That's a physical presence sort of playtest? For US residents only?

Whether it is or not I still feel it's pretty cool that the game is in a good and advanced enough state that they can hold public playtest focus groups
.

Hopefully this mean we'll see gameplay sooner rather than latter.

Focus groups always worry me. I've been in many, and the extent to which people don't even seem to know their own preferences is astounding.

That link looks weird to me.
The link displayed in the post is not the link your browser executes. Or at least not the only one. What the hell is MailChimp? ![]()
Claims to go to eaca.co1.qualtrics.com but loads easports.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d2340f3ed85918f15a45d8f8&id=c4b677a9aa&e=f3afc9a865 first.
I haven't detected any virus, malware or other malicious code but it creates a cookie named Avesta Environment. I suspect someone is collecting tracking information or generating clicks for something. I could dig deeper but I don't have the time to drag up site owners and crap like that. ![]()

It was on earlier, but has obviously been filled. It's legit as all the emails I get from EA for playtesting are the same. But then you don't have to take my word for it.
(here's another example)

I have a feeling it's just really popular.

EA uses MailChimp to send out those emails.
"You probably found this page because one of our subscribers used MailChimp to send you an email campaign, and you traced a link in the email back here to investigate. MailChimp is an email-marketing service that serves more than 8 million companies of all shapes and sizes, from all over the world. We send more than 600 million emails every day, and we help our customers comply with spam laws and best practices so they can get their campaigns into their subscribers' inboxes."
Hover over the link in your post and you'll see it's a redirect to another url. "best practices" my ass.

It also doesn't help that most people can't explain what they didn't like either.

It's in Canada, so a US requirement would be weird.
Why? Canada is America's hat, after all.

Yes, that is true. I can remember a borderlands dev talking about focus groups. I can't remember the details but the testers asked for something and the devs went round and round in circles and eventually solved the problem by doing exactly opposite of what they had been advised first of all.
You have to be very careful when listening to a small group of people. But they are useful for things like discovering whether something is intuitive, setting the easiest difficulty levels, and generating some ideas.
I'm just more happy that the game is in a state where it can undergo this. Obviously as you pointed out, it may just be testing out a single thing, like how the Mako drives, but reading through the questions in the survey, and putting 2 and 2 together based on comparisons to DAI and player concerns over that, I think they are probably looking at the mix of exploration to other game content. It will be difficult to measure in a 2-3 hour test though.
