Specifically the 50% barrier? You gain barrier when you detonate? Or it increases the magnitude of barrier already on you?
How does Transmute Magic upgrade for Dispel work?

As long as you dispel something you get barrier generation but up to 50% total with that upgrade. If you have extra skill points and not enough place in your 8 ability slots for both it could be good late game for instance to replace barrier on the ability bar with dispel (upgraded) . This is probably enough if you have guardian spirit and or running arcane warrior.

Transmute Magic (Upgrade)
- When triggered, the following effects are applied:
- Applies barrier on the caster at 50% strength.
- Applies a flat +25% to damage_multiplier on all attacks by the caster for 10 seconds.
- [Bug? - Patch 5] Does not trigger when dispelling status effects on party members/allies or when detonating combos. Only seems to trigger when dispelling enemy barriers.
