I would think people with a lot of people on friends list would also have had the glitch effect them. Leaderboard shows who has what so it is easier to which of your neighbors do the exploit and who doesn't. Also I have friends who are actively disagreeing with each over the use of the glitch.
Yes this is the same with me as well. I have around 30 or more super active DAMP players on my friends list and there are some who use the xp glitch, and others who refuse to use it. It has also become apparent that the players not on the leaderboard make up the bulk of the group using the glitch, but I agree the leaderboard is the easiest place to see the players who are using it.
I'm not a saint, and I did find myself in an 2x lobby once super early when we thought it was some random event and not something anyone could recreate. I was only in the lobby for a few games and I did not initially think much of it. I have a feeling there are a lot of people like me, who had a similar experience and I would gladly give up any xp earned in this manner if it would fix the issue and stabilize the DAMP community again. Yumi mentioned that everyone would do the 2x lobbies if there were no leaderboard, but I still feel there are lines that most people don't want to cross. I don't auto cancel, I don't stealth auto crit, I don't Virt infinite mana, I have not used any character glitches other than maybe trying something out of sheer curiosity once. I can't say I'm more honest than others because while I don't like to do things that I feel are cheating, a big reason why I don't do these things is because I don't enjoy the mechanics behind it.
One of the most fun times I have had with DAMP was during the double xp weekend, for the enjoyment of Revenants everywhere, the random spawns, and because I really felt rewarded for grinding with the extra experience. Double xp is intoxicating in a way, and the community is a little starved for more content at the moment. Nightmare difficulty is great, the new loot was very welcome, and having a reason to farm Dragons again was nice. However, no new enemies, no new maps, no new characters, and few able to compete in heartbreaker make for players looking for anything to spice up the grind. Then you have the smaller group of players who actually put in way more hours into this game than most ever will, and some of them see players who are now passing them up in promotions due to the glitch, and it's like a slap in the face.
Sure this is just a game, and someone else using the glitch should not affect your own enjoyment, but it can and it does for a lot of people. Wither your on the leaderboard or not has little to do with it as I have spoken with several people not on the boards, and the ones not using the glitch are just as upset for the most part as anyone in the top 100 because they too value the time it took to get where they are at. The leaderboard gets a bad rap most of the time because usually a lot of the players on the boards are some of the most vocal on the forums, as they have invested the most in this game.
I know a lot of people are on BioWare's case now too, and I admit that they could have handled things better, both from a communication standpoint and from gameplay/fix standpoint. However, they have addressed the issue in their own way, and eventually the problem will be resolved. I think some extra clarification would have been nice, but I also feel there is enough information to establish a guideline until the issue is resolved. The key in prior posts comes down to the word "Abuse" for me. So what is abuse?
We know the glitch can be player created. This is abuse in my opinion
Actively looking to join a glitch lobby. This is abuse in my opinion
Staying in a glitched lobby for an excessive amount of time. This is abuse in my opinion
Pressuring others to glitch or stay as lobby leader in order to keep the glitch. This is abuse in my opinion
I do not feel it is abuse if you randomly end up in a glitched lobby.
I do not feel staying in said lobby for a few games is abuse either.
However, what constitutes excessive is the grey area and I am not sure where you draw the line. All this being said I wish no one would use these lobbies, just as I wish I had never had my limited experience with it. I don't want a bunch of people banned, as I don't think that really helps anyone, but I don't know if the Dev's can just figure out the erroneous xp players earned and vaporize it, but I'd like that outcome better. Still my gut tells me little to no action will be taken, and as a community we just need to suck it up and focus on ourselves. Hopefully friendships are not ruined over this, but some probably will be or have been. I think the Dev's really do not want players "Abusing" this glitch, and maybe that means some discipline will occur, but more players will either leave or start glitching the longer this problem exists and it will continue to divide a community that up until a couple weeks ago was mostly on the same page and one of the better gaming communities I have ever been a part of.
This post is not meant to judge the character of individuals who participate in the 2x lobbies, but it is meant to bring some clarity to your actions. In Golf I respect that players will typically call out their own mistakes even if it costs them a tournament, and that is with their lively-hood on the line. There are a lot of cool people that play DAMP or post on this forum, and it would be a shame if this issue causes the game to suffer as I really want to keep playing DAMP for a lot longer with the same fun community that has kept me interested for over 1,200hrs as that is super rare for me with most games.
