The Black Widow is for sure. Never really tried the others.

Personally, I think Black Widow is the only one of those that is worth it. But I get all three nowadays. I just farm credits on geth in the Armax Arena ![]()

Some people have replied, but let me add my thoughts:
Overall, I do not think any of the Spectre guns are worth getting. But for a more detailed breakdown:
NOTE: If I mention the "latest patch", that is referring to the last patch which gave a lot of single player weapons the balance changes made in multiplayer.
Wraith shotgun:
If you want a really light, fairly damaging shotgun for your Vanguard (or any class I suppose) and you do not have DLC---or you think the DLC weapons are too overpowered and too much like cheating--then go ahead.
Vanilla game it was crap. With the latest patch it was buffed like crazy to point where it is really good. But with DLC you the Venom, Reegar, and Piranha. In-game you also have the Claymore and Raider.
Paladin pistol:
The cheapest of the Spectre weapons. Worth it if you want a Carnifex before you get the actual Carnifex.
But again, DLC... Executioner pistol is one-shot, one-kill. Plus you have other weapon options with DLC like the Punisher SMG.
And in-game, if you want to wait, you can get the Carnifex (more shots) or Suppressor in the Citadel DLC which fires faster and has an outrageous headshot multiplier.
Black Widow sniper rifle:
This is probably the one weapon that most people will point to as being worth getting. But I am hesitant to agree. I think a lot of it depends on your class and playstyle.
Black Widow is really only worth it on the Infiltrator and Soldier. With the other classes, you are likely casting so much more often than you are shooting and so this weapon kills your cooldowns too much to be worth it, particularly on the Engineer which relies on cooldowns with tech's short priming windows.
Also, it depends on your playstyle. If you want one-shot, one kill, then Mantis (with Energy Drain + Disruptor Ammo) or Kishock (DLC, with Disruptor Ammo) are early options.
Black Widow is basically a three-shot Mantis, which makes it sound better than the Mantis, but, i have a few misgivings, namely:
- Even on Infiltrator with all the sniper bonuses and Disruptor Ammo, it will not one-shot shielded enemies on Insanity. It will take a minimum of two shots.
- It is overkill on unshielded enemies where the Viper can also one-shot kill with headshots. Particularly with the Infiltrator's damage bonuses, or the Soldier's damage bonuses.
- Therefore, it is most useful on super elite enemies like Atlas mechs, Banshees, Geth Primes, and Brutes... which are not that plentiful in the game. And even when it comes to the super elite enemies, you have powers and power combos to compensate for your potential lack of weapon damage.
And if you have the Collector's Edition (or modding), you have access to the Valiant, also a three-shot sniper rifle. Not nearly as strong as the Black Widow, but it has a faster rate of fire and a much faster reload time.
I am not saying it is a bad weapon; a lot of players really like using it in the single player campaign. I am just not sure if it is worth the credits considering the other choices and how they work in-game, particularly with the Infiltrator which most players use it on. I think the Infiltrator has other options worth considering. Heck, if you do not like the sniper time dilation, buy the Paladin instead and stick a scope and Cranial Head Trauma mod (Leviathan DLC), or wait for the Supressor.
Soldier can probably make better use of the Black Widow than the Infiltrator I think. Infiltrator has to reload after three shots, and all that sniper damage bonus tends to go to waste. Soldier can fire three shots > hit Adrenaline Rush for instant reload > fire three more shots.
As an Infiltrator you could use Marksman to help increase its rate of fire under sniper time dilation. You could use Energy Drain to help combat shields, but at that point I still think the Viper would be better overall.
But take all that for what it is worth, which is probably next to nothing. I have barely used any of these Spectre weapons since I think other weapons are better, particularly the DLC weapons. I generally have a few "go-to weapons" that cycle on all my Shepards.
(I am sure a lot of players will take issue with my thoughts on the Black Widow. Feel free to yell at me for being dumb.)

I don't remember about the shields but Banshees's barriers were down with one-shot and their armor took two or three shots.
If you love Carnifex, you'll love Paladin too but I'm not forcing myself to buy Paladin when I have the Carnifex. Also I think it's fun to use the Scorpion.
I don't use shotguns. Even my squadmates don't use shotguns so I have no idea about Wraith (I didn't even remember its name, I looked it up from RedCaesar
By the way RedCaesar's suggestion about having Paladin with a scope and using it like a sniper rifle is a very good one. I had tried it. Paladin is really effective against armor. (As is the Carnifex and probably the Supressor too, which I don't like using)

