Hi experienced modders,

I'm working on a new mod (a sequel to 16 Cygni). I'm looking for an aiming animation and have found nothing so far. The idea is to have bad guys threatening the party with ranged weapons. Of course I can make them shooting at a dummy target, but that's not the effect I'm looking for.

Perhaps one of you has an idea or already done something similar.

Thanks in anticipation.

For clarification, you want them to be standing with bows drawn at the ready, as if waiting for a signal to loose?

One problem is that this might make it too noticeable that the bowstrings are never pulled, and no arrow is held in position when a creature uses a bow.  The animation just pantomimes it.

Yes exactly, standing with weapons at the ready.

I'm using Loki12345's modern guns, so no missing bolt or arrow issue.

wasn't there this method where you can freeze a played animation at a specific frame? afaik this was used for statues of creatures/npcs in the past. perhaps you could use it without the stone vfx. within a cinematic i shouldn't be that obvious that the npcs are petrified in time.

Interesting thanks, but as you said not that obvious. Let's wait for other suggestions.

Have you looked through any of the Kemo animations?  There might be one in there that could look like a steady aim loop.

The custom animation Bow_fidgetM01 does something like that. I tried playing with it to create what you want to do yourself, but came up with some problems which I don't remember to be honest, and ended up dropping the idea. I think the animation looked cool, but I couldn't manage the freezing semper mentioned. Perhaps you have more luck with it.

He's using a gun, so the bow wouldn't look right, I think.  But I don't know whether it's a one-handed gun like a pistol, or a two-handed gun like a rifle.  If two-handed, then the crossbow animations might be appropriate.

A two-handed rifle which is seen by NWN2 engine as a crossbow.

Then maybe bad news, because Bow_fidgetM01 on the custom animation list is only listed under bow and not crossbow. Crossbow is blank on that spot so I don't know if there is aiming for it. Actually every weapon type has a ready animation which is the fidget, except crossbow. Why would that be?

Don't know, but the rage idle for the crossbow has the crossbow raised.  But the NPC is bouncing in an exaggerated way.

You DEFINITELY don't want to start fidgeting with a loaded crossbow in your hands...

Thanks for your inputs guys. I will make some tests the coming week-end and report back. Anyway, I know how to amend the scene if I can't achieve something satisfactory.

Is it something like this you're looking for?

As you can see, these are far from being ready for release, and obviously depend on the length of the rifle.

Absolutely, something like this. Never seen that stuff but it looks promising.
