Are the five Ashmancers really worth baiting like this after ME3? Haven't we suffered enough

but then I've met some real holy roller dillholes that make her fairly benign by comparison.

Especially this.

I'm from the south.  Or rather, Atlanta.  Now, Atlanta has gotten better over the years...   But it used to be a "fire and brimstone" type of place.  "If you don't believe, you're going to hell" type of place. Add rednecks on top of that...   Oh jesus.

Like I said, it has gotten better over the years, but in my formative years this is the way it was.

I think this is the reason why I can't bring myself to play DAI again.

Pretty much. She managed to have an honorable death at least.

So, tell me, how much more of these "thought's?" threads we need to see before the mods start to blocking them as soon as they are posted?

Now imagine what these games look like for people from other countries.

I'm German. We have all kinds of religions but they aren't that important in our daily life. They aren't spoken of much, there are no references to god, the bible or Jesus in any official texts or speeches. It's very... muted. It definitely isn't anyone elses business. Except for some numbnuts who are protesting against Islam, we're fairly tolerant, too. Far from perfect, but things are okay.

It's kind of weird to watch american shows and movies or follow the news. It's everywhere. People pray, people go to church, people quote the bible etc... I'm sure they do it in Germany too but I have yet to see it.

It's the same for the over the top patriotism, the almost worshipful reverence of war heroes and the military. Or the fascination with weapons. It just feels unreal to me.

It's all relative and what seems mild to you might seem over the top to others.

It was a tough choice, it really was. To extremely fleshed out characters that you have to interact with up until that point.

I would have left them both if i could.

I'd just prefer we get a proper epilogue to ME3 that deals with the characters and where they went in life. I'm ready for a new set of characters, even if I love Ash and Miri and Jack.

Never really cared for Ashley.  Completely absent 2nd game, and it feels like she made a cameo in the 3rd.

Was she really that perceptive? I mean, she couldn't tell the aliens from the animals.

There are space cows with hands who steal credits. I am not sure Shep could if the translator doesn´t have the language.

Yah, I can't understand the military industrial complex or the jingoistic attitude either.  Of course, I get all excited about my Scorpion...   However, I know that's not real.

I don’t recall the poetry, but I made a point never to talk to her after the first time, and she died at Virmire (easiest choice ever), so I know very little about her.

Wait, you don't remember her reciting lines to Oh Captain My Captain to Shepard?  That happens before Virmire, if you keep up with her conversations.  She mentions that it was one of her dad's favorites, and that she reads it every time she goes home to visit his grave.  This also happens regardless of romance status, as I've gotten the conversation on all of my Shepards, which are all female at the moment.

For reference, this is the poem and the lines she speaks:

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring.

After that, Shepard can say, "As I recall, the captain died at the end."  So it's not just a very sensitive side to one Ms. Williams, but it's also a bit of foreshadowing.  I doubt that it was accidental either.  I'm surprised you forgot or overlooked that.   This is the full poem, in case you (or anyone) is curious:

She quotes from Ulysses as well, but I'll have to replay to pick out what lines she uses.

You should try replaying ME1 and take every chance to talk to her before Virimire.  She also only mentions her religion in one pretty brief conversation.  That never bothered me, since she wasn't trying to convert Shep if s/he disagreed.  She stated her spiritual views, which as a person and as Shepard I could respect, and that was it.  Heck, Sebastian in DA2 was much more persistent about talking about the Maker or the Chantry.  Anyways, the conversation about Ash's sisters was longer and it, to me, showed a more sensitive side.  She put on a good front of being a cold and heartless Marine, and I could easily see past it.

Hm, I found both bland, but I've found Kaidan the least bit bland.

Not in my game. She died full of bullet holes while everyone pointed and laughed. B)

No that you mention it, I do remember that. I thought it was a poor choice of poem given that the captain dies at the end. It seemed fairly insensitive of her.

I just didn't trust her superstitions. It's a future society with tons of science and aliens and stuff that terran religions have typically resisted. It seemed really out of place to me, and frankly made me question her judgment.

She outgrows it though, something that I could see happening in ME1.  She had had little contact with any aliens prior to the Normandy, so some of her attitude made perfect sense to me.  Besides, she even admits this and I didn't see it affecting her ability to lead.  I think I'm one of the few that like Kaidan and Ashley a lot and pretty equally.  To each their own.  :)

Same way with Presley.  In ME1, he wasn't too fond of aliens.  In his data logs in ME2 (if you found them), he's more caring.

I never liked Presley or Adams for that matter.

I didn't like Pressley in the beginning either, but then I was unhappy to see him die. I did like seeing his data pad though. It was nice to see his change of heart, even if it was posthumous.

I'd replace Adams with an actual toolbox for Ken, Gabby and Tali to use.

I liked Adams.  He accepts Tali's expertise without a lot of question, which was a refreshing change from Ashley and Pressley's attitude.  It's a shame that Pressley's character development only happens if you visit the Normandy crash site.

I can understand why folks don't like him though.  At least Ken and Gabby we can agree on.  They are awesome.  ;)

I honestly can't quite put my finger on what it is I just don't like about Adams. Maybe it's the voice, or his groggy freakin' eyes. I now head canon that post-Destroy, Shepard will walk down to engineering and ask Adams if the Normandy is still EDI.
