Everytime steam restarts it insists on "updating" the game.  I have to wait for some imaginary patch to be applied before I can play.

I tried turning off auto-update but that doesn't work - when I click on the game it just goes from "100% - Ready" to "Download Stopping".

Also I tried the "View Support Information" link for the game in Steam, but that apparently just tries to launch the game.

Add putting steam in "offline mode" to things that don't work.
