I know I'm not gonna lag much. And the difference between one shotting phantoms barriers or not is quite significant, at least to me.

Sure, it makes sense in that context, and I know you often like to use Saber specifically against Cerberus.

Personally I play this setup lobby set to U/U more than 95% of the time and I rarely host. Makes little sense to take a power amp mostly just for Phantoms; ability to take some hits is generally more helpful. And it's not like you never go down either. ;)

So yeah, if Phantoms are a primary concern, 6B is probably a better choice, I wouldn't disagree with that (at least it gives you the option to take the power amp). But with 6A Phantoms still aren't any sort of weakness for this setup, it just takes another shot to finish them off. A long time ago Saber GE was one of my top 3 go-to kits on Plat, and I never found killing Phantoms difficult (though they're always nasty when they're shooting at you, of course).

Killing them is easy. Getting them to hold still, not so much. Avoiding being killed by them first...well, that's the sticking point for most players.

As I mentioned earlier, that's why I set up my GE the way I did, Disruptor Falcon GE trivializes Phantoms. Falcon stagger, Overload stagger, TB stagger...you see where I'm going with this.

OL don't stagger phantoms at all.
