I have been thinking about this for a while now. What if in Mass Effect: Andromeda, the main character could be related, or the son/daughter of Shepard (If your Shepard survives in the end of the third game) And based on which character you had a relationship with in the game, We could unlock new races to play as? For instance if I were to have a relationship with Liara in the Mass Effect Trilogy (Which I would never do, Ashley for the win.) It would unlock a new optional race for the third game, an asari (Which of course could only be female) Imagine having a quarian/human hybrid, I even thought What if there were a secret race selection only obtainable by hearing Tali and Garrus flirt with each other in Mass Effect 3.

Good idea or too weird?

The sooner you let go of 'the son/daughter of shepard' the better you will feel...

Lo and behold, the Shepard sent us his son to kill us for our sins. He will be our salvation through destruction.

The universe doesn't revolve around Shepard crew. Garrus and Tali wouldn't be the first interracial couples. There is a romantic movie between a Quarian and a Turian when Tali and Shepard watching a movie together. Krogan and Asari couple, Asari and human, Asari and Krogan, Asari and Salarian couples can be seen throughout the series. I don't see why you would unlock a new hydrid just because Shepard and/or his crew getting it on. Just let go of the descendant ideas. There are just too many variations to Shepard being alive and who his LI is, many of which are infertile or noncompartible. It's already canon that hydrids are not possible, even the Asari's offsprings are pure Asari, none of the genetic is from the other species.

not weird.  But dumb.  Your title is misleading.  I mean no personal offense but I hardly find this a "good idea" at all.

First off it assumes we'll be importing something.  which we won't.  Second it assumes x character lives past the ending of ME3, which may or may not be the case.  Third, in your Garrus and Tali example...how in the hell would those two separate species even be able to have kids together?  It's more likely a human and a walrus could have offspring than a Turian and Quarian.  And how about if your shepard romanced Tali? the species don't mix.

Let this idea of a child go...it's terrible.

As much as I liked Shep in ME1-3, ME:A needs to be a clean slate.  The only romances that can possibly result in a Shep-child would be MaleShep/Ash, MaleShep/Jack (it's possible that Cerberus' experiments could've messed up her reproductive organs in some way, but no guarantees), and Shep/Liara (always asari).  While it's possible that FemShep could be pregnant in ME3 if she romanced Kaidan, the fact that she is most likely dead in 3 out of 4 endings, as well as the severity of her injuries in the high-EMS Destroy ending, it is highly, highly, highly unlikely that she'd carry said child to term.  Jacob leaves FemShep for Brynn between ME2 and ME3, and the only other male LIs for FemShep are non-human, so the only way FemShep could possibly have a kid is with Liara.  And even then, the fact that everyone can die in ME3, whether through low-EMS or by choosing Refusal, the possibility of Shep having a kid is near-nonexistent.

As I said, ME:A needs to be a clean slate.  That means no Shep & Co., no Reapers, and a brand new protag that is unconnected to Shep's story.

Asari are mono gender and   10:32

Allusions to who she was perhaps (shep) like a krogan calling you (the new main character) a shepard (hero) we could found maybe the book Liara and Javik wrote, a Krogan named Solus or Mordin, some Quarian vas Normandy or vas Vakarian, ...a new badass space hamster.

I don't really see the need to link things back to Shep.

Shep wasn't really that interesting of a character, especially considering everybody else on the ship you could talk to.

Reading some of the comments above, if one's chosen synthesis a hybrid could exist but for those affect after the end of Mass Effect , but is good they building a new story on the pillars from the past trilogy a "blank slate".

With how they talked about how deep they wanted to make customization this time, I have no doubts you'll be able to choose your own color. I only think they used two different colors to separate the male and female for this conference.

This is literally the dumbest idea on this forum. That includes all the thoughts? threads.

Bravo OP. I didn't actually want those brain cells anyway.

What about my thread?  I made it as a parody of the serious threads.   :P

Which is actually a good idea and a good basis for conversation.  I can't tell if you failed or succeeded in your thread.   Depends upon how determined you still are to troll, I guess.   :)

To the OP: It's a creative idea, so I will happily give you credit for that.  However, I do have some issues:

1) This relies too much on romance content to unlock.

2) On that note, romance content determining races in ME:A. is a bad idea.  It puts far more focus on the romance arcs then there needs to be.  Remember, it's the fans that place all this importance on the romances, not so much the writers.

3) That trilogy is over, and why would anyone "in a place and time far removed from the events of Shepard" care if s/he hooked up with a turian or a quarian?  That doesn't make sense.

4) Related to that, both Quarians and Turians have roughly human lifespans.  So Garrus and Tali would be dead by ME:A.

5) Turians have a chemistry incompatible with humans, to the point where even sharing food would kill them and extra caution needs to be taken for intimacy.  Even kissing has to be done with care.  Ditto for quarians.

6) The Quarians have a low population and probably not many made it on board the ME:A ship/space station.  That is, if there is Quarians in ME:A and I haven't seen signs of them yet.  I could see a Quarian adopting a Quarian or Turian child and raising it with a Turian spouse, but I can't see any hybrids coming from that.

7) What about those players that didn't want to hook up with an alien, or had a forever alone Shepard, or were a gay male Shepard?  They shouldn't be excluded from experiencing other races.

8) A human-only PC has been 100% confirmed.

9) Why only female?  I do prefer playing FemSheps (well, women in RPGs in general if I have the choice to be honest,) but...why lock the players out of a potential choice?  I also find it very odd that you mentioned Tali as one of the ways to "unlock" this content, yet that is a romance available only to straight/bi male Sheps.  Well, unless you use a mod.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I can't see this happening ever.

What about no romance Shepards? The only Shep I actually kind of cared about didn't romance anybody.

Not to mention the fact that several LIs can die.

Not to mention the fact reproduction with any non-human excluding Liara is impossible.

Plus, importing isn't happening. Even if it were I'd hate hate hate for something huge like picking your race to be constrained by optional (and honestly uninteresting to me) content in the previous trilogy.

I don't think this would work with all LI's unless it's Liara that always has baby in the end or sth. Cause I'm pretty sure that Turian and Human hybrid can't happen, dna just too different. Quarian and human probaply can't either. And I wonder in what point fem!Shepard could get pregnant and have baby even ^^;

Wasn't really trying to troll, tbh.  Was mostly just poking fun at those threads.   :P

In other news.......... it's apparently my b-day already.  Kind of snuck up on me.
