The good, the bad, the ugly.
Do you like the current system?
Do you enjoy your time in empty lobbies?
Any suggestions on how it could be improved or if it needs to be improved at all?

It's impossible for me to judge the current system without more in depth knowledge, some of it BioWare might not want to disclose.
I would prefer that it be opened as wide as possible so that there was a good population of players all the time. However I have my suspicions as to why this is not the case. System performance.
One thing that has dramatically improved in this game for me is the ultra lag/rubber banding that was bad early on. There are still lag games but nothing like it was. There has also been short periods of time where that comes back. I have a feeling that these settings are experimented with by BioWare and if they open it up too wide from the region locks then lag complaints go way up.
I think it is simply relate to game performance due to the game engine that is being used.
I suppose I don't know what gripes fall under "Matchmaking" exactly, but I have a couple that are related.
1. I wish there was a map filter for "Quick Match."
2. I would prefer if "Quick Match" would prompt to create a lobby if it finds no games instead of just creating one. If I wanted to create a lobby, I would have clicked on the other option to begin with.
3. "Quick Match" should not switch the map settings of the search if you get dropped into a lobby you aren't interested in playing.
4. Infinite "Joining Lobby" message screen where you are likely actually sitting around in the lobby is somewhat irritating. I don't know of a real way of backing out other than either closing the program via Alt F4, or disabling the network adapter (which will force a connection error message and drop you to main menu).
I'd like to filter out routine
So you just have perilous or threatening
All I can say is ME:A's matchmaking better not be anything like this.
I brought my teacup, but see no Matcha.
Connection quality status and ping would be good.
I like how you call the topic "Constructive", but then on your second question go against it.
I do suppose it's better than if your opening sentence were that poor.
For me, I've never experienced these so called connectivity issues but I appreciate that not everyone lives in a region with good internet infrastructure and an active player base.
I would like an experience buff though, for selecting a random map, similar to what we saw offered in ME3MP.
a serverlist with all the details of the map/players would be a great help.
Something like the battlefield 4 serverlist.

This - the matchmaking is awful as it currently stands. It's far easier to find people on ME3 (a 3 year old game) than it is to find people on DAMP. This is clearly a massive issue that Bioware haven't addressed properly. Yes they might have made some minor tweaks but the issue still remains. Who cares if they now save your last searched settings if you cant find a lobby 9/10 times. What's worrying is that Bioware are either completely oblivious to this issue or are unable to resolve it and are therefore purposely ignoring it given their actions or lack of.
In either case it does not look good for Bioware, this has been an issue from day one

You seem to have misunderstood my post in the other thread (which was locked afterwards). It used to be that when you searched for a game and got the "lost connection" message, it would trigger a long loading screen, throw you back into the MP main menu and reset your matchmaking parameters every time. This is not the case anymore since about two months, so I assume that they fixed it. You can still lose connection while searching for a game, but after you click away the message you stay in the matchmaking menu with your search parameters (Perilous/FC/Frost for example).

Agreed, I do think the new engine is the problem and it is performance related. I think they have had to clamp down on the matchmaking because performance issues demand it. Just a hunch though.

Internet infrastructure is fine in my country. the problem is the nearest country is:

But seeing as people in Europe are having the same problem with connecting to games in neighbouring countries, it's no big surprise why the playerbase is so low.
If I can do end game raid content on MMORPG on US servers for FFXIV, Or play Uncharted or TLoU with the rest of the world, then something is weird.
I was talking to someone the other day who plays private matches with people in other countries that normally the quick match doesn't include and he said he wasn't experiencing any noticible problems, so he didn't understand why he wouldn't be getting matched with them.
742 million people in Europe, so doesn't seem to be anything to do with population density... Also playing on PS4 and EU being a PlayStation territory, something seems weird.
If someone in the California can be matched with someone in New York, then someone in London should be able to get matched with someone in Athens and someone in Auckland should be able to get matched with someone in Perth... But it seems only the latter is possible.
Maybe we should do some private matches to test this theory of strict ping filters and are they necessary?

MMORPGs tend to have dedicated servers instead of using P2P connections for hosting though.
I'm lucky, being somewhere with good networks. And the region-lock (or whatever they've decided to call it) doesn't affect me much because of proximity to a country with a massive playerbase.
Still, I would prefer that they remove the region-lock and replace it. It's not that I don't understand prioritizing lobbies with lower ping when "Quick Match" is chosen. It's just that I would prefer that it do no more than prioritize. I don't want to fail to find a game when there are plenty of available lobbies outside of Canada/U.S. I understand that the likelihood of lag increases, but I can get bad lag from someone in the same city as me. And I can live with bad lag, or leave and find another lobby on my own. It would be nice to have options.
I would also like the ability to choose the factions before starting a game. If I'm going to have to solo most of the challenges, I'd like to be able to pick Venatori, instead of having to re-start my game over and over until I get lucky.
Of course, all of that really should be written in the past tense, since I've barely played in months.

Yeah, that has improved.

Yeah, however The Last of Us and Uncharted 3 MP are P2p and I get can be in matches with people from France, Mexico, USA and Australia all at the same time and it be smooth as butter.
Maybe it is engine related.like Beer has said... But at what point does it totally destroy the experience?

Unfortunately the ping filter is rather stupid, I could get connected to someone with good ping who has a terrible connection, It's a bit of a lazy way of matchmaking, it doesn't look for optimal connection, it just tests your ping and then you enter a match with a host's whose upload can't support it or something similar.
I agree, it shouldn't just chuck you into an empty room when it could chuck you into a lobby somewhere else in the world and it's your choice if you want stay there.

When you have those issues in the UK, the matchmaking is ****** ****.
So does matchmaking only work properly in USA even though parts EU and Asia have the best internet in the world?

I admit it.

I don't know how to make Matcha.

It's pretty good, actually. The powder blends well.