I don't usually bother with the Spectre Weapons, unless it's a New Game + and then I might spend the extra credits to get them.
But honestly there are perfectly viable 'Rare' or 'Common' weapon alternatives that I prefer to use without blowing a couple of hundred thousand credits to get.
The Mantis is my favourite sniper rifle hands down, (sometimes I use the normal Widow, but you don't get that until Thessia), but if you want to be OP then yes go with the Black Widow. Just as you could go with the Kishock (DLC gun) or the Javelin for that matter.
The Paladin? I used to buy that, mainly for lore reasons, but found I never used the thing, especially with the addition of the Suppressor later on. If I'm using a pistol at all it's usually just the good ol' Predator on a Caster class. Although I do like the Carnifex.
The Wraith is a good gun, but in SP it's gonna' be the Claymore for me.
At the end of the day it's your playthrough so go with what you like, or try something different.
As long as we win the Reaper War, it's all good baby!!

wraith is a beast. almost makes as much damage as a claymore. but much more lighter, more accurate and its a two shot gun instead of the one shot nature of the claymore.
black widow is a beast too. but i dont like it's weight.
for me paladin does not worth it. never liked the gun.
usually i go with mantis/claymore, or mantis/wraith.

The Wraith is the best gun in the base game by a wide margin in my opinion. Good on squadmates.
Black Widow is good for a couple specialized builds. Not good for squadmates (since Mantis is essentially the same for them for free, and Javelin is much better).
Paladin's biggest advantage is how early you can obtain it. It is not the best pistol in base SP (Arc Pistol), and Suppressor is significantly better if you have Citadel. Relatively good for squadmates.

I say if you are only going to buy 1..go with the Wraith...amazing stopping power. I like the Black Widow more in MP. But, if you have the time..and put in the effort in the Armax arena..you can buy everything

If you're an infiltrator or soldier the black widow is easily the best weapon in the game. It's essentially a mantis with a 3 shot clip which is an enormous upgrade. With adrenaline rush or marksman you can effectively get off 6 shots without reloading which is huge. It's spare ammo capacity is fairly mediocre but this can be rectified with weapon upgrades and ammo power bonuses.

According to this it does. Apparently there was a bug with Ashley were it wouldn't work but when I used it it worked fine.
I'm a better source than the wiki. ![]()
It does have a relatively clear statement near the bottom though (slightly wrong though).
As of patch 1.04, Marksman will automatically reload all weapons when activated (Multiplayer only).
edit: now the wiki is a bit better.

I'm playing a NG+ as an infiltrator and have a maxed out Venom. Is it worth getting the Wratih or is the Venom better?

The Venom is better as long as you are used to its mechanics.

Well I know that you have to hold the trigger down longer if you want it to fire off a cluster instead of single shot. Is that what you mean? Admittedly, I haven't managed to get the cluster thing to work all that often!

Paladin was a very good surprise for my Vanguard character 'till getting the Suppressor. It's very precise and cause high damages. The sad part is 3 ammo per thermal clip. I loved it.

Yeah, that is basically what I mean. Aiming it is a little different than most weapons. Charge and aim at the feet works well.

I always use Wraith and Black Widow if my character uses those weapon types. I sometimes buy the Wraith even if i don't use shotgun just to allow squadmates to use it, though usually they're good with the Eviscerator. I used to use Paladin too, but it really has nothing on the Carnifex and Suppressor that you get for free. Looks better though, but not 200,000 credits better, and in cutscenes Shepard always has that Predator BB gun anyway ![]()

Save your money... The save game at the Specter Terminal buy your weapon... Jump into a mission... Test the gun.. If you don't like it revert your save.

- The Wraith is excellent for Vanguards, and at Level V and with the Weight Capacity evolutions you can even carry a small pistol like the Predator or the Phalanx and still retain more than 195% cooldown bonus. No need for Ultralight SMG's!
- The Widow is awesome for Infiltrators, and good for Soldiers and Tank (no-cooldown) Sentinels. I finished the game twice as an Infiltrator using mainly the Widow and a backup SMG.
- The Paladin is only a matter of preference.

I used the Widow on ME2 and it was powerful, but it has only 1 clip. I focus my money to get the Black Widow in ME3 ASAP with my Infiltrator and it was totally wortgit.
3 clips is awesome and I started clearing the battlefield much faster.
However, now that I'm playing as Vanguard, I'm not sure I'll get that Wraith shotgun, which is just a little better than the Eviscerator.
I believe I'll stick to the one shotter Claymore ![]()

Everyone drools over the Black Widow and after testing it really doesn't match my playstyle. You can feel the weight of it through the controller and if something has a shield or barrier on it you aren't getting the one shot kills you should be getting for a weapon that heavy with that fire rate and that recoil. I tested the Indra Vs the Black Widow as an Infiltrator against a Harvester... Saw the dps loss with the Widow and reverted my save.

Been playing on insanity. 1-2 shot everything. Then again I put warp ammo as extra power and upgraded that to full damage.

Yeah but with a normal Widow you'd need to reload between a kill. With the Black Widow, you can get a kill, use a power to remove the shield and get another kill ![]()
