I'd rather not. 'Grizzled veteran warstory dude with pragmaticism bordering on amorality' is enjoyable and all, but it's also an achetype that's been a crutch for Bioware. I'd rather something new- or at least less used.
If we were to get 'the veteran' achetype, I'd appreciate it if we could get a female tought-girl: someone like Sergeant Calhoun from Wreck-it-Ralph. Tough as nails, more balls than a Krogan, and having a sweet side analogous to sand-paper.

I wouldn't mind a character like Zaeed. He was one of my favorite characters. RIP Robin Sachs
<<<<<<<<<<()>>>>>>>>>>
Unfortunately, outside his personal quest, his dialogue lines were few.
I don't mind a female Zaeed type. It would allow Bio to develop the character from a different angle and hopefully take the opportunity to create another "Garrus" but female. Maybe the alien love interest can be one?

And possibly an LI that can help disturb the neighbors/companions.

I thought he was appropriate for ME2... I don't know even know the story for Andromeda. To me, it kind of illustrated what it took to survive on your own as a lone human in the Terminus. Jack is somewhat the same, but with additional issues. They're hardcore survivors, who lost trust/reliance on others. Maybe we don't need the same here.

I'm on a sick leave because I hurt my back pretty bad and I'm still laughing, so I can relate to that. Ouch....

Isn't the point of creating a character one that's memorable? Regardless of like or dislike? The writer did a good job if we remember and talk about them.
Let's say we have an obnoxious team mate that is excellent at the job. A top squad member that is key to many a combat situation. Unfortunately, off combat the character is a no nonsense tell-it-it-as-it-is jarring pain-in-the-butt conversationalist, that rubs you the wrong way. Probably critiques everyone's combat performance and useless grinding and/or exploration. Perhaps even a line or two about lazy programmers or artistic directors (DAI)..hehe.
Now this one would be memorable if developed properly.,,, if necessary, make it an alien or for us straight guys, a honey, athletic physique, busty, a Miranda ass and we can't get her in bed, 'cause she's a lesbian. Add side conversations about her vitality and energy in doing what men and women do best..would be a bonus, especially in the Tempest (ship).
Just saying.

I'd like it if they avoided the "[fill in the blank] like character" thing. I don't want to see notZaeed or notTali or notGarrus. I want to see bring different types of characters into the setting. Personally, I loved Samara because she was really unlike any other Bioware character that I can think of (outside of maybe Sten). I want to see them stretch themselves instead of just giving us more of what they've already given us, just reskinned and with a new voice actor.

One thing Bioware could use is not a Zaeed necessarily, but a romance similar to that. I know ShotgunJulia talked about him often. Someone who isn't that young, or a Joss Whedon character, or an alien. Just some older badass. Could've done that in Kotor too. Canderous vs Carth/Juhani.

But seriously I'd dig a companion like Calhoun. Less whining more bug killing.

I never got the appeal of Zaeed. Beyond his DLC, I never used him; he stayed in his hole for the rest of the game. For me, he was a walking cliche of the guy that sounds tough and morally gray.

Zaeed Massani is the Canderous Ordo of Star Wars.
I always thought that too. The insignia on his shoulder even resembled the Mando skull a little bit.
