Well, I had to re-post this idea.

Pretty much I'm saying it would be cool if there were unlockable hybrid races to play as in Mass Effect: Andromeda depending on what long term relationships you had in the Mass Effect game trilogy. For instance you could play as an Asari if you had a relationship with Liara or Samara in the Mass Effect games, but only if one's character survived the ending of the third game.

A cool secret unlockable Race would be if you overheard tali and garrus talking to eachother implying they are in a relationship.

EDIT: There would be a choice whether or not to be a descendant of Shepard in the game.

Good Idea or no?

It would be more trouble than it is worth since there are too many variables to account for.

Well the variables would only slightly change gameplay or not at all, as people might say: "Aren't you the descendant of the Shepard?"

It is achievable in my view point, even if it cannot be done, it is a cool idea I think.

Also different descendants (Such as descendants of liara or samara) would have different or stronger abilities (From traits and genes) So a descendant of Samara and Shepard would probably have a very high biotic skill in the game, and maybe even higher if shepard was a biotic himself.

They are distancing this from shepard's story as much as possible, and having you play his descendant is kinda the opposite of that movement.

Plus it would suck to have to play the whole trilogy again just to unlock a racial option in MEA.

Good idea but impossible to implement.  Only people on computer will have a save available (seeing as the games are not on Xbone or PS4)  So they would need to use something like the Dragon Age Keep to even let the game know who you romanced.  And then it would not be much of a secret or treat for people who played it that way in their game.  Since you could just go to this "Keep" and get whatever secret race you wanted.

The only descendants of Shepard that would be possible though as far as I am aware are Human and Asari and most of the LIs can't reproduce with Shepard regardless. (Though if I'm wrong please correct me but I do recall most LIs being unable to have children or incompatible with Shepard to have children)

The idea of playing other species besides human or possibly some weird hybrid species would be interesting, but imo I'd rather not play as Shepard descendants.

Though completely on board on playing as something other than human.

But it would encourage players of Mass Effect: Andromeda to play the original trilogy, which is very good.

The unlockable races is more like a very good reward, an achievement, not a quick grab Downloadable Content or code that lacks skill and determination. It's getting easier and easier for gamers to "Win" prizes in games, Which is bad. I like a challenge in video games.

No.

As soft as the science got in the later games, hybrid kids would be the last nail in the coffin for me.

What about Ashley? What about Miranda? It would be optional, one could play as a totally different character in the game if they wanted to. And maybe whatever Cerberus did for shepard accounted for his inability to reproduce with alien races. Problem solved.

Again it is impossible.  Mass Effect is not on Xbone or PS4 so there is no save file to check.

Miranda is infertile so no to that as well.

This idea is moot anyway since Bioware confirmed we are stuck playing only a human male or human female.

No. Too many negative variables: gay Shepards, Shepards in interspecies relationships, Shepards who flat out don't want children, etc.

Haha, but what if whatever Cerberus did to shepard boosted his ability to reproduce in the game. (This is outlandish but I can't let go of the idea of "Descendants of Shepard.")

Instead of 'Shepard Kids'. I would like it if more scientists in the Mass Effect universe played 'God' and tried to create new life forms.

I don't know about Ash but i recall Miranda being infertile, also I said most LIs not all. Also I highly doubt that while Cerberus was remaking Shepard they bothered to make them be able to reproduce with normally incompatible species seems a touch silly imo.

The idea of playing something other than human though I'm all for 100%.

Not really. If people don;t want to play the trilogy I don't see why they should be at a disadvantage, that just discourages new players which leads to the death of the series. So all in all I don't think this idea would be all that good for the series.

It wouldn't matter. It's Miranda who has the fertility problem. She cannot have children, no matter how virile Shepard is.

Sadly true, I would love in hopefully a future ME game to play something other than human though part of me would be worried that they would restrict some of the species to certain genders like, wanna play Krogan, well you have to play as a male too then.

Fingers crossed for being able to play as something other than a human for the next game though.

But wait...What if it was a Cerberus plot. Since Cerberus does so many nasty experiments in the game, maybe they figured out a way to produce and stimulate alien genes in Shepard, thinking his offspring would be valuable to Galactic Protection, thus making Shepard able to reproduce with aliens... AWESOME PLOT TWIST ACHIEVED!

We don't even know if Shep's fertile after Lazarus, either.

Shepard's story is over, MEA will likely have at most a codex entry and some dialogue in the very early game that references Shepard and the then ongoing war with the reapers. I'm sure the Andromedan humans won't know how Shepard's story ends (and probably don't care) so having his descendant isn't terribly likely.

MEA is a brand new story, which is 100% good, because ME3's ending was pretty awful and there is no reasonable way for Bioware to climb out of that hole, other than running away and start digging somewhere else.

Sorry, I think it's an absolutely terrible idea. Leaving aside all the unwanted lore aspects that would be involved in inter-species babies, if you go to all the effort of making different playable species possible, you don't want to lock it up. You want to give everyone the opportunity to play them.

While I like your enthusiasm this is why people should never listen to their fans.  I get the appeal of playing the "descendent of Shepard"  But at the end of the day it is a horrible idea.
