So ready to drag Cole down into the Deep Roads. So. Ready.

Hopefully, Cole will have a lot of insight on the Lyrium that is flowing through the ceiling.

Ugh, I hope he gives you something. I mean I know the DLC is in five days, but a small tidbit wouldn't hurt.  ;)

It depends on the actor and if they have time or if they choose to chat or not. He read your tweet most likely and that counts. I know some of the DA voice actors through years of attending conventions.

He still might respond. Sometimes you have to catch them at the right moment.

Hopefully James has quite a bit of dialogue like in JOH! I was talking to Alix on Twitter and it seems from her tweets she had no idea she was used in the trailer since the Inquisitor is usually male and was very happy to find that out lol

Awww, she should be! Good for her.

In fairness, I don't know if anyone likes the Deep Roads......darkspawn and Old Gods maybe. But. Yep. Field trip!!! I'll be signing both Cole and Varric's permission slips for them. (I don't like having more than one rogue in my party but I need to hear Varric voicing my own feelings of the place every ten minutes.)

I didn't mind the Deep Roads, but my God A Paragon of Her Kind is the LONGEST quest in DAO! I was quite happy to see the blue skies again!

Yeah! It's supposed to sing/sound like the Fade to spirits. And I wonder if he can get a sense for the minds of darkspawn like he can red Templars. If so, I doubt he'll like what he feels.

In Asunder, Cole didn't like hearing the darkspawn. I'm ready to see if Cole will expand on his line "dwarves doesn't remember dwarves." Cadash would had loved to investigate more on what he meant, but sadly I didn't have the luxury.

I'm interesting in the new deep road DLC because of more dwarven's lore and characters.  :)  Hopefully, those two legions will be nice to Cole.

I was extremely pleased to hear the female Inquisitor's voice for once, yes! Hopefully the companions will indeed have a decent bit of content ... that is pretty much one of my conditions for getting the DLC. So I'll probably bug people here with some questions about that once it's been out a few days and those who got it right away had a chance to finish it.

Which opens a new issue here: disregarding the plot armor that has so far protected all the non-Warden companions except for the unlucky Hawke sibling in DA2 from the taint, do you think Cole is less likely to be affected by it than the fully-mortal people or could he catch it just as easily (horrible thought)? Since he doesn't eat or sleep and runs around in rather threadbare clothing, my headcanon has always been that he doesn't get sick, either. But the taint isn't exactly a case of the sniffles, and it affects the mind as much as it does the body ...

Edit: If I do end up buying the DLC, I'll have it take place after the final battle, so hellooooo Dorian! With Solas gone, you are my go-to mage. Get ready to see a place that's going to make you complain even more than forests and mountains do. You will have such fun. :P (Also, Cass and Cole as always.)

I was wondering that myself. And I made him more human on my PT I will be using, and your choice can affect his dialogue in JOH, so I'm wondering how this will turn out.

Human Cole will certainly be able to catch the taint.

I'm thinking of taking Cass and Varric with my Human Cole. I am a very powerful Rift Mage so I don't need magic backup.

Since Varric is using a Crossbow and Cole uses Daggers, they seem to work fine with my Mage and Cass. I brought the same party to the Fade and trashed the Nightmare. Best part is, unlike JOH, you don't need to have a majorly high level when you get this quest at Skyhold. It will level up with you.

"Seems like a must" also applied to the Warden plot, yet Varric did not say a single word to his best friend in the missions before the actual Adamant siege. So I wouldn't put too much hope on any companion who "seems like a must" in this DLC actually having a noticeable impact, be it Varric ("I hate the Deep Roads and I hate dwarfy things!") or Cole ("Sick songs everywhere, don't listen!") or Blackwall ("Yes, I'm a proper Warden. Sure am. But my darkspawn-sense is still in the shop for its yearly inspection, terribly sorry about that".)

You're such an optimistic person, Korva. You're right, though. Varric and Cassandra should had more to say to Hawke, Vivienne's role should have been much bigger at the Winter Palace, etc. I'm just hoping for more reactions out of this DLC. Besides, Varric did have a lot to say in the Hissing Waste.

I'd guess that human!Cole would be more susceptible than spirit!Cole. If it's the latter I think he states in a banter that he could easily poof back into the Fade anytime he wants, and....have we seen any evidence of Blight-corrupted spirits? Darkspawn, archdemons, red templars, they're all former mortal, fleshy beings. I remember Gaider at one point said they couldn't decide exactly how Justice's presence in Anders would affect his Grey Warden taint sickness, but that's all I can recall.

....How do you mean? He had plenty to say with Hawke before then: when he's introducing her/him to Inquisitor and in the hallway outside the war room (never did I feel more like an outsider looking in than when those two best friends were musing about how they got there. It was wonderful). He hardly ignored Hawke altogether until they got to the Fade. Most often you see the effects of the relationship on his argument with Cassandra and the fallout of Adamant; whatever happened to Hawke he is extremely upset. (If anything, I wish we could have seen Cassandra finally meet the legend herself.)

