So on Noveria, in peak 15, you meet up with the surviving scientists and some slightly suspicious security. There are three ways to progress from here: Break through security, Go to the hot labs next or sneaking through maintenance. Now if you go to the hot labs next and come back you find that Captain Ventralis is working for Benezia and has had all the scientists, except Han Olar, killed. If you break through the back door security the mercs turn hostile and you can kill them. The scientists are terrified but they won't be killed by Ventralis. I'm presuming they would return safely to Port Hanshan once you've cleared the area.
I was wondering, what happens to them if you sneak through maintenance? You sneak through the maintenance area without having to kill anyone, using Dr Cohen's pass. After this you cannot return to the survivors and it is unclear what happens to them. Does Ventralis realise Shepard is gone and kills the scientists per Benezias orders? Or does he find out Benezia is dead and thinks there's no point in killing the scientists now and tries to cover up the fact that he ever worked for Benezia?
