Unless someone has a familiar avatar. Like DeathScepter sounds like Martin Sheen.
So if I were still using my Fierce Deity Link avie, would you hear nothing but angry shouts and gasps?

This. Even the BSNers I've heard the voices of like Gravisanimi, TheClonesLegacy, EarthboundN, Ducksoup, etc etc I don't associate voices to. Not if I'm reading a post they made anyway.
But if they post something that is so absolutely "them", then I might go out of my way to "hear" it in their voice.

Back when everyone had to use the avatar/profile icons that Bioware provided for us, I would read everybody's comments in the voice of their profile pic. So like if you had Garrus or Tali as your pic then I would read your post in their voice. It was rather amusing. I can't do that as much as I used to though, sadly.

Heh. My voice is neither that British, nor that refined. Maybe more like a deeper Michael Cera. I'm not sure I can think of another example.
But please, by all means - keep me as Stephen Fry! Better than the boring truth.

This is what I do, and if I don't recognize the avatar then they just get my normal voice.
Which my normal voice is pretty epic in itself, anyway.
