I have played through the single player game countless times now, but never tried for the mirror match for some reason, how hard could it be, right?

Well this thing is kicking my arse, I can't even get through one round with an adept, anyone got any tips?

Try it with a different class. That's how I got it after I tried with some classes.
I think I was a Vanguard and I took James and Garrus with me. My bonus power was flare, I believe; and the map was the Spin Zone. Also I allow my squadmates use their powers on their own.
I don't use Biotic Charge+Nova. Instead, I charge and unload my clip (cyro ammo or incendiary ammo) to the enemy while going back and charge again, this triggers an explosion. I love when they shatter. Also I used Locust SMG and Paladin as my guns, along with Typhoon for James and Adas Anti-Synthetic Rifle for Garrus as their primary weapons. They were at level 5, if that would help.

That's the most difficult part of the game. Though the hardship varies according to your class, having enemies from different classes is really challenging.

Also try taking different squadmates with you. With your guns and mods at maximum level.
You should be able to deal with every defense type; shields, barriers, armor. For instance having squadmates with ammo powers could be useful; having a bonus power like energy drain that should replenish your shields / barriers, or flare for crowd control. I don't know if dominate works effectively against them, I never used that power.
After I got the achievement I didn't try it again yet :) However; I'm planning to.

Yeah I might try it again on NG+ with the higher level weapons available and access to the maxed out mods. The armor is the main problem here, it negates the biotic effects of most of my powers and vastly reduces weapon damage.

My armor was;

Chest and Legs: Armax Arena
Arms: N7
Shoulders: Serrice Council
Helmet: Mnemonic Visor

I don't use melee attack.

I also edited my post up there in order not to double post ;)

I think I do have an NG+ Clayguard on the citadel invasion, I might give that one a try.

The mirror match was the only one I couldn't manage initially. I was doing my insanity run-through on an infiltrator and I just had to give up in the end. I finally got my achievement last week using a Sentinel but only after dropping the difficulty to Normal!

I used the entry level zone (can't remember what it's called) but the fact that it was just one long narrow area meant you could keep maximum distance from the enemy and they'd have to expose themselves getting to you. I think I used Garrus and Ashley in the end. Since both Garrus and I had Overload we could take out the shields and with the whole squad armed with Krysae sniper rifles you could take the enemy down quickly before they could recover.

You definitely need to concentrate everyone's fire on one enemy at a time. Their shields regenerate quickly so you need to take them out before they can get them back.

Energy Drain is a good bonus power for Spectre levels. Bring in your sentinels (Miranda/Kaidan) to shave their shields and then detonate their armors with biotics.

Concentrate on killing the biotics first. Vanguard are vicious and they can teleport in front of you in a flash. Adepts and Sentinels love to Warp and they rarely miss. Watch out for Infiltrator's one-shot kill and Soldier's Inferno Grenades. You only need to watch out for Engineer's drones.

Use your squadmate to distract them as you take them out one by one. My best squadmates for Mirror Match is either Miranda/Kaidan/EDI/Tali/James. I never use snipers for this because they're too slow. Mirror Match on Insanity is always therapeutic for me.

Vanguard mirrors are the most difficult. Eliminate first with extreme prejudice.

Engineer mirrors are probably the second-most difficult, since the can cast Incinerates and their drone can cast rockets, making it seem like they spam powers rapidly.

Adept, Soldier, and Sentinel mirrors are essentially interchangeable. They all have a grenade and projectile.

Infiltrator is probably the easiest, a combination of a Cerberus Nemesis and CAT6 Sniper but with armor instead of health. It likes to cloak, but only tends to take out your shields instead of trying to kill you.

Mirror match wave 1: Soldiers, Adepts, and Engineers

Mirror match wave 2: Infiltrators, Vanguards, and Sentinels

Mirror match wave 3: All mirrors

I have beaten the mirror match with all classes on Insanity (YouTube playlist here). I had the easiest time doing it with the Vanguard and Sentinel, followed by the Infiltrator. Doing it with the Engineer was difficult, and I had to cheat with the Soldier and Adept by giving my squadmates Typhoons because that weapon is freaking broken on squadmates.

I finished the mirror match only once on Insanity. Not with all modifiers though. What I did was to throw a bunch of Inferno Grenades in the spawn point and then detonate fire explosions with Overload. Used Suppressor to finish the stragglers.

Could not have done it with no grenade pickups though.

But all modifiers on is what made it awesome! Although, I haven't done a solo "all modifiers" mirror match yet. I saw someone doing it with just a Venom shotgun but apparently its all about trial and error.

My first try was on my Engineer. Avenger and Predator as weapons, Overload, Sabotage and Inferno Grenades as powers. No Fitness. All modifiers. I didn't know what I was getting in to, thought it was a simple one on one match. After getting killed in all kinds of gruesome ways on the first wave I quit :D

Thread is sort of old, and already has good info.  The only other things I would mention would be that you want to be adept at dodging enemy projectiles (get the timing), and you can use powers to stagger the enemy (concussive shot, throw, or BEs).

Since the mirror enemies are so aggressive, you can usually pick a spot on your map with decent soft cover to hold, and they will come at you.
