Just two levels of RDD would seem to be fairly pointless. The +1 to AC and the +2 to strength wouldn't seem to be worth it, when you could have added two more levels of bard and increased your bardic skills, or two more levels of fighter for an extra point in your BAB and some nice fighter-only feats, or two more blackguard levels to get sneak attack and summon fiend.

RDD is the sort of class you want to devote yourself to entirely in order to get the full set of benefits (to the detriment of your bardic skills though). Then again, so is bard - a pure level 30 bard would kick arse royally.

EDM requirements, I assume.

RDD is often cut at 4, if going all the way to 10 is not worth the loss of levels in other classes. Bard 23/cleric 1/blackguard 2/RDD 4 is a popular build you could use in this case.

Why the single cleric level? If it's for Turn Undead (to qualify for divine feats), then three levels of BG would achieve that. Then you'd get Aura of Despair as well. Although I suppose that one level of cleric could gain you some useful free feats depending on what domains you chose.

I'm not a big fan of builds that only take a single level of a class just to qualify for something else. I consider it poor role-playing. Then again, I'm not a big fan of 'builds' in general. I prefer to create *characters* with behavioural traits and motivations of their own, rather than dull old mechanical 'builds' that are mainly concerned with statistical performance. Even if that means the character has flaws (flawed characters are always the most interesting anyway).

Any actual adventurer who only took one level of a class would seem to have serious commitment issues. :)

While I don't disagree (also, RP and builds are not mutually exclusive; I personally like a mix of both), it doesn't seem that pure mechanics or things like one-level cheesines are an issue in this case.

In that build, cleric gives two domain feats and unlocks TU, which lets you cut BG at 2 and take a couple more RDD levels for more STR and easier EDM access (abbreviations FTW!). Not necessarily a character I'd play, but it's mechanically strong (even though BG's bonus to saves may be overkill, but eh, synergy and all that stuff).

I take the two RDD levels at 28 & 29; all it does is allow me to pick up +1 to AC one level earlier than if I had gone 4 Fighter and taken Armor Skin; the -1 to BAB is negated by the +2 STR.  And it gives me slightly more HP and skillpoints; my total AB remains the same whether I go 2 Fighter (4 levels in total) or 2 RDD that late.  Because I take the second Fighter level in Epic levels, I can choose Epic Prowess, but there aren't many other feats worth choosing.  I opted for Divine Shield rather than Divine Might, as I had no intention of picking up Epic Divine Might; my CHA is only 16 anyway.

I will admit to creating a few characters with just one level of shadowdancer. I blame the PrC for it though - if you're going to offer the best feat in the class at level one, then how can you expect people to want to stick with it? :P I might think of seeing it through to the end if it was only a five-level PrC, and if it included Open Lock and Disable Device as class skills, but an entire ten levels of disappointment is just too much to bear.

Apparently the epic shadowdancer levels in NWN:SoU (up to level 30) made the PrC worthwhile. The Epic Shadowlord feat sounds particularly tasty.

SD is often worth taking to level 2 for Evasion.

I sometimes take two levels of AA for Imbue Arrow when there is no arcane caster in the party.
