There is tremendous amount of vitriol on this forum about the leaderboard. I am not sure where this comes from, the leaderboarders I see posting here are typically down to earth and don't take it too seriously, most of them don't even post here and some being even embarrassed that they are on the leaderboard. We all know the obvious exception, but that is one person. Regardless of the data the leaderboard projects (prestige is challenges and promotions, i.e. time spent) or the fact that there can be more diverse and informative leaderboard, why all the toxic vitriol?

The "vitriol" is down to people actually caring about the leaderboard. It's hilarious.

This - some people are too competitive, its a co-op game after all...

Agreed people go overboard. It is a co-op game and people don't seem to get that, I see that, but still don't you think everyone is overreacting?

This is the BSN, without drama it would be just another message board.

That being said, I doubt I could care less about the leaderboard if I tried actively.

To answer question,

There were several horses in the race. From the top of the leaderboard on down. Right now people who can't stay competitive since they are unwilling to play in generated ExP lobbies are leaving. When you put 6+ months into something there really is no other way of dealing with the issue other than to leave, or join in the fray. People are getting 90+ promotions a week and passing those that ground it out. So....

Honestly it seems many of those who pumped out high promotions were using the glitch\, but that said whatever your promotions are will allow you to play the game at that strength. So competitive you mean the leadership position and those who care about it I assume.

This is a bit like getting jealous of rich successful people because they were unwilling to suckup/cheat/screw people over to get there.

The worst you can do to yourself is envy them while disregarding all context

Fair enough, some people play for trophies, some people play for weapons, some people play for promotions so that's no different from playing for Leaderboard.

The point is, there is an exploit that is ruining experiences for people in the community and it should be dealt with accordingly.

I don't care for the Leaderboard but I do care about fair play and playing the game how it is intended to be played.

HOWEVER... If you achieved leaderboard status by leaving the game in Zone 5 and coming back in with a low level character, then you have no right for you placement in in the LB.

I agree with this. I play Damp because of the friends I met on here or I would had left a long time ago. My friends make it fun.

I believe that BW/EA posted the new warnings in ToS you have to except to get into the MP I saw this when I got on this morning. I assume this sets them up for whatever actions in case people continue with this glitch and or abuse it?

Sure, those who care about it. It was interesting watching a lot of different strategies and tactics at work and seeing who would get out ahead. People who glitch do neither, so the interest in watching the cheater board forge ahead means little.

Furthermore, why should someone who played from the start to get the stats required for HB mode be happy about those that can now do it in 3 weeks. To say this is redemption for the key glitch and dash boarding, etc... Well we were all there in the same boat.

I don't chime in here often, but I do think that some of the people who have voiced that they care about the integrity of the leaderboard are getting a bad rap from BSNers.  As an impartial forum lurker it does appear to me that there is an unwarranted (with an obvious exception) amount of hate being directed at leaderboard folks lately.

You can put me in the crowd that doesn't understand in the slightest why people care about it in the first place, but they obviously do so I'm not one to judge because of that.  BioWare obviously solicited their fervor by the inclusion of the leaderboard at all so why deride those who want to discuss what sound to be legitimate issues impacting it?  If the drive to climb the rankings makes the game fun to some then more power to them.

why all the toxic vitriol?

It's the anonymous nature of the internet. I'm pretty certain people don't treat others in real life like they do here, otherwise they would not be able to play due to spending time in hospital.

and some being even embarrassed that they are on the leaderboard

I would be one of those.

I am on there because I play a lot , not because I know what I am doing.  I also think it's because not as many people are playing anymore.  I have to laugh when the LB "says" I am number 51.....in the world for PS4.....I play with much better players, who have higher stats, and are 200-300 points below me because they don't do the challenges.

It is just an indication of time spent playing the game and nothing more.

So I would suggest either have an entire global cross-format leaderboard with more categories XP per day, levels earned, challenges completed etc.

OR do away with it completely.

I see that in PS3 players, some have higher prestige because they have done all the challenges and some are lower but have more promotions so are stronger. It is what each choose to do, the challenges are there as well as promotions. My feeling to this falls on do what brings you enjoyment since this is entertainment.

Silversmurf,
There is definitely an issue with the 50 ExP challenges. Some people climbed pretty high back in January, February. *Most* of those people are long gone from the game and the leaderboards since they were maxing out the game and no new material was forthcoming.

From ME3 one thing you learn is that a lot of good players who were used to scoring big, leading game scores and such would often guffaw at the people bothering about scores.  However if all of a sudden they found themselves down the board in a game their effort level would rise dramatically.

The game has a scoreboard.

The game has objectives.

Since it has these things it should be fair for everyone, both people who can't care less about a single point or those that really want to be on the scoreboard or complete objectives.  Having scoreboards and objectives is the only thing that keep a good number of people actually playing a repetitive game like this.

People have every right in the world to be totally pissed about exploits that allow short cuts.  The exploits should not be there in the 1st place.  If they do pop up they should be fixed asap.

That is their issue. Why should people who are not active stay on it? It is BW decision to move things along with simple challenges then so be it. If your active then fine if not then don't complain.

agreed but I really don't want to diverge into the exploits rather why people feel so strong about this issue. I don't believe there was any chest thumping by the leaderboarders other the "God being born". Some people care about the leaderboard some people care just about their strength in the harder difficulties so are more into promotions, some want to play casually but want to be challenged and some just want to play casually and couldn't be bothered by challenges. I am trying to have a discussion whether their is any merit to leaderboard bashing other than people wanting to tell others how to enjoy a video game.