I'm also not sure what you mean by "noticeable impact?" What are you expecting that would even be? Outside of their own personal quests, the only thing companions do as a rule is speak up about their opinions on things happening or the environment, and that's really all I need and am looking forward to here.

Ooh btw I stumbled across an old song on YouTube last night that made me think of Cole and his relationship with the Inquisitor/Solas/Varric and I think it fits him perfectly. It's from the 90's Casper movie and it's called "Remember Me This Way" by Jordan Hill. It fits the feelings of the others and what they think of Cole.

... ouch. Hits you right in the heart, it does. Those lyrics are beautifully appropriate for Cole in the eyes of his friends. Want to hop over to the songs-for-NPCs and post it there too?

You're such an optimistic person, Korva.

Sorry ... I always see-saw between love for some specific premises/characters and sheer frustration at how much potential is wasted by rushed, shallow and/or one-sided implementation (especially since the things I like tend to be fringe tastes or even get a lot of flak from the bigger fanbase). I actually never intended to buy Inquisition because based on the same old patterns in the past Bioware games I played, I "knew" how it would turn out. Then a friend's enthusiasm got me hooked somehow, and I don't regret it because I love Cole and Cassandra to pieces and still find enjoyment in pondering some of the premises and other characters as well. But, yes, same old patterns again. And I very much regret that.

You're right, though. Varric and Cassandra should had more to say to Hawke, Vivienne's role should have been much bigger at the Winter Palace, etc. I'm just hoping for more reactions out of this DLC.

Yes, especially PC/NPC interactions. I guess we'll see in about a week.

I don't remember any, but it's admittedly been a long time since I played Origins (and never touched DA:A or DA2). It would be interesting if spirits are indeed immune to something that messes up mortal minds so badly, contrasting the way spirits are more easily affected by others' emotions in other situations. What, exactly, do the Blight and its side-effects do to mortal minds and souls?

(Given the absence of explanations for why the Origins companions were never affected, my headcanon for Wynne at least has always been that her spirit friend protected her.)

....How do you mean? He had plenty to say with Hawke before then:

Sorry for being unclear there, I mean during the main story parts in Crestwood and the Western Approach, where having Varric in the party didn't even merit a mutual "hello".

(never did I feel more like an outsider looking in than when those two best friends were musing about how they got there. It was wonderful).

Yes, it felt almost too intimate to be overheard, and showed a side of Varric that he doesn't really like to show otherwise. I don't like the character that much, but that scene and the hug you can give him if Hawke dies made me warm up to him more.

(If anything, I wish we could have seen Cassandra finally meet the legend herself.)

Another oversight, yes. It's sad that Cass kind of drops off the radar a bit once we get to Skyhold.

I'm also not sure what you mean by "noticeable impact?" What are you expecting that would even be? Outside of their own personal quests, the only thing companions do as a rule is speak up about their opinions on things happening or the environment, and that's really all I need and am looking forward to here.

By noticeable impact I mean NPCs having an active part that is integral to or at least changes the situation at hand. The best example is Solas' and Varric's involvement during Cole's personal quest -- while the most obvious letdown is probably Vivienne being a complete non-entity at the Winter Palace. A more minor positive example is, as Cespar just reminded me, how much Varric has to say in the dwarven ruins in the Hissing Wastes.

For me, the chance for a few random NPC/NPC banters or scenery comments or if the RNG does not decide that one of the other two party members gets to speak instead just isn't enough ... especially in terms of wanting more PC/NPC interaction.

Cheers. The video won't play in my country, but I'd already found another that did. The chorus and the first verse really hit home for me and reflect how Cole's raw compassion almost immediate made me want to reach back in turn. He deserves it.

Hm, regarding human!Cole and the Blight: I don't think it's possible for him to contract it. While a spirit's body is reflected by their mental state, it doesn't mean that all functions that require living cells will work. Human!Cole still doesn't eat or drink, even though he bleeds because it's expected of him. He breathes air because it's expected of him and necessary to speak.

While the Blight can corrupt both living and non-living matter, spirits are this weird ethereal in-between. There's never been a case of a spirit being corrupted by Blight. There's this natural repulsion, kind of like trying to put together magnets using the same poles. I think because they don't understand its nature on a fundamental level, they aren't able to emulate or become infected by it. Even in the Fade, all spirits (even very powerful ones) avoid being near the Black City, which wouldn't make much sense unless it hosts the Blight corruption within it.

Remember Avernus from Warden's Keep? Or Sophia Dryden's possessed corpse? Avernus was around spirits for about a century, either summoning them or fighting. He was pretty adamant that the Taint was alien to spirits, and not once did he see evidence of weird corruption in them. As for Sophia...her corpse was possessed by a demon for an equal amount of time, and her tainted body didn't seem to affect it in a mental capacity. It was just kind of hanging around poking through her memories, and being a nuisance to Avernus, which is what you'd expect of a demon.
