Regarding Black Widow. It's a very good weapon. High damage and really impressive if you can land a head shot.

Unfortunately the "shield gate" mechanic ruins sniper rifles. So having 3 shots per clip is really beneficial.

However I'm not really into sniping. See spoiler.

Maybe it's just me but I'm not terribly fond of sniper play style in ME 2 and 3.

 

I find that it takes me ages to aim at a target, hope that target doesn't move and fire.

Quite often that target moves so I end up wasting precious ammunition.

 

In addition all guns except for shotguns and heavy weapons can be scoped.

 

 

In ME 1 I found the sniper rifle a lot more useful. Why? Because you can really do some proper long range shooting.

I makes sense to take the time to line up the perfect shot if dashing to mid range takes that much longer.

 

In Mass Effect 2 and 3 there is no such thing as long range. The map sizes are not big enough.

In Mass Effect 3 especially you're carrying a really heavy gun with few bullets when you can carry a lighter gun with comparable DPS despite low damage per shot.

 

Wraith Shotgun. It's a very good light shotgun. There are other strong contenders in the light weight shotgun category. So maybe that money is better spent on mods for your shotgun and armour pieces. It's still a worth while weapon.

 

Paladin Pistol. This is a very powerful pistol. As good as pistols get without DLC. Carnifex is a close second for non DLC guns, however this is late game. If you want this pistol really badly, it's worth it.

Damn that makes no sense at all. You probably don't know how to use a sniper. I played an Infiltrator on Veteran and Insanity in Me2 and Me3 and I was quite efficient. In ME3 I used the sniper 90% of the time. I didn't even need other weapons. Sniper Headshots are so much fun.

Sniping in ME1 in much worse than in the other games.

As an update, I've been using the Wraith and it's very awesome. I can one shot most enemies with it

Regarding sniping in general, (this is just my personal opinion) I love the idea of sniping down targets hundreds of metres away.

ME 2 and ME 3 don't provide that kind of range. Geth Incursion in ME 1 was a great time to snipe down targets from ridiculous ranges.

 

In short, I'm not a big fan of using a long ranged weapon to take down targets less than 25 metres away.

To be fair, if James Bond's adversaries are using these weapons in a fire fight, you can't go wrong. (Bad pun).

 

Wraith is a good purchase. Light weight shotgun that does a lot of damage without the incredible weight of a claymore.

Yes but there are some long range fights in the game. Maybe not that long but long enough to use a sniper. Otherwise you'd need an assault rifle or heavy pistol.

The new defense mechanism isn't that bad. Overload or reave can help, plus the Black Widow holds 3 shots per clip with absurd damage.

It's really nice to see the enemie's head or even body explode after being hit.
