I'm wondering if anyone has a fix for this issue that I'm having with the game and stuttering game movement.  When I pan and zoom in game I have no problems or loss of framerates, but when I try to move the game "stutters".  It doesn't really affect gameplay save for being massively annoying.

Has anyone else had these issues and more importantly has anyone been able to figure out a reliable fix?

I'm using a laptop Intel Core i5-4210m @2.6ghz with 8g of RAM and an Nvidia 820m with 2g of RAM.

I've not seen this happen on any of my systems with Win 7 or even Vista.

Yes... kinda sorta. I used to have the exact same issue (all good as long as I wasn't moving) in a specific area of a specific PW, and I know the same thing happened to at least another player. I never found any way on my end to fix it, and the fact that it only happened in a specific place made me think it was a problem with the server... on the other hand, some players didn't have this problem, so who knows. It happened to me in two different computers and with Windows 7 and 8.1.

The point is: Have you tested different modules and/or areas with this setup? Maybe it has nothing to do with it, but just to make sure.

Other than that, NWN2 has worked just fine for me on Windows 8.1. Desktop PC and better components in general, though.

Are you using Skywing's Client Extension?

I guess you're asking Mokah, but for the record, I am, and I was when I had that problem.

I had that problem in the past, but it went away when I started using Skywing's Client Extension.  It fixes some, but not all, of the reasons for that stutter.

No I am not but here the weird thing.  If I restart my computer and start NWN2 first before opening the toolset the problem doesn't occur.  Any ideas why?

Resetting the computer resets some timer.  I don't know the specifics, but the stuttering is a timing issue, and when you restart your computer your timer is fresh and you won't get the stuttering.  It happens in some other games, too, like Arx Fatalis.  The longer your computer is running, the more this timing issue builds up.

i suffer from identical performance issues if the module i am playing is opened in the toolset the same time. closing the module is enough to get rid of those problems. there're also performane drops if i am in a very populated and script heavy area while the area map of the client extension is running in the background. minimizing/closing the windows helps to get the speed back. those helper windows aren't needed if you're not running a dm session.

I actually do not have the issue with the toolset running in the background.

I leave my computer on for days, just putting it in sleep, so it can wake to record TV shows. So I get this stutter all the time. I do  restart and then it is fine again. Usually I won't have this problem unless my computer has been up for days. One restart and I am good for several more days.

I should mention that the Client Extension fixes the stutter for me even though I also keep my computer on for weeks at a time without a restart.

Ditto. I often don't remember the last time I rebooted. I've been on Windows 8.1 since the day it came out and if anything it has run more smoothly than in Windows 8 or 7.

I know this is maybe a little late, and maybe the issue has already been resolved, but...

This might sound crazy, but have you checked your sound settings?  Yes, sound.

I'm running NWN on Windows 8.1 also, and had an interesting learning experience:

Was wondering why NWN was running so slowly -- it looked like any character I tried was moving through knee-deep water -- on a quad-core PC, no less.

Found out first of all that NWN wasn't really meant to run on more than one core, which meant changing the affinity of the game to just one of them... with no result, no matter which of the four I switched it to.

Here, it turned out that my sound settings, of all things, were doing it. I'd had it set to RAD Game Tools RSX 3D Audio, which was my favorite -- placed sounds would shift position relative to the camera, which is exactly what I wanted. But I switched to the Miles Fast 2D Positional Audio, which in my opinion is little better than monaural... and bam, suddenly no more running through molasses. Not liking that sound settings can somehow mess up your frame rate, but... that may be your culprit.
