I am trying to have a discussion whether their is any merit to leaderboard bashing other than people wanting to tell others how to enjoy a video game.

I will play devil's advocate for a moment and suggest that some people may be concerned that any time the developers spend chasing down the bug that allows the exploit which only negatively impacts leaderboard chasers is time taken away from issues which they personally find to be important.  BioWare obviously has finite resources so who knows what programmers or testers would have been doing if they were not tracking down this particular bug?

I find that argument spurious but I think it is likely at play here.  Also of course you have all the usual internet trolling reasons.

agreed but I really don't want to diverge into the exploits rather why people feel so strong about this issue. I don't believe there was any chest thumping by the leaderboarders other the "God being born". Some people care about the leaderboard some people care just about their strength in the harder difficulties so are more into promotions, some want to play casually but want to be challenged and some just want to play casually and couldn't be bothered by challenges. No, there is no merit in leader board bashing.

It's not about the leader boards anyway. Some people want to state their own opinion to the extent that they are right and others are wrong. It's easy to flame and point out other peoples shortcomings, and many lack the maturity to see it for what it is - trivial, unimportant and ultimately destructive.

On the other hand, it is damned fine entertainment at times.

There's no merit at all in bashing what others find value in.    Nor is there much point.  If someone finds comfort in prayer, who am I to tell them it's valueless?  This is pretty much the same thing.  People play for different reasons.  I like the achievements.  I was delighted when I got the movie night achievement from NetFlix -- silly, sure, and ridiculous too but that's pretty much why I love it.  Hey, look, Netflix has achievements now!

This whole bug issue seems to be very problematic with the whole who is clean and reminds me of the whole steroid issue in sports. However no one should take this that seriously and remember that healthy competition is cool but this game isn't really designed around a PvP so in the Co-Op environment we should chill out.

As for the trolling, it seems too rampant for no reason in this forum

There's no problem finding value in it, but if you come to a public forum QQing about it, threatening to rage quit the game, you better believe I'll ridicule you for it.

You are, of course, free to ridicule anything you like.  I just feel it's pointless.  Unless . . . are you getting enjoyment from it?  Does ridiculing others make you feel good?  If so, godspeed and all that.

You won't have the opportunity to ridicule me for threatening to rage quit.  But don't fret;  I'll give you far better things to ridicule than that, I assure you.

This is a bit like getting jealous of rich successful people because they were unwilling to suckup/cheat/screw people over to get there.

The worst you can do to yourself is envy them while disregarding all context

Close, but no.

It would be like two people being rich and doing the same job. However, one person finds and illegal exploit to skyrocket their earnings. You being an honest person don't want to participate in this exploit either willingly or not. You are only angry because you know of the exploit, had you not known you'd try to emulate the things that person is doing right to try and keep up all the while doubting their result if you could not accomplish at the same level.

because of this I want three free Hakkon weapons of my choice; it's not that serious lmao.

I come to bsn to laugh.

That's the cat vortex paradigm.

We all know a cat ALWAYS land on their legs if they fall so what happen when you have 2 cats bound to each other by their spine?

Answer: The first cat will try to land on its leg, but the second will try to counter balance it to land on its legs instead. That reaction will cause them to spin infinitely creating a vortex that could very well rip time itself apart...

It's also been reported a cat with a peanut butter toast on his back could also ignite the chain reaction...

Infinite loops are dangerous, pray it never gets to this!
