As some of you know, EA hasnt been the nicest company in gaming. Or in general. From DRM, Day 1 DLC and consistently shipping games unfinished, EA has been criticized as being immoral.

But really those things are them being buttholes. Its a terrible thing to do that to the people that support your growth but its not what Id call "true evil."

That is of course until you dig beneath the surface and find stories like this. There is a HISTORY of under-compensation and employee exploitation with this company and NOBODY is reporting it.

A colleague of mine mentioned this was essentially "wage theft". Where you were told you would be working for a certain amount of hours for a set wage, but are expected to work overtime for no compensation and to be fired at the end of your tenure. THIS is true evil.

A former EA employee commented on this and stated:

"Just got back form doing hard time there for a month. 14 hour days, 7 days a week. I make less than half of that 90k salary I'd have to get in order to be exampt from overtime pay."

No gaming news outlet is going to report on this because all of them have a conflict in interest. They rely on corporations like EA to feed them money so they can keep shilling good reviews. But some would say thats not news anymore.

They don't need to feed them any actual money, just access to information, marketing materials, demos, interviews, review copies and so on.

The money then comes from ad-revenue.

I thought I had read that some time ago already, checked the date and oh look: 2004.

Old news is old news. Sure bad news, but still positively ancient bad news.

Nobody is going to report on this because it's 11 years old and was reported on already back in 2004 when it was relevant.

This was widely reported...eleven years ago when it happened.

Take off the tinfoil hat, they're only interested in people with brains.

In other news, the US has just invaded Irak.

Ya, that's how ancient this particular practice is.

Anyway, if underpaying employees that one time in 2004 is True Evil, I don't want to know what you people think of companies that engineer thousands of job losses to increase profits (Goldman Sachs). Or threatren to GTFO out of the country if they're not showered with bailout money (GM). Or work with shady third-world governments with profit as their only concern with no regards for human rights (most mining and petroleum companies). Or use quasi child labor in Asia (most electronics manufacturing companies, Apple included). Or use grossly underpaid workers who practice in dangerous environments, in Asia too (many textile companies).

Voting EA as the worst company of America is truly laughable for anyone who's even minimally informed about the bullshit perpetrated by so many large corporations.

Pretty much stayed the same. You don't become a dev because the pay is good you become a dev because you want to and love developing a game. - Paraphrased from John Epler

Or perhaps he enjoys his job enough that he figures the pay is worth it. Some people don't live for money.
