Is it easy to upload, etc.

Basically just run me through your experience uploading vids, etc and how it has worked with ME3 because I'm sure there are plenty of issues I haven't even considered. Or is it really easy? Thanks

Haupage HDPVR2 - you can upload directly from the capture interface, convert it to MP4 and upload (although I found issues in the syncing between the audio and video sometimes), or use studio software of one flavor or another to convert and upload. It comes with editing software called Arcsoft that is very rudimentary.

For recording Audio commentary Haupage recommended using the Turtle Beach PX21 headset with an audio out jack from from xbox. I found this to be a lot better than recording on a separate track using Audacity then trying to sync them up in an editor.

I use a Hauppauge. It's pretty easy to use from a hardware point of view. The software that comes with it is pretty terrible for anything other than just straight recording, though. As long as everything is hooked up, and the software is running on my laptop, I just press record, and it will record until I press stop.

I don't compress my files much, but I have a decent connection. Uploading a 2 or 3 gig file to YouTube (the video length could be anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes, depending on file type, resolution etc.) can take as little as an hour or two, if YooToob cooperates, or it could take up to 20 hours, if YooToob's prioritized monetized traffic is high.

You need to leave your browser open to the YooToob page and running until the upload is complete. If it is interrupted for any reason, you must start from the beginning.

The company that owns the music rights to the score of the Mass Effect games has auto-detect software that will flag your videos as illegal if it finds them. It is "troll reporting," but sadly there isn't anything you can do about it if it happens. There's nothing illegal about uploading ME gameplay videos, but if the automatic software flags you, YooToob will default to the copyright owner's interpretation, and the only appeals process is automated, meaning if it happens, your kinda f**ked.

This. Very easy. Actually easier than PC. It records in mp4 format so I can upload straight to Youtube afterwards. On PC, with Fraps, I have to convert to mp4 first, which takes my ancient PC 90-120 minutes, and then upload to Youtube. My Hauppauge only has the component cables, no HDMI.

I use the Elgato game capture device. It's expensive (around 150€ iirc), but it works well and it's both very easy to set up and record with it (just a button to click on). It also permits to do some basic editing operations but if you want to do more complicated stuff you will need a better video editor software.

With my Internet connection (which is far from being great), uploading a 40 minutes long video (around 2,5 Go in MP4) takes around 260 minutes. During this time, you Internet connection is, of course, considerably slowed down (basically, you can't download files at the same time or play the MP without a massive lag, unless you're soloing).

But, besides this little inconvenience, there's nothing too annoying or complicated in the process.

Turn off the music when you record a ME3MP game. You're only missing out on, what, Objective waves and Extraction. That seems a small price to pay to avoid the YT hassle.

You could try a netgear r7500 router with "dynamic qos". This should allow you to play Mass Effect during the upload phase.

Btw.: watching your ps3 videos on youtube, they seems to show some strange aspect ratio. Do you capture some wide screen resolution?

What are you refering to exactly ? I know I've one or two vids that are "shaky", after I made the mistake to use the autocorrect function of YouTube, but it was a long time ago...

If your going to get a capture card make sure it supports hardware compression. More expensive but it'll make your life a hell of a lot easier. I bought a card without it, and it hasn't been used more than like 3 times. Software compression on the CPU is significantly more taxing (e.g. need better pc) to compress it in real time.

Hauppage as well. Took a little figuring out with my TV being old, me using two consoles and mac, but I have some videos up. :)

Hm... I really should've written down the steps I had to take, in case I ever want to record again.

I used the Aver-Media HD DVR internal capture card. It's specifically designed for people with gaming PC's. It recorded 1080p but I preferably kept it at 720. If you don't have a gaming pc that can use those cards then my experience with it might not help you but I will share general recording, editing and uploading tips with external cards.

Recording

MP4 format

16:9 Aspect ratio

Video compression so that you avoid dealing with absurd file sizes

Everything else is basic trial and error. Record several practice footage until everything is as you want it.

Video Editing

This is optional. You can just upload raw video footage and be done with it but if you want to add some appeal to your videos with maybe some commentary, music and/or other creative editing ideas then I strongly recommend using a dedicated video editing software. I personally started with windows live movie maker which is great but later upgraded to what is arguably the holy grail of video editing, Sony Vegas Pro 12-13. There's tutorials on YouTube showing how to use either.

Uploading

Not much to say except that it all depends on file size and connection speed

FYI 60fps videos in Sony Vegas is a pain in the ass. Make sure to lookup how its done before you start a project.

If what happened to... (apologies, I cannot remember the BSN ID of the YooToob user I'm thinking of... Fluffy something, I think...) ever happens to me, I'll certainly be heartbroken. But I haven't monetized anything, and with a few exceptions, I still have all of the videos archived. It would be mostly upsetting that it would break pretty much all of my links in this forum.

I could remove the music from new videos, but if the software decides to flag me again, it won't make any difference, since I probably have 40 or 50 videos with Mass Effect music already up (most from before I knew that there was a separate company with the music rights using software to detect it.)

I have to say, they were awfully easy on me over the two videos that were flagged. Unlike the YooToober whose name I forget, they didn't shut down my channel, or even make me take the two videos down (they're still up.) But that has more to do with YooToob's automated and weirdly inconsistent way of handling copyright reports.

I use my noggin.

I tried that, but it left me with a headache, and Windows couldn't read the files afterward.

I verbally detail what is going on while I am playing, as my wife is a court stenographer.  We will then take the transcript to the visual processing lab, in which one or both technicians (my daughters) will recreate the gameplay using various mediums, such as waterpaint, crayon, fingerpaint, or classic pencil.

I will then record a commentary on my computer and match the play by play with screenshots of the technicians' work.

I am working on a third technician, who will bring a whole new life and level of this art to clay animation.  However, my wife has become a rather light sleeper after "hiring" the first two, so it may be a while.

I will update this thread once everything is in place.

I got a copyright strike years ago for uploading a YouTube documentary that I put captions for like 6 languages on. Back then they didn't have the "strikes disappear over time" and they had a 15 min limit. When you got a strike you couldn't go past that. It pretty much killed my battle network hacking channel.

I've been thinking of getting one of the new Elgato game capture devices myself recently, so are they any good, Loufi?

I've seen some of your vids and they looked very good to me.

difficult to explain, ...the video ratio is 16:9 but it seems that the HUD ratio is a clinched. Also in the character menu.

I'll try to attach a screen shot:

[edit] I just recognized that I don't know how to attach a picture

[edit2] ok,... i can't

so, that's a you tube screen shot from your brand new "Batarian punched Phantom in the face" video, and how it look in full quality on my mobile device.

This picture has been taken with my crap mobile phone actually, and used just to illustrate the solo. The video quality is way better than that.
